The problem starts at top. Mr Khan thinks just owning a sports team is enough he doesn’t want to put the work in and doesn’t want to hire the right guys. I remember when he took over the Jags 5 years ago, he almost beat Tommy boy to go to the Super Bowl and it’s been downhill ever since. This is how he runs sports teams. He hires shmos and shlubs on the cheap. Who’s doing our recruiting? Who’s identifying our new players? Getting scraps from the French leagues or retreads from the championship? You know who I admire? Dortmund, Atalanta and Leipzig. These teams scour the lower leagues for gems, 20 something’s full of piss and vinegar. These are talented fit guys that wanna show their mettle and hope they are sold on to a big club. These are the kind of guys we should be looking for. Scour the Brazilian or Portuguese 3rd division for some real talent that no one has identified , don’t buy slow ponderous guys that have been passed over by all and sundry. We want young studs that wamna come and play in the premiership, these kind of guys will blow past the palaces and Burnleys straight into 10 place. Instead our director of football is a guy that knows nothing about football. We are a plaything. We should have gotten that guy that just left Arsenal. The problem starts at the top.
Sorry to be rude but what a load of rubbish! We just got promoted (twice under the current ownership), we played two games won one and lost one, against the probably the form team in the premier league. We have another 37games. The guy at the top, as far as I am aware, is still busy trying to buy players, including one of the best defenders in Europe. Meanwhile, the guy at the top just finished rebuilding the training ground and brought it to a level I believe as good as any teams outside the top 6, and before that project was finished, the owners are rebuilding the riverside stand. So if you think this is a problem from the top, think about Wigan, Macclesfield, Derby and many more!

Don't confuse real estate development with recruitment and team building. As I keep saying, there is no evidence of a strategic plan, unless it's to become a permanent yo-yo team.

Supporters like Vin, really annoy me, and all they do is moan, moan, moan, and they like him, should be really grateful, like most of us, that we have owners that have backed Scott and the team to the hilt, and because of that we have made a one season return to the Premier League, which is an achievement in itself. In my opinion we are very lucky to have the Khans as our owners, who will do their utmost to make sure that we stay up this season, and push on again in the following seasons. Get behind them Vin, and try to enjoy, what should be a better season than you expect.

Not moaning, I accept our place in the football world. I’m just pointing out that without the RIGHT people doing the right job we are going to be up and down up and down. I didn’t even delve into our other problems. Am I wrong? There is no strategic plan in place and no one to over see this plan Buy team. Hire some guys. End of. We could be a successful club but the big cheese doesn’t care. It’s a business. Haha so sensitive you lot. Perhaps you are used to accepting failure but I like something to strive for.

Fans like me? I’ve been eating copious amounts of s**t since the Khans arrived so don’t question my loyalty. As a fan is it not my right to voice my opinion about the shortcomings of the club I support? He renovated a stand, he’s after top defender in Europe, get your tongue out and look at the big picture. How not to run a club. The FFC story. You may want to get tested for... I dunno something. Your deluded. Another thing we don’t do is coach up our players. Make them better. Like Pep did with Sterling.

You all have valid points, our owner who knows nothing about football has backed our club with funds because that is all he can do. However, the financial support needs to be better serviced by the staff he employs. As we all know throwing money at something does not guarantee results. We have a good owner who just needs to improve on understanding what is required to keep an inexperienced team in the PL ....yes two promotions but also two relegations.

Like my father used to say to me “you don’t have to be a professional but you can always hire one”. If he spends a little more he can hire the right people. The question is will he? Haha like f**k. Look at his record in the NFL.

You call yourself a Fulham supporter and it's great that people in other countries "follow" Fulham but I wonder, are you an ex-pat who, in earlier years went to games and supported the club or just someone who watches from a distance?

I and many others can tell you that if you are a Fulham "supporter", this century has seen the "great years" for our club and NOTHING" anything like what we have enjoyed relatively recently has preceeded these 20 years in the previous 120 years. Some of us remember a certain Mr Clay and the genuine possibility of Fulham Park Rangers.

Yes be ambitious but to call out the Khans in the way you have is disrespectful to them and our club and shows a lack of knowledge and understanding of where this club came from and what it stands for!

We are a family club and the best three owners of FFC in my opinion have been families (Khans, Al Fayeds, Muddymans) and I for one am thankful for that and enjoy the ride - with the odd moan about how we play or who we buy from time to time but then look forwad to the next game. I have a love for Fulham wherever we are in our history and am relieved that since the mid 80's our journey has been a rollercoaster ride rather than an elevator to hell like the clubs mentione above.

Jast saying...

Hear hear MST. If I'm honest i like that we are not up there with the super rich Man City's and Chelskis. I like that we are still that nice football club down by the Thames. The 13 years in the EPL were great and a solid stay mid table would do me nicely. Vin gives himself away with his "young studs that wanna come and play in the premiership" Don't know about you but I prefer football to rugby at The Cottage every day.

Reading a number of different reports it does seem we are finding it difficult to get top players to the club and there are obvious reasons for this notwithstanding having a rookie coach at this level ...seems we will only get third choice signings and seems like we are going back for Kongolo who is certainly not the calibre of Tah. It could be the make or break of our season whether we can get decent signings done in the next couple of weeks.
Plus ça change. We are Fulham

You do seem to have a problem with your recruitment identifying talent seems to be down to no mark Talbot who appears clueless, then to be handed over to the apprentice coach Parker,no wonder you are no hopers, and cant sign anyone worthwhile apart from the mercenaries. By the way Leeds will give you one hell of a spanking next game up, one of many this season.

Thankfully it looks like we have started to be linked with CBs! Currently we are being linked with Toisin Adarabioyo, Terrence Kongolo, and Jonathon Tah. In my mind there is only one of these who may be PL quality and that's Tah. However, I am wondering if I am being overly harsh, Adarabioyo is a great prospect and was quality for Blackburn and Kongolo has PL experience. What are people's opinion? Am I being too harsh? Ideally I would like Tah & Adarabioyo...
I repeat. We should buy 2 central midfielders. We'll be lucky to get either one of these. Excluding Tan, I'm seeing the same comments we had before we bought Mawson.

I think all three would be good enough, but agree that Fulham should get two central defenders. Kongolo would be a goos fit, he has prem experience and is familiar with the team. I think Tah will be too expensive so go for the youngster instead.

1 - Nil win against Ispwich is a welcome boost to our confidence but I would expected more against a League 1 side! Where are our goals coming from if not Mitrovic? Same problem seems to be that again this season midfield and defence will be otherwise occupied, which other teams mf and def will not be. The reports that we will sign permanently Mr Terence Kongolo cannot be true, has Fulham FC not learnt anything about signing players who are injured or injury prone? Especially after the debacle with Mr Alfie Mawson, currently on loan at Bristol City. We need two more Defenders with Premiership experience. Fast.
Get your point but always upsets in early stakes of this cup Leeds lost to Hull Southampton to Brentfrod . Well done boys COYW

If Knockhead could learn to shoot on target on a regular basis he would be on the team sheet every game. If half of the good chances he had in the game were on target we would have won handsomely. The other thing is the two wing backs fired lots of very good crosses that players in the box should have been alert and are probably not used to. Our new players give us a lot more attacking opportunities and Parker will have to change his tactics to suit. He is a good manager and will recognise this will make us a far more dangerous attacking team.

I am not saying we should play all out attack like Leeds but if one of our new wingbacks is running down the the wing we should assume it will be crossed so our three frontmen plus Onomah must spread themselves around the box in planned positions. We will create a lot more chances that way.

Prolonged stays in the top division allows you to spend big on players which helps. Also we’re becoming a yo yo club ..... hard to attract the right type of players who don’t want to be involved in a relegation battle. We’re 3 or 4 players short at the moment .....but I don’t trust Tony to know what or who we need to stay up unfortunately.

I appreciate the fact that Sess is no longer with us, but he was very popular whist wearing our shirt, and it now looks as if Gareth Bale will be joining Spurs If so his chances of first team football have deminished even further. Wonder if those in power have considered making a move for him, would we welcome his return?
Personally, I never rated him that highly as people on this board will, no doubt, remember. In addition we have better players in the squad in any case....

Do more older people in the North go drinking in pubs than southerners? That seems to be the main reason most of these Covid 19 hot spots are in the North. Northerners obviously do not drink them self stupid at home like Southerners
not from what ive seen plenty of people of all ages but recently a load of 20 =40 somethings boozing till late in and around london pubs/bars not much social distancing, but from what ive seen in London at least, decent use made of outside space

Hate to say it but there are more Asian communities in the midlands and north of England and they tend to gather in larger family groups. The increased infectioin rate is being passed on within family groups and we also know that the BAME community are more susceptical to infection that white anglo-saxons. Fact not conjecture for those who see this as a racist comment.

In addition and to answer your question about drinking in pubs, the further you go from the south coast and past London, the more working class communities increase and there are far more traditional pubs in the north than the wine bar south. Add to that, that in the north people tend to spend more time in pubs when the are there rather than the after work sneaky one before home or the late night binge drinking after getting tanked and drugged up at home we see in the south.

Again, facts - look it up ;0)

Furthermore and just as a point of interest (nothing else), I was in Manchester on tues, weds and Thurs last week for business. When entering Yates in the Gay Village (that's what it's called) a group of four of us from separate households had to sit on separate tables and I doubt there were more than 10 people in the whole place and this is whilst the England game was on. Drinks were ordered at the bar behind a screen and they were brought to us and we had to take them off the tray ourserlves (no, I didn't get that either).

Later on we went to a Weatherspoons just up the road and although you had to order drinks via their app and have them brought to you, it was rammed! No different to a Saturday night. Everywhere else the pubs and wine bars closed at 10pm. Needless to say, we did not risk it and went back to our hotel for a quiet after hours in the lounge.

I do not understand why in situations where you have to wear as mask a lot of the serving staff do not, particularly shelf fillers. The biggest bee in my bowler is the fact you cannot eat and drink wearing a mask seems to give customers of eating and drinking establishments an excuse not to wear a mask. You should of course wear a mask except when you are eating or drinking. These retail outlets are high risk covid areas because this blatant non compliance.

you post alot but you'd have your answers if you actually followed the news better. parkers post match interview revealed why seri wasn't playing. Although I wouldn't be taken in and believe 100% what Parker says in interviews... so its obviously half us trying to sell Seri/him not wanting to be here and half some truth in Seri only training as of yesterday after quarantine. Why was he so late back to Fulham? must in part be because he and us thought he'd be off by now.

As far as his late in returning I suspect the Turkish club he placed for on loan(I cannot spell Galatasaray) Wanted to buy him for a much reduced price from the loan agreed price. This negotiation was probably extensive as his book value has more than halved in a season.

With no fans income for FFC will be well down. So we buy few players. Maybe we go down - but does that matter. Even with signings we can’t compete at this level. Next season will ticket sales be down when we will all want to see the boys - I doubt it even with relegation. So financially does this season and relegation matter. Most probably not so why spend big and take on debt.
Daftest comment made on this board for a long time ......of course relegation matters greatly .....£150m plus for a start. TV money will become even more important. But even more important we have to stay in the PL to build a team that can become established in the top level ....each season is a building block and it takes at least three seasons to get to that level providing we are making the right signings. And relegation ......impacts adversely on the whole club and no guarantee of a promotion again anytime soon. Staying in the PL is everything .....especially in these current times and with a new stadium to look forward to. Come on Phil surely you are winding us all up?

With the best will in the world, even Khan couldn’t engineer our promotion to the Premiership this season. Yes, the timing was fortuitous, but we would all have to agree that our promotion was more to do with Brentford throwing it away during the run in than Khan’s ‘brilliant’ decision making. As for the rest of your point, of course it’s better to stay up, rather than be relegated immediately, but you are still correct that, even if we are relegated, which I am pretty certain we will, the club’s finances will have been boosted enormously at this critical time
posted by Rm (Guest) - Thursday 17th September 2020, 8:54 AM
Sorry RM but I can't agree that we were promoted to the Premier League because Brentford threw it away.

Yes they threw two games they should have won but that would have had them promoted automatically and whose to say we would not have beaten WBA at Wembley.

Fulham were promoted on merit, we got into the play-off spots, we beat Cardiff on aggregate, we turned up at Wembley with the correct tactics and we scored more goals than them.

Credit where credit is due sir - please ;0))

Khan is a very clever businessman the perfect example of the American Dream. Running a Football team should be a breeze for him. Despite all this winging on this site every time everything is not perfect I think we are a well run club. For example other Clubs have tried unsuccessfully the separation of buying and selling players and coaching functions. After teething problems the system works very well in my view. Think of how many useless players we use to get under the old system. Even in our relegation season we had a decent squad but we had two managers who did not know how manage them in the PL.

Come on guys; Southampton lost at home to Brentford, Leeds lost to Hull, Villa had an early scare at Burton. These early cup games are training games to get some fitness into legs and lungs and not much else.

Our team was a hotch potch of new and old players who had never played together before and we avoided a potential banana skin. Take some positives that we saw two bright wing backs that improve the squad and a midfield pairing in Anguissa and Lemina that is definitely a step up as well.

We also confirmed what we knew that we have a lot of players who just do not make the grade and will be lucky to make the bench. Our first choice team, although not seen yet together, is starting to take shape in my head and once ratified and given half a dozen games without tinkering, we might just get a few unexpected results.

Enjoy the ride ;0)

Last night was effectively a training game for the new signings plus the player who have not played so far and the one who want to play every game. These games against lower level opposition are never easy but our thrown together team controlled the game impressively. The two wing back were very good and the two in central midfield were dominant. Difficult to judge the keeper as he hardly had anything to do. I found that very encouraging as most of the new players when they are fully fit look like an upgrade on what we have. I can also see why we kept rather than sold Anguissa, he is a top player, legendary potential.

Couldn’t agree more that we need to give Fulham and Parker a bit of credit. We constantly comparing ourselves with the big boys and top 6-10 team. We don’t have a squad that can do that. We have a reasonable and hopefully improving squad. Our competition is not Arsenal or even Wolves but the likes of Brighton, Burnley, Leeds, West Brom, West Ham and Villa. Until we play them, we have no idea how competitive this squad can be. We don’t gave pacy players so we must keep our big guys. Anguissa, Mitro and if we can get Tah (long short), I think we will be ok.

After the return of lockdown last season I was shocked at the weight gain from Mitro and my self thinking with all the Zooms thats been popular during the time. Why wasn't the club checking up on the players fitness like treadmills rowing machines and updating your weight everyday as well as that they living in bigger pads than we are. I know all teams were in uncharted territory but Fulham were sloppy and it showed the first 4 or 5 games. Put Mitro in the Sweatbox and keep him there for a day or 2 and away from the takeaways.

I noticed that offers above £5m usually attract more than FFC. Can't think of one we have succeeded in the face of opposition. So Tah is fancied by Leicester. In his boots, who would you choose? Anyhow it seems he is not Leicester's main CB target so let's compete with them on two fronts. If I was TK (not quite as wealthy) I would buy two CB. Look at best defences of late, examples Leicester City (won EPL), Vertongan plus 1, Steve Bruce + 1, even Hangaland + Hughes. It's so obvious. Our two HHs were probably cheapest but they played the same way and together. And for goodness sake SP, offload some of our league 1/championship crap. You must know the players I mean. Shouldn't even be near the bench. I'll always be a fan, almost 80 years now, but after starting with Jim Taylor, Freeman and Bacuzzi, it's so frustrating. Reading newsnow etc daily is wearing me down.
If we could get Tah would be a great signing. But other big clubs are now interested and our position as relegation favourites isn’t helpful for attracting top players.

Need a striker who can get the ball on target. Too much over playing again - sideways and backwards. Tete looks like a player and can run and Lemina cool on the ball but same old story of too slow and no shows in the box when we eventually get the ball there. Bobby the decorator needs to go - no idea why we made his loan permanent as he just does not know where the goal is. Should have won this game by three or four. Leeds will be tough on this showing.

Antonee Robinson was the stand out player in my view. He did well at left back and got in plenty of crosses. Mitro scored with a header from Tete's cross from the right. Joe Bryan came os sub second half and played right back.Zambo played well. as did Kebano and Marchand didn't put a foot wrong in defence with Lemina. The new keeper didn't have much to do, but coped well. The main problem was as last week, crosses coming in and nobody there to get on them. It will be very interesting to see who stars on saturday.

Zambo and Marchand played well. Hmm' that is interesting!!! To tell you the truth, if we get the big guy Tah in, and another forward, life would be so much easier for Fulham in the prem. It is up to Parker now and it will be interesting if he will fight for a center-half. What is the problem with getting in another forward? Bobby Reid is too light-weight and he can't shoot straight. Knockheart is tricky with no end product, no goals there. The honest truth is, we are desparate for a forward with experience and no-how, and even the likes of Le Sulk Balotelli can give us 15 goals plus. I know i will get abuse for saying this, but we are useless at picking em at the moment. Too many wingy type of players have signed for Fulham on decent contracts but goals they can't produce. GET SOMEONE IN THERE TO DISTRACT FROM THE HEAVILY MARKED MITROVIC PLEASE!!!!!! ANYBODY BUT ANOTHER WINGER!!!!!

There seems to be some who are getting carried away with this win,we fielded what could be the nucleus of this seasons 1st team,.Ipswitch are a team playing in league 1 and today according to reports fielded 6 none first team regulars.let us see how we get on in the next 4 league games.

Not a good sign to only score one goal against a League One team. In baseball, there is a term called the "Four-A" player. It describes players who excel in the top developmental league (AAA), but who aren't good enough for the major leagues. Fulham has an abundance of 4-A players: Bobby Reid, Cav, Knockaert, Neeskens, Abou, TC, Ream, Odoi. The good news is, if we are relegated, we should be top 6 again. The bad news is, instead of buying 9 true Premier League players, we bought 18 4-A players. Playing 46 matches, that depth matters. At this level, it doesn't. A high-quality XI is what you need.

Good analogy Drago. Spot on. I live in North America so I understand you. I cannot remember ever having a premiership player since Micheal Jackson left. Mitro is cutting it close. Who else? Sess? Where’s he? Thing is mate... come closer, nobody of any real quality wants to play here. We are like Tottenham-lite, never win anything and I mean NEVER. Tiny stadium. No zang, no panache, no sexiness. We are the ugly fat chick on the see-saw no one wants to play with.
posted by Vin (Guest) - Thursday 17th September 2020, 1:01 AM
Both the above posts are reasoned analyses and spot on, but we are where we are. We used to grow our own players, and still do through the academy, but they don't get a chance of making the first team before they're sold off or leave on a free transfer. The problem is the lack of strategic direction at the top and I can't see that changing for as long as Khan junior holds all the management strings. Still, look on the bright side; even fat chicks can slim down. If you're in AZ Vin I'll buy you a beer.

Vin what’s all this ‘fat chick on the see saw,‘ nonsense - pretty ugly terms of reference. Small ground: The Cottage is the ground that every away fan loves to visit-it’s a gem. You should visit it sometime As for the players: most of the bottom 10 sides do not have a team full of AAA, especially those who have been recently promoted in the last few seasons. The club is still work in progress. All we have to do this season is stay up. Maybe you are supporting the wrong club-try Manchester City

Who would be up for a well-run but slightly chaotic Zoom meeting where everyone can chip in with comments (a bit like this noticeboard). And what’s the chance Cliff Dean or other characters would get involved?

We honestly have been conservative and careful, so do let's splash out a little bit to compete better with our peers that came up with us. Villa survived relegation by the skin of a ducks nostril and Grealish is 'er' the beneficiary in a world of football which is upside down and nothing makes sense. Those smart men in suits at the Villa have managed to convince Grealish that Villa are 'er' bigger than Birmingham and maybe Villa will make the Champions league? Or words to that effect i imagine. Hats off tho Grealish for signing his lifes blood away to the brummies which will see him nicely stitched up until the age of 30. Is this a loyal gesture from Grealish for Villa sticking up for him when he broke the covid code? Understandably, Grealish has been at Villa since his early teens and there is a loyalty pull at the heartstrings, but there is a but. Did not those wise men with sound advice, advise him to show some ambition and wait a little longer for a major move to bigger and better? Wise men might well include his dad? I remember my teacher at school encouraging me to read my famous five adventure books and to work harder on my maths which made me the man i am today, and a great writer for a famous forum was my reward. Starting lineup 2019 vs 2021 - we have a slightly weaker team in 2021!

Fabri vs Rodak (better player? Rodak - 2021)
Christie vs Odoi (Odoi - 2021)
Chambers vs Hector (Chambers - 2019)
Le Marchand vs Ream (Ream - 2021)
Bryan Vs Bryan (n/a)
Cairney vs Cairney (n/a)
McDonald vs Reed (Macdonald - 2019)
Seri vs Onomah (Seri - 2019)
Schürrle vs Kebano (Schurri - 2019)
Mitrovic vs Kamara (Mitrovic - 2019)
Sessegnon vs Cavaleiro (Sessengnon- 2019)

Subs used:
Vietto vs Anguissa (Anguissa - 2021)
Johansen vs Deco-Reid (Johansen - 2019)
Kamara vs Mitrovic (Mitrovic - 2021)
What use is this post. The team of 2018 lost twelve of the first thirteen games. If the current team don't do better, I might start believing that you know what you are talking about.

I do not think Seri would be better than a cardboard cutout of Josh. A strong wind will blow Seri over. I do not think a season playing in Turkey will have improved him. The PL is far to fast and bruising for him. If Scott can get him to grow 3" and get a some flesh on his bones we might nearly have a decent reserve. Josh is one of the few players in the Fulham squad who looks like a fully fledged PL player, Spurs must be regretting they let him go now.

With Tete here. For me unless we are hit with injuries to Tete and others like Odoi. Ola has I think been brought in to play in Wide midfield/ Atacking Mid. Replacing Stefan and competition to Onomah. People who claim he is here to be a CB or full back should note whilst he can and has played there. His natural position is wide and more attacking. Plus I've read much to suggest 'defending' is a weakness. Although he does seem combative. But is that combative like Stefan. As in willing to put his foot in, but that is not the same as the art of defending that a Defender in the backline requires.
Thing your right be in midfield , can play wing back either side with a back 3. But at moment can’t find 2 good CB
posted by DMK (Guest) - Tuesday 15th September 2020, 11:50 AM
If you read his stats, he doesn't really have a "preferred" position. He has been brought in as a utility player who can play anywhere across the back line or on either wing. Similar to Odoi I guess who let's face it at 31 may be getting on a bit (despite his contract extension that FFC have secured to ensure we get something for him when he moves on).

One season on loan and if he makes the grade we get our player for the future signed for an already agreed fee. Makes perfect sense to me ;0).

Okay so the Carlo Ancelotti effect might have helped source and attract the player I am about to mention. But Allan of Everton. Now that is a SUMMER Signing we lacked? Lemina? well he might be this player, when will Scott put him in? Anguissa not quite the same as Allan, but 'a sort of like' Certainly as much as we like what Reed and TC have done for Fulham Allan or someone of his ilk. Quality, skill etc is what we need playing week in week out.
we potentially have the players at our club... I'd give Reed and TC one or two more games to make an impression this season. We can't wait too long before we as a Club make changes, especially as we do have players here ready to step in and if a player is not 'doing it' sorry but we need to make a change and 'give' next man up the chance to 'do it'
posted by ted (Guest) - Tuesday 15th September 2020, 9:34 AM
Allan is outside our class area atm....we do need to realise that. Reed can do a job for us as a defensive shield but needs two good central midfielders in front of him...not sure TC can do that role in PL. Always believed TC gets lost in central midfield against the best teams.
posted by Joka’s Revenge (Guest) - Tuesday 15th September 2020, 9:47 AM
Reed is not the problem, TC is a luxury in this division. He didn't perform at this level last time around, so why should he improve now? Reed breaks up play and needs a creative MF to use the ball. The problem lies with Tony Khan and what he perceives to be good business against the teams requirement, Cavaliero, Knockaert and Reid proves the point. We shall see which of the new comers will cut the mustard and establish themselves in the Premier League. I feel Areola, Robinson and Tete will be good additions to the squad, not sure about Lemina and Aina. If Zambo's head is in the right place, he too should come good. We all know that a CB along with another forward is essential to have any hope of succeeding this season. Who knows how and if Tony will deal with this.
posted by mwk (Guest) - Tuesday 15th September 2020, 10:14 AM
I think the time has come to jettison Cairney. For three season now he has really looked half the player he was or the game has moved on a lot and he has not caught up. There is really nothing wrong with the manager's tactics but Tom slows the progress of our attacks. Leeds will bombard us with attacking men, if we win the ball or they lose it we must quickly use the space they have left to behind. That is how most teams will beat Leeds, and we must do the same without TC sluggish input.

I think that I have posted before that my company will sponsor Brentford this season. During deliberations, I have had dealings with the owner Matthew Benham and before my first conversation with him I did a little research and thought that the following piece may be of interest to some now the dal is done:

Not dissimilar to what FFC were trying not so long ago and having looked deeper into the project it is quite clear that most successful clubs in Europe use the same or similar format. In the PL I know 100% of Brighton, Liverpool, Man City and Leicester City using exactly the same process for recruiting players.

Makes you think that the Khans had the right idea but the wrong person in charge of the project.....
Thanks for the post MST......there is no rocket science to this approach only that the stats are now far more comprehensive. Stats have been used to recruit, train and set tactics since the 80s. However, the emergence of better technology producing extensive stats has seen this improve with some success over recent years. As you quite correctly allude, stats on their own are little use without a coach/owner/manager having the skills and acumen to deploy them effectively. Getting the balance between stats/football acumen is the real trick and the higher up the ladder you go the harder it gets because everybody in that small pond also has those stats. A stats based approach to all things football will improve and increase but they are only as good as the operators who use them ......Fulham have much more to do in this area especially when moving into that smaller pond.

Obviously assume you are Fulham. So why help a rival no matter how small out? As for Tony. Fulham is one of 3 -4 toys Dads brought for him to keep him busy/happy. We as fans of Fulham have to accept this and play the long game with regards to how that looks for FulhamFC. Me personally speaking of course follow FFC. But (also due to no matchdays/Covid) have started to fill time by following other things as my current exceptions for FFC (at least on the field) are low and frustrating. Thanks for your support Keetchy.

Pete T; I won't bore you with facts about my loyalty to Fulham Football Club as they are not interesting or relevant but you obviously are not too clued up from a business sense as to how sponsorship works.

Do you honestly believe that sponsors just contribute a pocket load of cash to football clubs just to "help them out? In ours and many other cases, cash is a small part of the deal with product making up the lion's share of the contribution.

This is a business transaction for which we get a massive amount of tangible benefits that we can measure against the cost of sponsorship. If it was information in the public domain (which it is not) then I would list the 50+ individual benefits that we will realise from Brentford Football Club which includes a sizeable six figure order for our products.

Your post is a little naive if I may say so ;0)).....

a flippant comment causing waves when ripples would be 'too much'. i didn't read the post but i had been aware prior to our cousins stats approach, even skysports (some or all are on sky's youtube channel) had something about this, much better then the few lines your article would provide info wise. it would be interesting to read what your company are providing as part of your £100,000+ sponsorship I assume it to be parts for the ground. Something a FFC fan should be offering to us instead? Speaking of their ground. I've again been reading about how good it is. But I saw the photos and both externally and internally it resembles IKEA. Hardly PL standard as I read from one (no doubt paid up) media influencer. We know Shad and Fayed before do not do IKEA (luckily), I well Fayed did LEGO for the two END stands but at least the internal deco are plush.

I found Parkers comment about us losing more than we win so I checked last seasons league table. Southampton lost more than they won and finished 11th. Obviously I would bite you hand off it that was offered to me now.
I do think Parker needs to be more positive in his interviews .....not to say he needs to be unrealistic but he needs to use more positive language .....I think he is an all round clumsy communicator and someone at the club should help him improve this important part of his job role
posted by Joka’s Revenge (Guest) - Monday 14th September 2020, 10:14 PM
There is some clever reverse psychology at work here as the player attitude will be we are better than the manager thinks and we must prove it. You will see steely determination from now on and a winning mentality. Parker is much cleverer than most of us realise and chooses his words very carefully.
posted by The Time Is Now - Tuesday 15th September 2020, 8:01 AM
If you think that is clever psychology then you are easily pleased.....it is far too obvious to be clever! A clever communicator is far more subtle.

If Parker really believeS in losing mentality and winning mentality, he’s trying to reset the players expectation that actually it is ok to lose games and that a winning mentality is about getting 40 points not winning more than you lose. He’s priority is the team not dropping their heads!
posted by John (Guest) - Tuesday 15th September 2020, 8:47 AM
The maximum number of points we can gain losing more than we win is 55 points. That would put us in 9th place on the basis of last years table. That is 18 wins, 19 losses and 1 draw.

After only one game, the table already starting to take shape, apart from the odd anomaly like Spurs, it’s already separating the top halve from the bottom. Our premier league competition is already quite clear. West Ham, sheffield United, Brighton, etc.
You can add West Brom to that list, and after we beat them on saturday, Leeds United.

We played Arsenal, and they are a top team. They would have trounced most teams in the mood they are in. Nevertheless, we know our lads can do better, and i think they will up at Leeds. I don't buy the rubbish that Leeds matched Liverpool and that they are leagues ahead of us. Dust our shoulders off, and we go at the Leeds this weekend no problem. There will be one or two changes because needs must etc, but whoever it is who is dropped, i think there will be no grumblings or moans. The game against Leeds will tell us what we need to know in my opinion, and i really feel that we can do them. If i was a brave man, and i admit i am not in these circumstances, i might have played the exact same team up at Leeds. Scott Parker would not dare to do so because the risk would be too great and 2 losses will just mount up to his sacking too soon. There will be a reaction up at Leeds no matter what or how we think. Judge our team after the Leeds result. That is all i can say about our start to this campaign. Our boys will feel the same way, trust me!!!
So we'll know what we need after the Leeds game will we OWEN? Where do you get such claptrap? Most of us (read other posters) thought the writing was on the wall before the end of last season. We know our weaknesses. TK and SP are bringing in players who cannot and will not solve our basic problems. CM and Striker. Sorry but TC will not do either as playmaker or captain. I read that Danny Murphy is saying King is too good for Fulham (and Villa). As an ex captain, he should remember Haynes, Cohen and several others who never left us.

Willie' we have not long played Leeds back in the championship. They beat us last time out, but i don't buy it that they are miles ahead of us in ability. I still say, there will be a good reaction from our players. Leeds are not Arsenal. Bielsa will know how unpredictable Fulham are. It depends on which Fulham turns up in my opinion. Just wait and see. We lose badly, Parker will know for real what our season will pan out like. We have a few additions, lets just give our guys a little bit more time before we write them off...

A few months ago Leeds thrashed us 3-0 when we were on a winning run. They were ahead of us then and probably are still now. We need to defend well and break quickly when their attacks break down. I am not convinced we can do either of those things, but want to be proved wrong as I love Fulham.

That is not correct Onomah play close behind or beside him and the two wingers come into the centre as well. But if the ball is kicked up the middle he will be isolated the reason we do not do that. Playing one up front almost forces you into the passing game.

I standby Parker. he's a not magician and no tactics he can deploy can hold Arsenal, especially with the form that they are in at the moment. Remember they just beaten Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool. I just done a quick calculation, i think the Fulham team started on Saturday cost a total of £41m and on the bench, we had maybe another £60m players. Yes, £41m!! £41m would only get you an one-legged Pepe or the combined annual salary of Arsenal front 3 players! It must be one of the lowest valued team starting a premier league game since Barnsley 20 years ago. So let's give Parker a chance and see how he integrate the new players and Anguissa into the team. By the way, i am not trying to blame Khans here. It is what it is.
Well said John

To be fair, we started very well on Saturday, we played possession football out from the back, but in contrast with much of last season our passing was quick, crisp and accurate. Together with Arsenal really hitting their stride, the first 20 minutes was a pleasure to behold. I remember thinking if we play like this against lesser opposition we'll be fine. Sadly, the first goal was defensive shambles as bad as anything we saw before Hector came and it seemed to blow our confidence out of the water. Saying that, we created a fair few opportunities which Mitro might have been able to exploit had he started. We can't ignore the fact that the second half was very poor but if we treat that as an aberration and move om, there was much to be positive about. Remember, Arsenal were very, very good.
posted by Old Bloke (Guest) - Monday 14th September 2020, 2:29 PM
On saturday we managed to get good crosses into the box, but no one was there to put the ball in the net. One of those was by Mitro out on the right wing. He should have been in the box waiting for a cross, not wide delivering them. SP can't be blamed for that. Its down to the attacking players to be close enough to their defenders, to be able to get to crosses.

I am really amazed how many of our so called supporters have us being relegated after just one game, a game I might add, against a team that is fully expected to be in the top four at the seasons end. If we had been playing the likes of Brighton on our first game and we had won say 2-0, you would all have come on here praising Scott to high heavens, and relegation thoughts would have been put aside until the next game. Look, we all know that we are not going to be in the top 10 this season, but to write us off already is plain stupid. Personally I thought that we did reasonably well against Arsenal, and I was so pleased that the promotion team were given the first match together, which we all know will be the last time together as a unit, with so many new faces in the squad. Whether we like it or not Scott and the squad did get us promoted, and I was absolutely delighted for them, and us, and I have a gut feeling that we are going to do far better than the pessimists are forecasting. Let's get exited at seeing the club that we all love, playing the top sides in the country, and let's hope that it will be for many more seasons to come.

Elche Bert- I had the same thought about an advanced position for Bryan, especially now he's signed a contract extension. It should also help us be more solid when we need to be on the back foot. On the more general topic of being out-muscled in the transfer market- Watkins was always going to favour Villa because of his connections with the manager. Scott Parker has used his connections to get players like Josh. I'm sure there will be clubs bemoaning how we have beaten them to certain players.... Seri cones to mind!!!

It's a game of survival, Fulham should not even think about trying to outplay other premier teams with attractive football. Stop all this trying to play out from defence, stop playing the ball width wise and across your keeper. Fulham are not Man City or Liverpool, look at the way Sheffield United play. Get the ball out of our half of the pitch, play it over the top, keep it out of our half by any means, hoof it into the oppositions penalty area. Get it to out to the wings and put the crosses in as often as possible. Keep it simple.Forget the tipi-tapi style it wont work in the Premiership.
I have a certain sympathy to your point but a) we don’t have the coach who understands how to play effectively in that style b) we don’t have the players to play that style or it would take time to coach them to play that style c) we need a striker who can run and turn defences because that’s how you will turn them and move up field... Mitro is not that player. I think we can still play a possession based game or a passing game but we have to work harder, better shape without the ball, mix it more frequently, pack midfield and get three top class players into the team. If we can do that we have a chance....there might just be three worse teams than us that is all we can hope for.

Tony buys the players it is upto Scott to turn them into a good side. many team play like this and successfully many do it on low budgets too you do not see this because they are french, germany, spanish or italian the template tony chosen and will not back down from Slav tried and failed scotty next up scotty will be given time, maybe until nov to show he can do this tony will have a continental man lineup if not, why? tony is learning and that is the next logical step should scott not improve from 0-3 arsenal, Ipswich and Leeds next up. lets see improvement.

Kunye, I'm really sorry but I have to disagree with you again; five games does not define a season of 38 games. What defines a season is where you finish not where you start.

It will take much longer to integrate new players, adapt to the pace of the Prem and find a way to stop other teams playing.

We let Arsenal play. We were naive (as previously indicated) to expect a team that took over 110 minutes to score a wonder goal and a counter attack goal against Brentford whilst they were throwing 10 men forward to be able to handle Arsenal with their new found determination. No matter what tactics were deployed!

I've written in the past and I'll write it again; we do not have one player in our squad that would see regular first team football in at least 15 of the other 19 PL teams. That does not mean we should dispair because finishing 17th is not an issue in yourt first season in the top flight - ask Villa fans.

We should persevere with our style of football when in possession but wihout the ball we need more commitment, we need to go forward as a team and retreat as a team and that means fitness needs to be at the highest level ever.

Contrary to a comment in another post, Sheff. Utd do not hoof the ball over midfield to front men running onto the ball, they press on the half way line, their first line of defence is their forwards, they pack the midfield and they play reasonably attractive football when in possession. They take their chances and they put their bodies on the line. I did not see this in FFC on Saturday and we need our players to learn how to do that pretty quickly.

Leeds will attack, attack, attack and we need to defend, defend, defend, and break quickly when we get the ball as their attack, attack, attack, leaves them exposed at the back. They are a powerful team as well and we need to match to match their power. Liverpool made silly mistakes against them, we must make no mistakes whatever pressure is applied to us. We can win as they will not have their baying crown adding to the pressure on us but we must be at our best.

Seems to me that when we compete for new players, we more often than not miss out. Can't be the money, FFC have plenty. I reckon too many players believe the relegation forecasts in the press. An experienced manager will often persuade players that they could be part of a good side, e.g. Woy. Does TK get involved in interviews? There's something about Fulham, their approach and potential that fails to inspire. We're supposed to have quality youngsters. Maybe we do have quality youngsters, starting at 18 (like Sess). Play them. Give them a chance. We must buy when players are available. No point in shelling out big bucks for average players, e.g. Knockhart, not wanted by Brighton, £10 m from FFC.
The thinks that loses us the race are ludicrous transfer fee or ridiculous demands by the player. Most of these players have agents who get their players to ask for all sorts perks.

Let’s get off Parker’s back, and just look at this squad vs Fulham circa 2008-2010. Those teams had 6-8 internationals who were among their countries’ top 2-3 players at the time. Dempsey, Davies, Duff, Schwarzer, Hughes, Gera, Brede. Dembele arguably. Now? Only Mitro fits that category. He is the only player who could start on that Europa League team or the teams that followed. TC isn’t part of Scotland and he’s our captain. There has been a HUGE drop in talent. We have recruited poorly. The best player in the USA is Pulisic, and given Fulham’s 20+ year history with Americans, we should have him, not Chelsea. Schwarzer is far superior to Rodak, Hangeland/Hughes vs Hector/Ream is a joke. That said, 17th is attainable. I want to see us stay up and get back to where we were. But if we don’t, it won’t be because of the manager.
I completely agree with Drago and, despite my reservations, Parker must be given a chance. I have little confidence in our scouting team and we need to look for players playing in England, Scotland and Ireland who have the ability to play with passion, not mercenaries. Unfortunately, our present squad is not equipped for the Premier so we must look for players used to English football who can adapt. We need to step up the pace and stop playing tippy tapped football which allow the opposition to get people behind the ball not that we ever seem to actually get players into the opposition's penalty area. I fervently hope that Parker is allow to choose players that he wants rather than TK making all the decisions.

Fully agree.Been obvious for some years and I defence has been poor shall we go out and buy midfield players why it is likely we will avoid relegation and it’s more than likely we will come straight back up again but we never seem to learn from our mistakes

Good post Drago. Sad thing is we’d never be in a position to buy that quality of player now. Signing new players is increasingly difficult and competitive . These clubs are scouting players in the Maternity Clinic now. Oh, to have that 3 at the back again. We can only dream.

No one has commented on Rodaks lack of positioning for their second goal . Arsenal put half a dozen players on the line in a tight huddle , it was obvious where the ball would be placed , Rodak was nowhere near it Even with the advantage of being able to use his hands ..... lightweight goalkeeping . Artefa had obviously coached his players to do this .
This is why we have big shot Alphonso Areola on standby. Everybody involved in our promotion will get a chance. Goalkeepers tend to get the benefit of the doubt more than any other positions. Up to a point anyway. Rodak is a better keeper than Bettonelli but he knows the score.

Thats the only criticism for Rody, His presence in the box from crosses is questionable. No doubt a great shotstopper but he needs to sort that part out. Having said that the defending was atrocious. A bloke who hasnt played for 6 months walks in and scores a free header unchallenged. Embarrassing!

posted by Joka’s revenge (Guest) - Monday 14th September 2020, 9:48 PM
Arsenal consistently took Rodak our of the game in dead ball situations. He should work on that in training and get better. Good players will realise the difference between the Championship and Premier League quality and grow to reach the standard required. I believe Marcus is talented and flexible enough to bridge that gap. The keeper we brought in is an insurance not a replacement.
posted by The Time Is Now - Tuesday 15th September 2020, 7:56 AM
Assume you meant Marek and not Marcus? Your comments don’t make sense on one hand you say he needs to learn and improve on the other you say the highly experienced and acclaimed keeper we loaned is not a replacement but an insurance suggesting Rodak will keep the number 1 position. Alphonse is a great signing and will certainly be first choice and Rodak will be the number 2. By your own admission you cannot have a keeper learning his trade in the PL especially in a poor team. Surely, everyone gets that.....that’s a simple choice for Parker to make. If he’s fit and trained well Alphonse will play Saturday.
posted by Joka’s Revenge (Guest) - Tuesday 15th September 2020, 8:34 AM
I believe Rodak can become a top keeper and will be working with Scott this week to improve his game. I meant that if Maric does not make the grade we have a good replacement. You give a player you trust a chance not drop him first opportunity you get. This will breed a terrible feeling of insecurity amongst the players if they think they will be dropped as soon as they have a bad game.

I honestly think that we have a chance to score against Leeds away because they play a very open and expansive game quite similar to ours. Our problem is taking chances that come our way. Gilt-edged chances we squander in the prem will cost us dearly. I know we have a few grumblings about this squad not being up to the job, but outside the top 6, Scotty must put more enthesis on getting a result if that makes sense? Hector is not the solid rock we big him up to be, he will make mistakes throughout the season. Every defender makes mistakes, it's just not so apparent if your colleagues upfront get you off the hook by putting that ball between those sticks. It is a bold statement by myself to say i still support Scott Parker, and i do up to a point. Parker is still perfecting his system and he will succeed or fall on his sword by it. It is the same sort of system by playing out from the back as Slavisa tried. The question is, will he have enough time to perfect it? Some will say that Leeds have fared better in the transfer window? We have held back with caution this time around because we caned the cash 2 years ago. The question for me is, have we missed out on the best of the current crop of players in this window? Callum Wilson comes to mind. He scored one and Newcastle won their first game, 3 points!!! No question, we could have joined in the bidding for Wilson but we chose not too. Josh King is still available, but at age 28 which is still gettable, and a costly fee of 25-30 mill? Do Fulham have a better prospect in mind? I sincerely hope we do have a card trick up our sleeve because the heat will be on Scott Parker and our Chairman Khan. Alarm bells will be ringing around the West Brom arena because they also sided with caution concerning spending. Or i should say, the lack of spending money not in the pot. You get nothing for finishing a highly 2nd these days, not like us rich folks that win playoffs regularly.,I seriously think that we should break the bank for Josh King because i am struggling to find a better alternative? Everyone knows my nutty thoughts and ideas for a striker and it just aint gonna happen! I will stay loyal to the players we have at this moment in time even Ream. Outside the top 6, we have chances of getting results, and i also think that the likes of Kamara will improve. The question is, will Scott Parker perfect his system? Can our Fulham Players grasp the grail we seek to master???
Either he turns or we go down. Take your pick

OWEN please stop banging on about Kamara. He is rubbish and this weekend only served to confirm he has no place in a Championship squad let alone EPL. BDR isn't much better and even Cav went missing for most of the match. At least Kebano managed to link up with Odoi and put some balls into the area which, had Mitro been playing, might have produced something.

cut a long story short. 1st step: get Ream out of the side. Propose 343 formation Tete Hector Robinson at the back??? not sure Robinson is the best fit for this. but we should try. need 3 defensive types and Robinson has pace so like Tete could do this and cover the flanks. 2nd step: find a way to create goal scoring chances we have the players to play 4 in midfield , I propose Aina Anguissa Reed Bryan The 3 front players more likely a narrow 3 of TC Lemina Mitro With our current players I think this is the best way forward.
That's five new outfield players, or as it's known, half the team. Didn't we try this some time back?

so we not going to use new players? the current ones proved good against Arsenal? the fact is the manager and also those who play should be on short leash . if players do not play well , make errors the next player should come in same for the manager if a formation or system does not work. time to try a new one? the fact we cannot trust Ream and have no other LCM is why we cannot play 4 at the back which in turn means a formation change. now Tony could help by signing a LCM but as he has not...

Bit ominous that the three promoted clubs all lose and concede 10 goals!
posted by Tony R - Sunday 13th September 2020, 4:58 PM
The three promoted team have all lost conceding 10 goals. Leeds were given two goals by Liverpool that they will not give anyone else. They got good publicity but their all out attack tactics will not work in the Premier League. Of the the three we have the best tactics and our defence played well apart from the lapses when the goals were scored. If and when we buy a couple class centre back Scott must think of playing three at the back against opponents who do the same. The backs we have acquired look like wing backs so that would seem the logical thing to do.

Defence non existent. Final third play woeful, no incisive moves totally lack penetration. So terrible defence, unable to score goals = quick return to championship.unless new signings made. At least four premiership class players required urgently.
Brede P Hangeland was bought & never played in the prem before. This prem class player does not exist.. the smallings etc are players that there main clubs don't want for a reason. Why Fulham should pay top dollar for these players?. The big test will be Leeds next match. If Fulham can't match them it's down we go.

What we lacked last year and I can see more exposed this year is intensity. We made some nice quick passes yesterday but we are too slow in going forward and our pressing needs more intensity like Leeds have abundance. I know Parker’s game is different and it is all about holding and controlling the ball. I respect that but we still need a player or two who can scare the opposition with a bit of pace. In this area I thought Kamara could do that but he didn’t have his best game yesterday. I don’t want to drop Bryan but would like to see how we can get Antonio Robinson into the team to get some pace.

When Hector started he looked a different class from the other cb's we have. We should have invested in another centre back of the same standard last season. Now we really need two more so he have more formation options. Against Arsenal if we had changed to three at the back and matched up with Arsenal we may have done better, but with the backs we have that would weaken the team.

Having read most of your responses to yesterday’s match, I am more than ever convinced, that despite your many years of following football, with just a few exceptions, your collective knowledge and nouse could be contained on the back of a single postage stamp, one of the little ones. Were Parker not to have played the promotion winning team, you all would have been screaming for his head, as it is he’s been loyal, given everyone a chance to prove what they can do and will now move on, incorporating his new signings into the squad presumably. Who but an idiot would have expected last years team to have come anywhere near the quality of Arsenal. Who amongst you were criticising Ream and other members of the team last season, how are they going to look better in the Premiership? It’s going to be a tough, very tough season, all pundits predict we are the certainty to be relegated, that’s possibly true but for heavens sake give Parker a bit of your time and your support, I assuming some of you know what that is? That goes for the team and club too. Be like me, limit your opinions to observations on performances, avoid the armchair tactics and pseudo management, you sound silly. Parker for all his shortcomings has forgotten more about football than you will ever know. Now you’ve got something to rant about:))
Hi Morty, Parker had to give the promoted team a start, also the new guys can not be up to speed with Parker’s system. There is still quite a bit of time to get new players in, they to will need to acclimatise, this allows Parker to get the early signings used to the style of play whilst avoiding playing all the new players at once, which is a risk.

OK mort limit your opinions to observations on performances. We need two monsters CHs & if that wasn't clear in your observations in previous seasons there something wrong with your observations. If we don't get any CHs in our fullback will have no confidence to go forward. As for transfers Parker has some input. You can get the best DM money can buy but if the CHs are no good what's the point. Forget back up for Mitro use the moneys on CHs.

Over to you Ken to amaze us all in the future with some insightful comments on our tactics based on your immense experience and vast common sense.

My views on Scott Parker are well known but, in all fairness, he should not be judged on yesterday's game against an in form team who have been playing against the best. Having watched MOD last night it was obvious our defence will continue to leak goals as they are not organised, stand rooted to the same spot allowing the opposing forwards to move into wide open areas and no idea of picking up players. With this defence our attack has little chance to score goals as they will not get any service from a bunch of headless chickens who are unable to defend and are too slow even to gain possession. I agree that Ream needs to be sold or retired and we desperately need a Danny Murphy or a Jim Taylor who can organise, control and distribute the ball up to our front men. Now is the time from Parker to show whether he has the acumen to cut the mustard in the Premier or whether we suffer humiliation once again. We will know the answer after our next six games but don't hold your breath.
Six games? We gave Slavisa 12 games and in hindsight we all thought the board judged him too early and would have liked to see him given until Christmas, which is around 16-17 games. He hasn’t had the chance to make one single change yet. We should give Parker the same amount of time before judging him. We can criticise individual performances and comment where we gone wrong or which even slaughter the players but we must give Parker time, until the January transfer window if not the whole season.

coaching and tactical ability is whats required, yes I know we were playing a good inform team but the inadequacies displayed makes me wonder what is taught on the training ground.apart from 3 we have had some inept manager/coaches over the last 15yrs.

John, please read my post again. I did not suggest sacking Scott Parker after the next six games. I said we, meaning us supporters, would know what the future holds for Fulham. Sacking managers rarely proves successful so Parker should remain for the whole season. After the next six games I suspect most of us we know where we will finish the season.

Not splashing too much cash and leaving Parker where he is would be our best chance of not returning to the mess that we found ourselves in, only a short while ago. Let’s give these players and Parker a chance to show us what they can do and not succumb to panic and then, if needs be, rebuild from the top down .Enjoy the ride, we are Fulham

Right to give Parker 3 year contract. Right to keep him even if we go down. Like Norwich did with there manager. Right not to panic after one game. Right to get a good CB that wants to come to Fulham every one wants one not a lot about. Right to back your side through hard season

Us Fulham have never recovered since the break up the H defense Hangeland/Hughes in the early 2010s. 7 or 8 years on and it ain't Rocket Science we need another 1 or 2 new CBs too, to partner Hector who was poor Yesday for the 1st goal needs to step up in the mould of Keetch,Gale,Brown,Coleman Hangeland and Hughes. I notice as well Leeds and Liverpool didn't have a problem putting in long ball bombs that created goals. Where and what our coaches doing still tippy tappying as its ptoves it doesn't work anymore. Our coaches need to progress cos if they don't SP will be gone. I do not think SP has it as a Manager but I reckon he should stay the whole season, regardless.

Agreed bigboy . Thought we were unlucky at Anfield when Slav got the push. Played Chambers in front of the back 4 ,a lot better. Slav should have had more time!!

We are in a mini league of 6 clubs who are candidates for relegation. Won't bother to name as pretty obvious. Key for us can we make three key signings to take us above this bottom 6. Will probably cost £75 to £100 mill. Apart from great loan signings but they do not always come off! Do need a Danny M. a Louis Saha and a Brede Hangeland.not sure we will find them!
Us , Leeds , wba , palace , Southampton, wet spam , Newcastle , Brighton, Villa , Burnley !

Despite being in the Premier League only two seasons ago, we are still relative new boys to this league, and unlike the Championship we can never play in any match, where we can expect to win, and neither for that matter can any other team in the bottom half of the table. I have never read such despondency as I have read on this site after only one game, against a team that will probably finish in the top four. Unless you were blind, you could see that at times during the whole game, not just the first half, that we played really well, but lacked that cutting edge. We are all on about getting a new CB, but to my mind it is another striker or two, that is far more important, as if you score more than the opposition you will win despite how many you let in as per Liverpool yesterday, and they were only playing Leeds from the Championship like us. Stop sending out bad defeatist remarks to the players, when we should, like I will try to encourage them, as believe me we will NOT be relegated this season, but we will like others of our ilk lose quite a few matches over the season. Keep the faith.

If we're in a mini-league of only six clubs, that means we're playing for a max number of thirty points. Let's hope that there's opportunities higher up the league.
