Very clever man. For many years there was a large trackside piece of graffiti half a mile outside of Paddington station which read, in large neat letters, "Nicholas Parsons is the neo-opiate of the masses". A fitting tribute, if not particularly flattering. Requiescat.

Yes we have signed Kongogo, which might be a good signing, but I've been reading the papers and listening to the sports radio programmes, but I have not heard or read any encouraging reports or rumours about Fulham about to sign any strikers. I just wondered if any of our supporters who have their ears more to the ground than me, have heard anything substantial as time is getting short now.

Making reid's move permanent means we can sign one more player on loan, linked with Carter Vickers from Spurs but i hope its a striker

Looking for a striker who is currently out of form or injured ( maybe both ) , has a price tag of £15m minimum , comes highly rated by his agent and is ready to commit heart and soul to the club for at least three months !

In the sports gossip columns.it says there are 6 players that Fulham are interested in,most look past it but the 2 of interest are Vydra of Burnley and Wickham of Palace the latter only being a loan till the seasons end. I would not mind seeing either at the Cottage.

Benteke from Palace would be perfect . Proven goal scorer , i think he averages one a season . Numerous attempts at goal or at least in the right direction give or take 10 yards . Sulks a lot , injury prone , huge salary - what is not to like .Agent says he is good and at £20m would be a bargain .

Our under 18s won again on Saturday and now top the league on goal average above Chelsea with a game in hand. I manage to get down to MP at least twice a week and its fascinating to watch the training sessions the first team appear like strollers with poseur Parker orchestrating procedures, while a couple of pitches away the youngsters are put through their paces with much more intensity. Indecently the gathering of club scouts who can often be found there are always watching the youths.

Kunye has got a valid point, Pete, will Mitrovic stay on in the Championship? Mitrovic is too high profile in this league and the longer we stay here, many more prem teams will come knocking. There really isn't too many target men around in the same mould as Mitrovic and we are lucky to have him on board thanks to Slavisa. Is Scott Parker getting the best out of Mitrovic? That is a no! We can worry a little bit less when we hear that our board has put a 40 odd million price-tag on Mitro, but i would still be worried that he will take his talents somewhere else. The Wife might like a slow boat trip with the kids and ice cream along the Thames and Harrods shopping is fantastic, but a man will dream of bigger things and see the big picture. Mitrovic will move on eventually, especially if we stay another season in this division unless he has tattoed 'I love Fulham Forever' on his chest, then we have a chance of keeping him...

Yes we were a man down , yes we were playing city but was any one actually interested on the field?,sloppy passes half a kip,we have a keeper who looks like he just got into the under 18s no command no nothing cant kick ,back four that seems to forever changing, and a mid field that has no ball players at all.Our strikers !!! who ever they are contribute nothing, knocky and carvo??? what do they do,? that's if they actually play, seems injuries pick them out in a crowd, Mitro must look back some times and think how did we get to third place with this lot.I hoped we would get a back up for mitro, but noway just more def and mid /f,and a new keeper ,who on earth is coming up with these players?.We have no leader on the pitch and for sure we aint got one in the dugout, watching parker playing bum bumping in the tech area with pep what the !!!!,then having a two page spread in the sun singing the virtues of Foden, nothing about any ffc players,if parker goes we have a guy who played for top teams and England and is a ballplayer and did ok for us , step up danny boy.

The Man City game showed us that the loan signing of Kongolo, will be a big plus for FFC hopefully he can play alongside Hector with Odoi returning to right back. He seems strong and quick, and hopefully with our injured strikers returning for the Huddersfield game, there will be genuine competition for places. With Kevin Mcdonald providing the screen we will concede very few goals. We do have the goalscorers, if we can move the ball a little quicker. Do not feel we need any more signings unless a stand out player, not much chance of that. I think we can go up this year, worry about the future afterwards.

Yes, we lost. Yes, Ream won the idiot of the match. Yes, we were probably naive thinking we can outplay football without our key players. Yes, if Man City tried harder the score could be more. But what’s the big deal? We had no chance of winning the match anyway so to give Parker the benefit of doubt, he probably want to try a couple of things. A different formation and see how the team cope playing football against the best out there. Sadly, it didn’t work and Parker probably didn’t see the result of the experiment due to the sending off so early! We’d never know what it could have been if we had 11 players!! But the result would be the same - we’d lost regardless! So let’s give Parker a break! He should be judged on championship games. Coyw

Well, going on recent form Labour party, reaction to Bexit and Greta telling me its all her fault that she had a rotten childhood I would like to say that although I totally recognise that Manchester City FC playing at home won the FA Cup game of football against Fulham FC. Fulham FC won the styles of haircuts and finess of our players. True again our defence proved that you do not need an oppositon to lose games. Tim Ream was too old at 31 years last season in the Prem, nice but no Brian McBride. Did you see Harvey Elliotts contribution in the draw Liverpool FC had with Shrewsbury Town? I thought he was excellent, a fabulous footballer but Liverpool FC errr where's our £15 mill for the little bugger please. Our goalkeeper Marek Radek was excellent, had no chance with second goal conceeded too far away, but gave it good try. Thought the aging Steffan Johansson too put in a decent shift. Captain of Norway! Who?

I have not fought it’s been a bad season. Did not expect much today with injury’s and away to a great side . But the tactics were woefull every goal was a mistake to try and pass out from the back when playing the best could only lead to disaster . It was like watching Jokanovic when we were in Premiership . Let’s hope it’s not hurt us to much we get a few players back and get back to winning ways . COYW

Like most of us I had no expectations of getting much from today's match and in the end it turned out to be a total non event ,the fact that we had a man sent off made not the slightest difference to the outcome. if the owners were watching the game they surely most realise that we are totally out of our depth in this company. In an ideal world they would get the services of a good experienced coach someone like Chris Houghton and see if he can turn things round before the season ends. However I feel it ain't going to happen and we will simply stay as we are,a half decent side playing in a very ordinary league.
posted by Dave (Guest) - Sunday 26th January 2020, 7:11 PM

Turn things around Dave, apart from being in the top two, what sort of season do you think that we are having. We are sitting reasonably comfortable in 3rd place in the league, with an obvious shout of being in the play offs at the end of the season and we still have a pretty good chance of an automatic promotion position, so what type of a turn around are you looking for. Considering that we have hit a run of injuries and sickness, with our leading goal scorer on the side lines, how much better do you think that we should be doing. I am not a great Scott Parker fan, but quite honestly, he is doing alright at the moment, and as a regular visitor to Brighton, and knowing some of their fans, I can assure you that they were very pleased to see the back of Houghton, as he was boring them to tears. Stick with SP for this season anyway, as he may get surprise us all. ? ?
posted by A C (Guest) - Sunday 26th January 2020, 8:18 PM

Like to agree with you AC, but it's the ponderous way we try and play from the back that is so annoying, and that is all down to the coach, I still think we have a decent squad but need someone who can motivate them, something SP seems unable to do.But you will have your wish because he is in for the long haul.

What I struggle to comprehend is the way to be almost glossing over the performance. When it was a man v boys game.I doubt the likes of Leeds, WBA, Brentford, would of rolled over, as we did. Comments such as, "my proudest day" when we have been absolutely hammered. If this is the "identity" he is looking for, then we are a million miles from a Premier team. Yes, Manchester City are an excellent team and lets be honest we did not expect to get a result. I also understand the need to protect the players however a more honest assessment from the manager would be "Well beaten by a better side, we had a few injuries but if we are to get to the premiership and to compete, then we need to try and match their intensity, improve our concentration, speed of movement. this was a good lesson for our younger players today" blah , blah

The playing out from the back is a managerial decision not the players. Parker demands it but the players can’t do it to a decent standard. P#ss poor management to ask players to do what they are not capable of doing, and even worse to ask them to do it week in week out.

We need to learn some sort of playing out system, we are and always will be a team that plays pass football. The Championship is the place to learn and perfect it. Our problem is, we are okay one week against Middlesboro, (without the goal ratio) and another week against Charlton they tighten up on us. Scott Parker is still learning his trade and maybe we should get more experience in? There is nothing wrong in demoting him to an assistant, and it would do him good to learn alongside someone higher. In the mean-time, we have onboard a mixture of talent and arguably, enough talent to get us promotion. That is the conundrum we have to wrestle with...

Having watch the game from the comfort of a reclining armchair, with an excellent view, much clearer than standing at the of the Hammy end, I consider it is obvious to see the problems. Within the first minute we nearly conceded a goal by the stupid pass from Rodak to a defender in his own six yard box when City had already set up camp in our half. Six minutes later Ream, captain for this match, needlessly dragged the City player down, which was more akin to wrestling, when there was a reasonable chance that Rodak, who was alert to the danger, may well have blocked or got to the ball first. Totally unprofessional, and as an experienced player and captain he should have known better. Unfortunately, he is no longer a player capable of playing at this level and should now be told, which will not happen, his services are no longer require. We are not comfortable on the the ball so must stop playing out inside our own penalty area by playing higher up the pitch. Once again, on the rare occasions we were in possession, we gave the ball away because of our inability to pass to our own players. Extremely disappointing as we did not put up a fight and proved that we are not ready for promotion. Compared to Brentford performance against Leicester we are abject second rate and will remain so until our club is run in a professional manner which means the removal of Baby Khan from being in charge of recruitment and some others within the hierarchy. Please can any one explain the complete disappearance of Matt. Is he injured or just being ignored after his reasonable performance a few weeks ago?

Quite rightly we all feel gutted with how the match went, we were looking forward to seeing how the team would compete against a top class team. In the event it turned into a horror show. Of course we hear the same people demanding that SP be replaced. Sorry guys it ain't going to happen, we will continue to be a half decent side in a very ordinary league, who may or may not get into a play - off spot.

Bigboy' if we kick the ball long all the time, we will still get murdered. The big boys play out from the back, we need to learn a system. Scott Parker isn't our man for this job, but we can still keep him if needs be. Demote him to number 2 and bring in a more experienced manager. I still think that this squad is a better line-up than Slavisa's squad and more balanced. Slavisa would have done a better job with the likes of Mitrovic, especially against teams like Charlton etc. We don't have a target-man at the moment, but the skill is to utilize and get something more out of this squad. Slavisa introduced Sessegnon on to the field, and i think he would know where and how to use Matt O' Reilly. The Middlesboro game was great for Parker even though we couldn't score more, but other teams learn fast.Wind on to a wily Charlton and we look clueless. Scott Parker needs to learn how to tweak our team when players are not available and that takes experience...

Owen, read my post properly. I did not suggest booting the ball upfield but implied that if we played higher up the pitch there would not be any need to roll the ball out in our own penalty area. Just because everyone is trying to play it out from the back does not make it right for every one. As my old granny use to say "would you put your head Iin the oven if I told you to" when I explained that I did something naughty because Billy told me to do so.

I did not watch the game and judging from all the negatives about our set-up, we might as well give up our 3rd spot to Forest, Brentford or even Preston. Why all the negativity? Do we think that any of these teams mentioned are fully equipped for the prem? They are just like us and i would argue that the likes of Northern Preston do not have all the mod cons and facilities that we do. Small Brentford have a case of little big man syndrome, and they truly are in our shadows. Get a grip guy's, why shouldn't we earn our stripes and give promotion a real go! We have some parachute payments that will stand us in good stead financially for a few years in this league anyway. I see no good reason why we shouldn't push again and get more from the golden goose. Ours is a small club in London and we will always be behind Chelsea. and Arsenal, big deal we lose to City in a cup match! Scott Parker may not be the answer to Premiership survival, but we know that deep down. We have enjoyed 13 years in the prem with some darn good memories and yes it will be difficult if we get there again, but maybe we might just get lucky with the next manager or coach. Forget Man City and the FA Cup. Most teams in the prem will get dusted by them anyway and by a darn site more than the 4-0 they beat us...We don't want the prem? Do mea favour! Small Brentford are punching above their weight to get there. Grow a pair guys!!!!!
Replies
Owen, if we get promoted the board will not sack Parker. It’s ok saying “big deal” we lost, but fans travelled to the game to watch us have a go at city. That was messed up after six minutes due to “Reamy” panicking. His name should be Dreamy, he certainly wasn’t awake today. We did not give up and the team couldn’t have tried any more than they did. I didn’t think your grow a pair” statement is justified considering you did not go to or watch the game.

There was a good article in yesterdays Times about Brentfords set up from scouting, training and fitness,2 points that I thought stood out were 1 : : : "Fitness" it was stated that a none footballing coach was employed to ensure that the players were at peak performance for 100min, yes 100min,it appears that many of our lads cant get past 80. 2: : : "Adaptability".The manager said the style and method of play must change and adapt to the form and formation of ones opposition on the day. How true. Once again no Matt or Jay.

Gaz' i was referring to the negatives from Ghost and peter and not our team Parker put out against City. I imagine that half the prem might have lost 4-0 and more today. I still think Parker wouldn't be good enough to manage us in the prem, and i have no objections to Parker stepping down to number 2 and we bring in a more experienced manager. Scott Parker is really delusional to even play a nearly full strength squad. He might have played the likes of O'Reilly etc. Accept the loss and try out some young players and give Ream and co a rest. Scott Parker still believes that tactics from himself would be okay against a strong and powerful set-up such as City, no chance! I agree with his philosophy by playing out from the back, but there is so much to learn still from Parker and he needs help! We didn't have a main target-man against Charlton and we were stumped! I still believe that with this squad, albeit without Mitrovic or AK, Scott Parker should still be able to shuffle the pack and organise us better and further still, be able to come up with a formation to break through an awkward Charlton defence. He isn't able to do that in this league too often and i really can't see how he can lead us with more progress. If wedo not gain promotion with a40 million price tagged Mitrovic, there is no way i can see Scott Parker keeping his job, never mind premiership. Learn a lesson from Pearson at Watford. Take a loss and move on to priority games in the league. I am sure we all would have liked to see Matt O' Reilly do a full debut for Man City? Funny how a lot of fans on this forum are calling for him to be sacked after a game against Man City who will not win the league now, but they will most likely prioritise the FA Cup.

Would be ridiculous to get rid of Parker at this time of the season. He should have gone after relegation. We are third in the table and to be honest we haven’t set the division alight have we?. In my opinion we don’t look fit physically and certainly not mentally. Our players cannot express themselves and take risks when we have are going forward, yet we are playing a very risky system. So what if they sack Parker? We would have to get a Manager and back room staff. The players would have to get used to a new style of play. There’s not enough time. Get behind the team and see where we get.

If we are lucky enough to get promoted we must find a way to play. We have been going on about mistakes made and goals conceded by the way of playing out. If you can see that the players are not comfortable why not do something about it? Teams like city exploit the weak link yet we still won’t change the way we play. I actually feel quite sorry for some of the team, they never really had much chance from the off, then Ream (who should have been on the bench after Charlton) let’s the whole team down. They never gave up though. Parker needs to realise that the majority of our players can’t play this system, so either change the system or change the players. The answer must be the system, I don’t think Khan senior would relish getting rid of Juniors purchases (again) and spending more money.
Replies
Don’t think there’s much point getting promotion. Better quality in every position, what did you expect? Better to stay in the Championship at least they compete most weeks. Short of spending £250 million we’ve got no chance. Think our limitations are about a bit more than our insistence and inability to play out from the back.
posted by Realistic (Guest) - Sunday 26th January 2020, 3:01 PM

It’s almost like the players are too scared to think for themselves and to mix things up by not playing out from the back when the opposition presses high from the front. We are so one dimensional in our approach.

Reidy has signed and i say, welcome aboard! The striker's role is not Bobby's best position and the sooner big Mitro and AK come back, the better for us and Bobby. Reidy will be more effective for sure in that hole just behind the strikers, and he should be good for 8-10 goals contributing each season. Bobby Reid will give big problems to our rivals. A nightmare to come up against, and an absolute star for Fulham. Welcome BOBBY REID!!!!!

Why do we have to bother with the dying fa cup, those days are over.
Replies
FA cup is still worth winning and a nice trophy for the cabinet. The only snag is that the teams just below Liverpool will target and most probably win it more so than smaller teams now. If you can't win the prem or Champions league, you want a trophy to satisfy those money men upstairs. Besides, its a nice day out at Wembley and the fans still love the euphoria of the cup. It's a shame that the smaller clubs will have less chance of winning it now. Jose Mourinho would love it for Spurs and his ego, but even he will struggle to get his greasy palms on it...

Replies
I think we had already paid the majority of the fee as a loan I heard 6m so we just paid the last 4m to complete it. They said when we got him there was an obligation to buy him cos if we sent him back we’d have lost the 6m. I guess we’ve done this so we can bring in another player on loan like how we paid for Cav now so we could bring In kongolo as a loan.

O'Riley will be off. Too many new boys ahead of him for selection. As for Parker I think he's doing an excellent job as reflected in our league position. He also suffers from the malign influence of Khan junior and his idiotic approach to contracts. Missed Hector for half a season for no reason (never mind the ridiculous FFP excuse), Onomah with a "must play if available" contract, enough walking wounded to qualify for Harry's support( were he still around). The PARKER MUST GO train left the station weeks ago. As the Brexit slogan goes, "you lost, get over it".
posted by The Arizonan - Friday 24th January 2020, 11:39 PM

I'm not saying it ain't so for for a minute, but do we really know the details of players contracts? For example Onomah "must play if available" Is there somewhere in the Fulham website or financial workings that we can check that or is it, like Seri before him, conjecture? Be nice to know one way or another.
posted by Hints - Saturday 25th January 2020, 1:30 AM

It is conjecture but there's no other logical explanation as to why Seri and Onomah were picked after repeated dismal performances, when more accomplished players were left languishing on the bench. Similarly the machinations with O'Riley. He's brought on as a sub, played to MOTM standard according to most and taken off after 88 minutes. He hasn't been seen since either on the pitch or on the bench. He might be injured, who knows? Or the powers that be might have polished his credentials prior to the window opening. No doubt he's being crowded out by incoming journeymen but this, again, is just observation and conjecture. If the club weren't so enamoured with acting all "secret squirel" for no apparent reason we'd all be better informed.

He is without doubt one of the most gifted players in the Championship , and we are lucky to have him . But he does seem to be carrying an injury and looks about 75% up to speed . My main concern is the extra responsibility of captaincy seems to weigh heavily on his shoulders and i think this can affect his game . He is not a natural motivator and tends to lead by a good pass rather than pumping of the fist or a crunching tackle . We have seen over the years , and not just in football , it is not always the most skilled player that makes the best captain . I think a change with us could benefit the team and Cairney himself . But i have a feeling he has it written into his contract , as part of the sweetener , that if he plays he has to be captain , so any change would need to mutually agreed .
Replies
Agree; Hector should be captain now in my opinion and even in our promotion year I thought the capataincy would have been better suited to Kmac....

Agree on Hector being captain, but it cannot happen this time now. It wouldn't do a lot for morale if Hector was appointed captain after being here 5 minutes. Let's see him work himself up to a few more MOTM titles firstly and assert more authority in general. A definite future captain for next season for sure and a more acceptable and smoother transition will be pleasing to the eye...

what a load of nonsense where do you dig this up from the river , if TC plays its written in his contract he is captain ,delusion set in, his contribution is so poor now , big mistake putting him on long contract ,he holds our play slows it down goes side ways back wards he needs a reality check he is not the player he used to be he would not be missed at all

FFS! Hector only played 3 games and you want to make him the captain!! surely that’s an insult to the likes of Cairney, Mitro, SJ, Odoi etc! Get real!
posted by John (Guest) - Friday 24th January 2020, 10:06 PM

Totally agree Owen. I don’t want him to be MOTM every week though, this means we are under cosh a lot. I want strikers to be MOTM. I think the captaincy was part of his deal with the club. He is loved by the Khans so maybe Parker can’t give the armband to someone else. Seriously though, he is not fit enough to play at pace, and Parker May have to play a low tempo game to accommodate Tom. When fit he can control a game, When not fit and plays the team suffer. Put O’Rielly in and get Tom fit.
posted by Gaz - Friday 24th January 2020, 10:08 PM

The.number of games Hector has played is irrelevant. He is obviously a natural leader and organises the back four and defensive midfield really well. None of the players you mention have those qualities. Time served, is not a reason to allocate a captain or Stephen Sessignon would be prime candidate.
posted by MST (Moderator) - Saturday 25th January 2020, 6:58 AM

I do think TC has it in his contract that if he plays he is captain . This was part of the new deal when his previous contract ended and we were anxious to keep him . ( Just as Seri and Zambo A had it in theirs they would only play in top league , hence their loan transfers this season ) . In my view TC would be an even better player without the responsibility of being captain .
