I’d rather have TC delivering than Knockaert, first of all. But also, we have to do better and be more creative. It’s a joke how bad we’ve been since Odoi’s header.

There might be some Fulham fans that are more comfortable in our present league and have no wish for promotion? I am not one of them! We really need to try again and push for promotion again. The harsh reality is that players like Arter, Mitrovic, Caravalleo, and a few others will possibly move on after this season if we fail to move up. We are still early on in the season and maybe there is no need to panic i agree, but if we continue to lose games that we should win, the maths will not work out for Fulham. Tactically today, i think that Parker all over the place with his subs. He took Bobby Read off and bought on Odoi why? Mitro was the obvious choice to bench in the 2nd half because of his international exploits. Anyone who disagrees, must remember that Mitro did not score when he should have and 100% he would have been tired 2nd half. Steve Sess could have been subbed earlier, especially after his yellow card. Can Parker make these big tactical decisions when called to? We are blessed with all the God given talent in this league, yet we are losing games that we should win. Can any Fulham fan say honestly that a point to Slvan Bilic and WBA was a fair one to take? Bilic knows that he got out of jail, especially after the first half. We should have been clear by at least 3 goals by a country mile, ask Doris about that one! Doris and her chickens would have collected more eggs after a runaround! Was i correct about Bettonelli? Yes i was! Give i Owen a pat on the back for intelligence, i will thank you very much!!! If anyone is interested in proper goalkeeping? I suggest a Van Der Sar video or take a look at a proper goalkeeper, 'Hugo Lloris' Loris came to the top of my head because he can do the intelligent stuff like throw a ball out accurately and turn a moment into attack. Bettonelli cannot make a quick decision like the top guys do, the tempo needs to be quicker from him sometimes. Bettonelli slopes around with the ball like a lost boy, and plays footsie with our defenders who slip into his sleep-time. Who keeps on saying that Fulham have the best talent in this league? The pundits, the managers, as Slavan Bilic who knows he got away with murder. More points lost and counting folks! Come by Xmas, and we will see how many points slipped! Will the Khans look over their shoulder now and have a peek to see who is available? Should they? It is still early days folks, and not much to worry about. I am worried about points slipped already but no worries, i could be wrong. I don't have a clue what i am talking about. Back to my laptop and my replays on match of the day. 'Yippee kiy yea!!!!!

The truth is we really messed up last season, signed so many players that didn’t settle in and basically weren’t good enough.personally I would prefer to go up next season although I’m confident we will be involved in a promotion push but it’s never good chopping and changing managers . Ranieiri was a terrible appointment and Parker needs to wise up tactically but give the guy time. We’ve dropped points already but we’re all over these teams so once we’ve settled down we will turn draws into wins,Bettinelli was good enough 2 seasons ago once we’ve sorted our defence out we’ll be fine.

We never lost yesterday, were We on MOTD yesterday then? I agree we need an intelligent Keeper like Lioris, one that drinks and drives, really intelligent. Your post on Friday stated Betts must throw the ball out and look at VDS. You have just repeated the post again. You also said we have got to get the ball to Mitro, in this post you said he should have been took off due to tiredness. You do deserve a pat on the back Owen, Pat Butcher from Eastenders from three floors up.

Owen your of again. All if ands and buts and may bees. At start of the season you were saying we will go back up. Now we aint doing so well and the wind has change. With the talk about players playing mid week and they are tired thats there job to play a couple of times a week. With Betts like all players they are like little robots. They are told what to do and what not to do. Betts is told how to play out from his aera with to full backs standing inside the eighteen yard box. And i dont see them liking it that way. But thats the way parker tells them to do it. There is no natural flair any more . Its all robotic football. Its like i think Dan gleebals said.To you no To you. We can have a million touches and passes. But in the death if you carnt put that little white ball over that little white line it dont mean jack all. West brom did yesterday and got a point. See you all at Sheff Wed next Saturday.

A bit like the Forest game all over again! We dominate the game. We can’t convert possession into goals. We get sloppy. We give away silly goals. We lose valuable points. We will be out of top 6 by 5pm today - with the players we have, it isn’t good enough!! Where’s our winning mentality/habit that Parker was talking about?
Replies
It’s definitely not good enough, there’s teams in our division who can only dream of the players we have yet they are playing out of their skin and above us

We are playing far too much pretty pretty football, and not enough of attacking football. Lovely to watch I must admit, but the object of the games is to score goals, and we aren't doing enough of that. If we are going to be involved in the play off's we must be more ruthless in front of goal, staring next Saturday. COYW

Just fed up with us trying to win games with the minimum effort to get a result when other teams with less ability are dying for the cause. The two subs changed the game for them and no on the pitch up top had the nouse to say let’s keep hold of the ball, Parker seemed to think we would get away with the win when even my Nan would be able to see they were coming back into the game and we needed fresh legs. I wish cairney would keep it simpler when we are 1-0 up as well. No Hollywood passes which go straight to the opposition

You can afford to play the way we do when you are 5-0 up but to casually stroll around the friggin' pitch when you only 1-0 is asking for trouble. Sort it Parker. PS Is Betts seriously the best we've got? God help us...
Replies
I get nervous every time someone has a set piece in our half. We were lucky twice in the first half when Austin spooned over the bar and headed straight at Betts. Unmarked both times!! When are we going to strengthen at the back, it's the only thing holding us back now from being a serious team! Had to take our chances in first half

Four mistakes for the goal. 1 - the forwards got sloppy and kept giving the ball back, 2 - Parker didn’t react to their subs, we needed fresh legs on to counteract their subs. 3 - we kept dropping back and allowing them close to our goal. 4 - Betts mistake. But the goal is preventable on point one, not point 4. Frustrated again that there seems to be some brain cells lacking out on the pitch

I think you need to look at it again there was no punch in face and that’s what players do know try to impede the gk. Most gks would make the 6 yard box his and due to his bad positioning he should be able to punch that away. Rodak has more awareness of his area and makes it his domain. By the way I’ve supported GC for over 50 years through good and bad times

At last management has signed a defender from Chelsea where he has not played a single game. O.K. he's been out on loan to Aberdeen, Aldershot, Cheltenham Town, Hull, Eintracht (One Way)Frankfurt, Reading x 6 times, Sheffield Wednesday but £6 million for a player who has only played a handful of games in the Championship is worrying. I saw him at Reading some time ago and can't remember him standing out above the others. Being Brazilian does not make you a World Cup star. Hope he's excellent better than Alfie Mawson who costalot and seems to have lost the plot. There are better defenders playing in Iceland and Denmark I can assure you than the lot we've have got. With the exception of Ream, who has been solid!

You talk some crap where you get few games in Championship got Sheffield Wednesday player of season last season did well at Reading why Chelsea signed him both sets of fans would take him back also did well at Hull and in Germany you know all this your just a bad wind up merchant . I will never forgive Boris if he doesn't take this opportunity, and neither will millions of others in this country. Know what you mean. No objection to them that can, playing any way at which they are competent, and have the required skills and personnel. Trouble is these things get to be fashionable and Tom, Dick and Harry think they can all play like the competent exponents of the ‘in vogue’ system. Play to your strengths, 1) you’ll probably be more successful and 2) you won’t look such a bunch of pr*ts.

It's a valid strategy if you mix it up a bit. If the opposition know you're going to play it out every time they'll bring the high press. Seems that when Bettinelli kicks long the ball goes into touch half the time, the other half being an aimless punt. He should be capable of throwing it to the half way line and kicking it to within five yards of a chosen receiver but it seems he can't control his kicking well enough. I can see the day coming when he gets booked for timewasting, picks up a second yellow and gets the early bath. His arrogance outshines his ability sometimes.

Do you know what I'd just love to see a 1-2-3-5 formation come back again - keeper, left and right backs, three centre halves, two wingers, two inside forwards and a centre forward. This to me was always the perfect line for both attack and defence. Me, old fashioned? Yup....

Arizonan this is exactly what I was thinking, this passing short balls in your own box highlights players who tend to panic when under pressure. Once this kicks in it gets contagious and other players panic, then the ball gets given to the opposition. The out ball is back to the keeper to clear, this goes wrong and we’re in trouble due to his distribution. I also think that passing and losing the ball in your own box causes more penalties against you. It just seems to me that Betts is nervous playing this style. Hopefully time will tell.

I agree too Ari. So easy to close us down as the opposition know exactly what we’re going to do. Need to mix it up and keep them guessing. Mind you need an increased skill set for that. They’re no flaming good at what they’re doing you’d think they’d practice other options until they maser some alternatives. It me recollection that Bettinelli has been booked a couple of times for time wasting. Definitely pushes his luck.

What former players who played the 1235 system would of been able to play the system we play now? Quite a few I would think.

Seems to be a lot of negative Betts comments lately. Lloris, Barthez were/are dodgy keepers and have won world cups and european championships, seaman and schmeichel made mistakes. No such thing as a perfect goalkeeper. stick with betts, he will learn and will actually give a sh1t about the club. i don't mind mistakes. Goals can be prevented way before they get near the keeper

Looking at the top sides it always seems that the ball is passed quicker than we do. With regard to Betts it is something the manager has to sort out. Betts is a decent keeper, he needs to get used to the system because I can’t see Parker changing the way we play.

Regret I don’t get to read every post and I was only referring to comments made in this thread. Personally I have always been a big fan of Betts particularly way back when the Buffoon Button was keeping him out of the team. I would never have played Fabri in front of him although I have to confess I thought the loanee( forgotten his name...duh) did improve as the season progressed, however I would have rotated him with Betts. I agree with what Ari has said and I believe the whole defence is being asked to play a predictable system which they are incapable of executing properly or are not sufficiently confident with. Playing out from the back I think requires confidence in one another, a certain set of skills and/or intensive rehearsal, none of which they seem to have. Maybe they’ll get more proficient as the season progresses, I bloody well hope so.

I am sorry the betts debate is rambling on, I have been on this site for a couple of weeks to defend a keeper who to me is pretty decent. recent negative comments about him, not I might add in the above postings, have been over the top and not particularly accurate. the ones making them have been absent during the last fortnight, but no doubt the teensiest error betts makes against the baggies, one will be on here screaming for rodak to come in, or another one, who I wont mention, will say he is the weak link. you just cant win!

Picking up the pace and a quick throw-out accurately would be favourable. Bettonelli should watch a few Van Der Sar videos, which would give him a few pointers. Bettonelli is too sedative sometimes, and he needs to be on the move early. These points are constantly bought up regarding Betts. We all like him and want him to do better and he can improve if he wants to. We need to work that ball up to Mitro quicker and better quality, and that means all around the pitch...

To be honest, before the weekend I had no idea who we were playing? Even though England scored 9 goals over two game, I still couldn’t get excited. Maybe I need some viagra otherwise tbh preferred to watch, say, Fulham drawing nil-nil with Charlton! That’s a pretty sad reflection on the international games! Some said on five live perhaps all big teams should be given a bye into the finals - probably not a bad idea to stop watching meaningless games! Look forward to Saturday - back to club football!

Can’t really disagree with most of what you say Len. Maybe the problem is just too much football. Could it be as much a question of quantity over quality, particularly at International level? Just too many Championships which appear surplus to normal requirements. It does seem like wall to wall football sometimes. Too much of a good thing etc, etc as my old mum, or someone used to say. :)

Unfortunately Len there is far too much in my past to remember. I’ve refined it down to just the good bits. Mid week internationals I remember, no need for the suspension of league games then. Now the top clubs wouldn’t be able to field a team if there were some kind of international group games. Limit foreign player numbers I say. Have very fond memories of watching under 21 internationals at the Bridge in the 50s, great atmosphere and seem to recall great entertainment.

Mitro, Cavaleiro and Cairney! I think we have a squad to potentially have more. Bryan is one of the best full back. Mawson could easily be the best centre back and Knockaert was one of the player of the season two years ago! That would make 6 top top championship players in our team! No excuse not finishing in the top 2.

the fact is, since the soviet union was dissected into umpteen smaller states, and Yugoslavia became at least four, there are so many teams now.in the 1960s and early 70s, nearly all lnternationals were played midweek , something you couldn't do now. .the only feasible way to stop so many unattractive fixtures would be to have a preliminary competition, featuring the lowest ranked 24 or so countries, and only let the winners compete in the main draw for the finals. we would never see san marino or Liechtenstein ever again, but do you really want to?

kunye: it is not easy understanding how our back four position themselves, so to be directly behind them sometimes must surely bring your knees knocking together. as for his distribution , well i thought the ball was being passed out now, instead of the long hoof down the middle, which always resulted in a 50-50 situation. you say you don't favour anyone else over betts, yet you appear really keen to install rodak. I have said so many times before that betts is the best choice, if jt changed I would be first to admit my error. I don't think at present its likely though.

You can blame Spurs for us not signing Hector before the deadline closed, as they were trying to knock back the amount that we wanted for Sessingnon. We couldn't sign Hector until we had the money for Ryan, but Spurs left it until the last minute, and therefore too late for us to sign him. Don't you just hate Spurs and for all that they stand for.

FulhamFC.com updated us with early september. We are now officially halfway through September and it has not started. Riverside stand delayed, two years won't happen. Groundshare back on.
Replies
riverside update; halfway through September? we are only six days into it!. if the groundshare rumour starts up again, please don't mention bentford or anywhere else for that matter. do we really need to have to move out while the stand is built?

Perhaps I am missing something, but I am sure I don't sit in the RS anymore, all of the seats have gone and there appears to be quite a lot of building/demolition machinery based at the ground. Therefore I have deduced from these subtle clues, that demolition has indeed started. Hope that puts your mind at rest!

Er, why would we have to groundshare that was never the intention during the development, but I digress...What did the sushi say to the bumble bee? Wasabi?

Lots going on behind the stand. Piling started already my guess is due to health and safety probably need to leave stand up for protection when they lower the pitch will be the hardest part I imagine.

3 years left on his contract, and he's playing well. We should be in the driving seat regarding Levy this time. Trouble is it will be easy to unsettle him. The two brothers are pretty close, and he will listen to Ryan for sure

there is no guarantee that ryan will become a first team regular right away, and may become unsettled. his brother is taking his first tentative steps in the first team here, and is nowhere near ready for a move to a premiership club. if ryan doesn't establish himself, he wont have too much good to tell steve. I think it is Tottenham just pushing their luck, and this time, it wont work.

Let's hope that Steve Sess can see his brother warming that Tottenham bench. I know Ryan is injured, but i seriously doubt that he would debut for Tottenham anytime soon. Ryan Kent is back in Scotland from Liverpool and i also think that if Lampard fails in his quest to win something with youngsters, all these big clubs will be more and more for experienced seasoned players. A few youngsters will always breakthrough, but our foreign managers tend to side with experience.

I would not be prepared to discuss any transfer involving steve with any other club at this point, or any other. as I have said so many times before, he is nowhere near the finished article, I don't share johns opinion about talking if spurs offer 10m we should talk. he needs more experience at this level, not in a development squad, in an empty stadium. somewhere a line needs to be drawn, and that applies to mr levy.

I realise that this is a football site, but can’t resist reminding those wanting to sack ‘traitors’ that we have failed to leave the EU due to the ERG’s failure to support the last government, who had an agreement in place to leave by the original date of 31 March. Had the Tories supported their then Leader, we would have already left, so please get off your high horse and accept that Boris Johnson is a lying, cheating, duplicitous charlatan, who has been humiliated because he is totally untrustworthy. By the way, I am a lifelong Tory supporter, but of the Ken Clarke, Rory Steward type, in other words, a one nation Tory

There is still, you’ll be glad to know, a Monster Raving Loony Party (google it up). and they sensibly point out that if we get Alec Stewart involved we wont actually need a back stop, along with Noel Edmonds negotiating (understands deal or no deal better than anyone). So we were keen to sign both Horton from Chelsea, and Gayle from Newcastle, as we viewed them as strengthening our squad. Looking at both sides, they are both struggling at the moment, and yet looking at both teams line ups, our so called saviours are not even included in either teams squad. Newcastle can't score, so why isn't Gayle playing, and Chelsea's defence is to say the least, dodgy. So where is Horton. Obviously these clubs don't rate these players, so why should we ?

Hi everyone,Ihave foowd Fulham for50 years. So have seen lots of change, not only at Fulman but in football too. I watch arsenal and Tottenham's game yesterday. What and who started this dam playing out from the back rubbish.even these teams with supposedly wonderful skilful players make it look like a kids game in Bishop Park. How many goal will be scored against teams before they wise up and stop this. Many thanks Manxman

Er' we just play the ball side to side, and back again, and again to Bettonelli who 'Slows' the tempo down even more, and then he gets booked!!! In the mean-time, Mitro, is picking his nose and thinking about Serbia and how many goals he will score. It's just like a Slavisa style but even less penetration. Not too despondent though, things can only get better as they say. Looking forward to us upping the tempo next game. Let's hope there are no injuries to our star players in the internationals.

I cannot fathom what is the point of having most of the possession like against Notts Forest and Cardiff and play negative. Most of the passing is backwards and side to side and I'm sorry in my book that's negative. I fully understand there are times to pass that way however, Fulham are taking it to extremes and quite frankly I find it boring, are we trying to put our opposition asleep. That is not the way to get promoted we need passing to be more direct at goal, in most games it is not producing more shots at goal that are effective. Lets play to win and be more aggressive in trying to score

If you have ever played football at any competitive standard, playing when your team does not have the ball if FAR more exhausting. Tire the opposition out and grab a winner against tired legs.
posted by Dan (Guest) - Monday 02nd September 2019, 12:31 PM

Up near the top in stats this season so far on shots. Yes Dan lot harder when you not got the ball. I’m happy so far but would like it mixed up a bit more at times. But no point just kicking it forward with everyone marked and you lose ball. Lots of teams dropping back which is hard to break down
posted by Badger (Guest) - Monday 02nd September 2019, 1:03 PM

Thought Betts kicking long down the middle into space against Cardiff worked on a couple of occasions because Mitro dropped back and left his man to collect the ball.

Won't work all the time of course and it would be just as boring but the sideways passing is a tactic to draw the opposition on and create space behind them.

It is only boring when you play against teams like Forest and Cardiff who allow you to have possession in your own half and defend a high line waiting for a break.

The game against Millwall where they sat back deeper was completely different yet we employed exactly the same tactic....Just saying ;0)).

After yesterday's results, who do you think our main challengers. Both Swansea and Charlton are. surprisingly sitting at the top of the table, neither team considered by the experts as promotion candidates, Leeds lose at home to Swansea and Notts Forest are held at home by PNE, after beating us, even QPR are on the same points as us after 6 games, which is another shock, and Derby have slipped right down the table. Cardiff are not out of it yet, and Bristol City are always capable of surprise win. With no outstanding teams apart from us, it's a very open season, and if we get our heads down, we really should have no challengers, but it's a funny old game. What do you think ?

Badger, I can assure you that I will be joining the moaner brigade, against either the Khan's or Scotty Parker, as I genuinely believe that they are doing the utmost to both play good football, and return us to the Premier League, and the money that the Khan's are investing in both the new stand, and the training grounds at Motspur Park, should prove that. Badger, and Doris, I do think that we have a top squad, but is it the be all and end all, to try to get back to the Premier League in just one season. Have you noticed where two of the three promoted clubs are sitting in the Premier League table at the moment, yes in the bottom three, and that's probably where they will stay for the rest of the season. I bet that at this moment, they wish that were back in the Championship, where they had a chance of winning matches. Last season for us, was a disaster, and I don't want to return to that gain, until we know that we have a squad to do a Wolves, although I see that they are struggling at the moment. Let's enjoy this season, as the best for me, it's so much better than being in the bottom three for all of the season, like the last one.

doris: its a bit unfair saying our three wins were against pretty ordinary opposition. millwall were playing well until they played us, and remember it took until the final few away games last season to record a win on the road.last season, we lost at Huddersfield, surely the win there must be looked upon as an improvement ? I know we are not the best team in the championship, but after last seasons debacle, every point should be accepted as a step in the right direction, whatever the quality of the opposition.

Zambo, as far as I can see the best placed team we have faced so far is Forest who are currently 10th so I think, on current form, the term pretty ordinary fits quite well. To be fair, it IS only 6 matches and a long way to go... but still.

Just watched match of the day commentators, suggest the injury to Laporte of Man City was caused by another member of the team not committing an earlier foul, or taking one for the team. Stats show that Liverpool and Man City are 1st and 3rd in fouling high up the pitch when pressing, with Arteta the Man City coach heard to say foul immediately possession is lost, to prevent a quick break, obviously yellow cards and bans do not affect the top clubs with large top quality squads. The offside law being changed to allow interpretation, interfering with play etc, penalties being checked with VAR does appear to be applied with consistency. Our once great game, was played with honesty, cheating is now the norm, the last thing we needed was these law changes, because the biggest teams are able to work an advantage much to the delight of the media who have a vested interest in their success. I remember Jimmy Langley tackling a winger at Craven Cottage, the winger broke his leg in the tangle Jimmy stayed on the floor and would'nt move consoling the man until the medics arrived. I did enjoy football then

Congratulations Denny for one of those increasingly rare occurrences, an intelligent observation on the decline and cynicism that is totalling ruining the game. So refreshing to read a sensible and relevant assessment, rather than the endless drivel regarding, sacking the manager, team selection, tactics, who we should sign etc etc. All after 6 games. We all have thoughts on what we would prefer to see, but hopefully most of the non posters( driven away by the lunatic brigade) exercise some restraint and realise , as do most 6 year olds, when they send Santa a wish list, for a whole host of reasons, it ain’t going to happen. I very much hope that you and the more lucid posters can increasingly address issues of importance rather than discussing pie in the sky issues of little or no real relevance. Leave it to the idiot faction to, Fiddle while Rome burns. Take that whatever way you want, all interpretations will have an element of truth and relevance.

Great post Denny and equally good reply Mortlake. I wonder how many times they change their fantasy teams? If we can sort out the mistakes and tempo (like Millwall game) we will be thereabouts at the season end. It’s almost as if some posters want us to play bad so they can try and out post each other and see who can post the longest written load of tosh. Parker is going to get it right but things take time, unlike the thoughtless crap that these self elected critics who are probably under the thumb at home and work put out.

Against Southampton, I thought Kev played at CB and did well in this role. Likewise, Rodak did enough to warrant a start against Cardiff. Bettinelli has a some sort of attitude problem, he seems to be an angry young man, confronting the supporters in the Forest game and again got involved in the Arter incident pushing and shoving. His all round performances have been suspect as well.

Everybody beats everybody, and that theory is sometimes correct in this league. The manner of our defeat to Forest is just too familiar for my liking and conceding to Cardiff is typical Fulham 2 years ago back with Slavisa. We don't seem to have moved on or learned anything much, and i argue that a Slavisa team had more of a cutting edge back then in the Championships. Slavisa in the prem was always on a hiding to nothing with our team set-up and with too many players that simply were not suited to Fulham. There is more of a thought process in our latest recruitment and there is a better balance within our set-up i agree, so why are we slipping back into old habits? Can Scott Parker and Stuart Gray carve out a new identity within this Fulham team? The recallment of Gray was maybe a comfort blanket for Scotty and i think that Parker and Gray will need to dig deeper and think harder and come up with a blue-print for a new identity. Every time we concede it is, 'we need a left-back and then a right-back, and maybe a holding midfielder or whatever. Joe Brian is great going forward and he is a threat, he does a good job but not so great defending. This would not be a problem if we can only inject more pace and penetration into our game. We have the artillary to do that and maybe we just need to work harder and be more prepared for each game and different challenges we meet. Neil Warnock is a wiley old fox and i was convinced that we would lose the game after the sending off. We didn't lose and maybe we can learn and push on to better things with this Fulham set-up. I am not too dispondant and i am very optimistic about our chances to succeed this season in our quest for promotion. My worry for Scotty is our up and down and indifferent results which is not what is required and how long can we allow this before a change is needed? Scott Parker and Co must come up with plan B's and plan Z's, if plan A isn't working and that means scoring more goals than we concede in my books. Then we can forgive our defensive discrepancies at the back. It would help our cause if we can work on keeping clean sheets winning ugly sometimes. The most important detail though, is finding a new way for Fulham, we need to step out of Slavisa's shadows. A Slavisa Fulham had more of a cutting edge! Scott Parker' we still support you and believe you can do it! So just go forth and do the business period!!!!!!!!!

You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. If you do answer and you don’t agree with Owen expect a reply that is full of capitals and exclamation marks. It’s Owens style that bothers posters on here. We must take into consideration that Owen is a Fulham fan and is only interested in what happens on the pitch, he never posts about FFP, new stand, Supporters trust comments,, tickets, FFC tv and anything else that is not player related.
