That was among our worse performances of the season, and yet we still managed to scrape a point from Arsenal. It was backs to the wall for most of the game, and if this game proved nothing else, it showed the great spirit within the team, to come away with something was quite brilliant.

Will Marco revert back to type and install his favourite son and heir Pereira back in his favoured role as number 8, which is deeper and carries more responsibility, has Pereira learned his role and can he deliver some accurate crosses and dead-ball free-kicks that we so much crave and desire from him. This will push Iwobi back out wide but still dangerous and effective because Iwobi is playing out of his skin but i can't help thinking that we should carry on from our good shuffle and things from the Brighton game Pheew!!! Arsenal will be dangerous, especially in set pieces but we have a strong defensive unit which no doubt will be busy and occupied for 90 minutes and more. Whatever we think of Traore and his not-so-accurate end product i feel that we will need his great pace which can deliver some decent assists. The more weapons we can muster against the Gunners the more Arteta will have to worry about and trust me we must give Arteta something extra to think about. Enter Smith Rowe into the equation and he must play against his old school and master who sadly did not have a place for him. The problem is Smith Rowe and form and in this moment Rowe is found lacking in creativity, guile and invention and a little short on pace, how do we get the best from him in this moment when we need him to fire rockets? Maybe further upfield and much closer to Muniz will reap dividends and i think Smith Rowe will and should need no encouragement to shine in this game, period! Muniz is a puzzle and we are not convinced of his striking prowess but i still think we should persevere with him, he is a tryer. There is no difference in Arsenal who will try to walk the ball through hoops and Muniz will do the same if he gets the nod over the misfiring Jimenez. Why worry yourself about Muniz or Jimenez who are not that prolific in the goal stakes anyway. This could play into Marco Silva's hands and Marco will work out and know how best to exploit it we like to think. Arteta will not have all things his way against a pacefull Fulham who where you will see the dynamic Robinson flying down the flanks and the in form Iwobi impress against his old club. We just need Smith Rowe to find a spark and light the fire and show Arteta what he is missing. This is a game for the neutrals and whatever the result it should be a cracking game. Which Fulham will turn up depends on Marco's game-plan and follow Marco's plan we must and this is how we can win...
Replies
You are right, as so far he and Smith Rowe are only two players who he has not got to play the way he wants them to play. Having been a senior manager myself I know some people who work for you need a lot of attention others always do their best as a matter of pride. It has taken several years to get the best out of Iwobi, Anderson played his best as soon as he put his Fulham shirt on.

We have a tough December starting with Arsenal and Liverpool and the only rest-bite is Southampton but then again it isn't a rest-bite because December 22nd is no holiday not just yet and the mince pies will have to wait and trust me, Marco Silva will want a performance and we assume that we will have nil poi against Arsenal and Liverpool so Southampton will have to be the fall guys and that's where my head space thinking is at the moment. Then again why worry youself? We are top 6 and perhaps heading for our best season ever in Fulham's history do we care or even bothered about taking a beating against Arsenal and Liverpool because at the end of the day we will get to our target and smash the record even with losses on our cv to Arsenal and Liverpool, Pheew!!!!! Santa Clause Marco Silva is not and he will want a performance and a possible win against every body in front of us and he would love to better his cv before he departs for pastures new they all do in the end don't they? This is why Marco will have a chat with our Arsenal loanee Reise Nelson about that little bit of a hesitation clear in on goal against Brighton, what was he thinking, shoot first and ask questions later Reise' don't think about it!!! I suspect that Marco will play all four from Arsenal from the get-go and that is a plan from an excellent mind and worthy of an oscar if we beat a Arsenal side that has perfected the art of ticky-tacky football that brings paydirt and success in walking the ball into the net. And by the way don't get me started on them corners which they do to a perfection but hey' we are not too shabby our-selves and we can spoil their Christmas and dreams of prem takeover from Man City, Arteta is so close and so near every season now. Reise Nelson is very quick and slick and he can pull a cracker and keep the prize if he pulls the trigger when opportunity knocks and he will get chances just like our star player Iwobi who we signed. Reise doesn't need that tag or label that Adama Traore carries in every game because it is unfortunate and frustrating when you are quick but have not much end product and what will it do for your career? If Reise Nelson wants a permanent contract with Fulham or any club he must score goals when the opportunity is open to him. Just a thought before the game against Arsenal... What a fantastic season we are having, where will it end?
Replies
Would like to say 'Adama Traore' we love you at Fulham and your contribution and assists are so very crucial and relevant to Fulham and we hope you stay here a long time...

We have a chance to beat Arsenal, Liverpool we never seem to beat but this Fulham team "can" beat anyone. Our games against Liverpool have gone from hammerings to tight defeats. Even a lucky draw would be better.

Owen, I have always been a great admirer of your prodigious output and fertile imagination which has enriched this board. However, you sometimes forget reality and stray into a different realm which tends to blur your vision. We both believe in the latent talent of our team which might, in due course, be harness to turn the Cottage into a fortress and Fulham a force to challenge for a European place. However, I digress, I just wish to point out that we cannot play all our ex Arsenal players and loanee as Nelson is injured and also not allowed to play against his parent club. I also take issue with you writing off our chances against Arsenal and Liverpool. Whilst logically both these teams will certainly start favourites to beat us, I am convinced we have the capability to give a good account of ourselves and provided we do not pay them too much respect, as we did against Brighton in the first half, then we may well surprise the pundits. Pray that Soothsayer goes with the crowd. After the Wolves game, when posters started baying for blood, I stated we would garner 55 points this season, finishing in the top half and beat Brighton. My confidence remains intact so no more negative thoughts my friend. In the meantime may I take this opportunity to wish you and the rest of our posters a wonderful Christmas which I trust you will enjoy in the company of your families and loved ones. Take care and enjoy.

Bigboy' i take on board your always excellent advice and good sound grounding for the likes of myself. I tend to drift into a different dimension of reality and i need sensible people like yourself to bring me back into the present. I totally forgot that Reise picked up an injury and he won't play etc. We Fulham are having a fantastic season and who knows how far we will go? The main fact is that we are picking up points nicely and there is no pressure so we can go out there and enjoy our football against the big boys which means that we can most likely pick up a win or maybe some draws along the way. I wish you and every fulham fan and team a merry Christmas and a happy new year my friend and keep up the good works and corrections in my post. This all helps me to get better...

Ref continually awarded Brighton with highly dubious decisions and very soft free kicks in the first half which gave them a big advantage. Oddly he improved significantly in the second period and we were subsequently able to outplay Brighton in the second half. Great performance from a depleted squad and great to see Josh come on and hold his own. Sorry to see Neilson go off, he was outstanding but did have a great chance to score however froze after beating 3 defenders with just the keeper to beat

What a player he is and i think 11 goals now and counting. If our strikers don't buck their ideas up Iwobi will be our top goal-scorer and well deserved from a player who plays with a smile and clearly enjoys his football. Muniz i know he didn't score and it is difficult for all strikers but he put himself about and played a part in the own goal. If you don't score, you put make yourself a nuisance and that is part and parcel of a striker's game, his time will come! We got to give Pereira some love in this circle and Marco rightly dropped him and he made a dent and made his mark in a game against a very good Brighton team who gave us some problems for different stages of the game but we defended well without Tete and Andersen to come back. We are top 6 and heading for dizzy heights and who knows where it will end. COME ON FULHAM!!!!!!!!!

I did not notice Pereira. I will watch the game on TV today and see what you spotted him doing. We scored from a dangerous corner but I assume it was not Pereira as his corners are not dangerous and we don't score from them.

You’re surely not being serious Owen. Pereira played in his usual, now you see me now you don’t manner. His corner was slightly more penetrative than usual, but only good fortune and Matt O’Reilly backside made it effective. Other than that his contribution was a big fat zero.
posted by Observer (Guest) - Friday 06th December 2024, 5:53 PM

I was being slightly sarcastic about Pereira's contribution but then again we should give him some love don't you think? His contribution was minimal but nevertheless, an assist which led to a goal. It's a start guy's and this is what we want from him isn't it? We have hard games coming up and we just need every assist and every little detail that will go in our favour, everything counts!

From a personal point a view I like the look of the team selection which I believe Marco has decided we must improve our scoring rate. The return of Muniz may be the key to unlocking Brighton’s defence as he has the strength and the ability to take advantage of crosses into the box. Wilson, at last, has been given a start which should provided skill and finishing power to the line up. I am optimistic we can defeat Brighton provided we believe in our ability which at times is lacking. Marco must convince the team the are excellent and can beat anyone if they c invert the chances created instead of doing something stupid when they have golden opportunities. Don’t let me down, be proud and show the fans you are the real deal.

Iwobi as an 8 is miles better than Pereira and finally got a chance to prove it. Even losing Nelson to a hamstring, it’s so much better to play with Wilson and Adama on the wings and leave Iwobi in CM. He and Berge did well as a pair.

Iwobi likely top scorer and one of Marco's top signings. Great team performance against a very good Brighton but tactically we are very good too. Marco Silva is proving a master tactician and we are a very well drilled slick team. No Andersen or Tete who was excellent against Spurs. How far can we go without a top striker and not many goals? I think Smith Rowe can do more and he must find ways of getting more involved in games, not enough from him but no doubt he will improve for games...

I am bemused by tonights game as Brighton looked a class act and dominated for long periods of the game with their crisp passing and harassing Fulham’s defence. Yet for all their pressure Brighton found themselves a goal down after just 4 minutes following a defensive mistake with Iwobi skilfully collecting the ball and calmly into the goal with the keeper stranded. Brighton struck a wonderful goal ten minutes into the second half which gave rise for concern. Suddenly, Fulham sprang to life and started to apply pressure. Following two substitutions, Pereira struck an excellent shot into the box which struck the back of our former outstanding Academy starlet, Matt O’Riley to restore our lead. Then Iwobi, our outstanding player, received an excellent ball from Robinson and appeared to glide pass four Brighton defenders and crashed the ball into the corner of the net. It was technically a wonderful crafted goal and brilliant close control when being surrounded by defenders. Three points plus three goals so I should not complain although I am sure the Brighton supporters will be wondering how it all happened. Perhaps I should not criticise but once again our passing leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps I am nit picking but we must learn to retain possession by passing to our own players. We are good but must be consistent and start on the front foot and not let the opposition dictate especially when we are the home team.

The thing that impressed me most is once they scored their equaliser we were inspired to win the game and played a very good team off the pitch. It take very good strenght and mentality to react that way and can only have been inspired by Marco's way of managing. After our fluke first goal it looked as if we were going overrun but we defended brillently and turned it around in the second half and had Brighton on thr run. A very special performance.

You have to take that with adama. His other skills out weigh that. Iwobi has his moments too

The game has changed you cannot have defensive passenger as everyone in a team these days attacks and defends. In a game he does exciting things but at times looks out of his depth. A player who does not score, does have many assists and does not defend is luxury most teams cannot afford. He is a crowd pleaser but that is not enough. Last night the brilliant people on the pitch were our defence and their support who kept us in the game. It was not pretty but it was amazing.

Fulham TV can only show a Fulham match if it is not being shown live anywhere in the World. In the USA every Premier League match is shown live by some channel or other. In the Championship it is very different, it is difficult to find anybody other than Fulham that wants to show our games. Your subscription pays for for Jim's vocal commentary and a full Fulham TV match reply which is worth having.

I really hope we have a striker in mind for the January transfer window. And we can’t wait until 31st Jan as we usually do. We have to get someone in from the 1st. I don’t mind if it’s Ferguson from Brighton but ideally someone permanent. We don’t need a in form striker as Marco can do his man management magic. I really think our season will be defined if we can get a quality striker in. If there’s a club prepare to buy Muniz - we should sell. He doesn’t have the technical quality that we need for the team. Raul has an abundance of it but he’s a bit slow now and when our ex Arsenal guys pinging the ball around in the opposition third, he isn’t quick enough. He can score great goals but only occasionally. Imagine if we had a Mitro. Ok he’s not quick but he can just change around the goal and simply score. Com’on Marco -time to accept Muniz will never, or at least for a few more years, be the player you wanted him to be.
Replies
Our buying department seem to be excellent, but finding a striker more proficient than the ones we have is very difficult. Most contracts run out in June so buying in January is very expensive, as the law of supply and demand that nearly always works says a shortage of supply mean a considerable increase in price.

Wolves who beat us, a very embarrassing 1-4, will have lost the following 3 games, after this evenings matches, and could well be relegated. The question is, how the hell, did we lose to this bunch of no hopers ? It is so infuriating, to say the least.

The Wolves defeat, is the one result that I really hate this season, and it will probably cost us a top 10 respectable place in the table. With two very hard fixtures coming up this week, with Liverpool away to follow, which could be two defeats, then probably three, that Wolves result could prove decisive, as we could be slipping down among the strugglers, and quite undeservedly so, before Christmas. All of the seasons hard work, thrown away, in that one game.

We lost to Wolves because the few times we allowed them to attack they hammered the ball into the net. You get such games it does not makes us a bad team. If we beat Brighton tonight we shoot up the table. Beating Liverpool will be difficult, but not impossible. Do not give up hope yet as we are a very good team who can beat anyone and loose to anyone.

Don’t quite work that way it’s ifs and buts beat Brighton get a result of sorts against the arsenal ( beat them last year at ffc 4 point buffer other teams have to get results as well next three games ( look on bright side 10 points between us and bottom three effectively 4 games they have to make up still think we will go up the league rather than down in the coming weeks

Chelsea have lots of players who are not good enough or fit enough to be in their squad. Chelsea are no better than us, so any player that is not good enough or fit enough to be in their squad is not good enough to be in our squad. What I am trying to say do not take any Chelsea players on loan as they are useless.

League football is different to an away day. Used to go to PSG games when I lived in Paris and they were in St Germain and skint, Went to Utrecht and Feyenoord when I stayed in Netherlands, then tried to alternate between Genk and Schalke when I worked in Wallonie for a while. All dirt cheap, terraces if you want to stand, cheap beer, better food and great atmosphere. TV money and foreign owners have done the English game no favours.

You have to admire the dertimination which Fulham now play with. No matter which team we are up against, there is always good fighting spirit throughout the team we cannot fault them for that. I don't think we missed Andreas on Saturday, the Spurs game would have suited him and I was very pleased with Luckic and Berger playing deep in front of the defence. Good tactics Marco. Diop made a couple of mistakes by giving the ball away but geneally he stepped up and produced a solid back line with Bassey. Yep, and we all agree we are still lacking a good number 9 striker.
Replies
Our Mexican striker has all the instincts of a striker and gets in the place the ball is going to come and those chances he missed were created by him. Another striker may be able to finish better but my not be as good as at getting in to space or realising where the ball is going to arrive. When Cairney was sent off against Spurs we took off our two attacking midfielders and brought on two defenders. Which meant we had 6 defenders and 2 defensive midfielders and 2 up front. We still nearly scored in that period because the players if they see an escape from defence they will take. Even in a defensive situation we still want to attack which must be an attitude instilled into them by Marco. Lots of other player in other teams miss chances, this is caused by pressure which is a dilemma for the manger, as he want them to feel the pressure without this affecting the accuracy of their play. Marco is inspiring the team to play very well.

TTIN' It is a great talent when a striker can find the gaps and create chances to score goals but what should we do, give him a meddle? Sorry to be so harsh but only the finish and goals count and we are running into a catalogue of tough games to come! Believe it or not i feel sorry for Muniz who gets all the flack and he isn't even on the pitch. We know they both are not brilliant but now is the time to swop Jimenez for Muniz now and give Muniz a run of 6 games or so. Maybe Jimenez is the smarter because he gets into those spaces and creates chances but i think maybe Muniz has rested big-time and now ready and raring to go, he might just take off with goals. The January window is not a million miles away and i am sure Marco is looking at the situation so i wouldn't worry. No goals from misfiring strikers. Heads will roll!!!

I was praising Jiménez for what he does, not criticising him for what he does wrong, which was self evident from the Spurs match. Mitro used to miss a number of chances before he scored, but Jiménez misses a lot before he does not score again. I agree it is time to give Muniz a try again but he has been at the club for a good time now and if he was going to become a consistent scorer he should have done by now as should Jiménez have become a consistent scorer again by now if he was going to. Unless we are going to be lucky enough to find a consistent striker in the January window we must rely on our midfielders to score most of our goals, so we must make sure the midfielders we play can do that.

The game turned out very much as I expected but was disappointed by our poor start which nearly resulted in disaster. Fulham needed a strong start to upset a suspect defence but instead we were sluggish for the first ten minutes when we needed to apply pressure. After that we tended to dominate the play and Forster kept Spurs in the game with two excellent saves. Then we switched off and a quick break, plus an excellent cross for Johnson to hammer the ball home. Cairney scored a cracking equaliser only to be sent off 15 minutes later following the VAR intervention. The Fulham players stuck to their task with Wilson almost grabbing a winning goal due to his awareness. Once again the referee appeared to lose track of the time and the four added minutes turned into nine minutes which has happened three times this season. Personally, I would like for a klaxon to be sound at the end of the added time as some referees are playing far in excess of the allotted time. The failure to start with Wilson was an error as he would have caused panic in a shaky Spurs defence. On balance I consider we were unlucky not to collect three points today and all credit to the players for their endeavours on a beastly afternoon.
Replies
Maybe i am a bit hard on the lads but i genuinely think we could and should have won today. We are still gifting mistakes to a sluggish Spurs who might have done better, especially Son who was gifted two golden chances which 9/10 he wouldn't miss. I don't know why we do these errors and maybe it comes with our Fulhamish traits that we don't seem able to vanquish. If we can seriously cut out those mistakes in misplace passing we could easily be up further in the table. Good teams will capitalize on our obvious weaknesses and Spurs were off the pace today because of Europe, just saying and bare that in mind. None of our strikers are great and we know that and should accept it for what it is but i agree with the few that say Muniz is the one that would be the better option on this pitch today. Yes' Jimenez for penalties but Muniz is a confident boy too at taking them. At the start of the season Muniz was the chosen one that had the game-time without scoring too many. Now is the time to take Jimenez out of the action because i think he is missing too many good chances. Against Wolves from a Robinson pass for 2-0 up he missed and we paid the price. Today i think he was worse, terrible! Jimenez works his way into those spaces every striker wants but regretfully he is found lacking in his finish too many times. This is a concern and Marco needs to think about this...

We did enough for the win but spurned all our good chances. Jimenez had all the best of them but pitifully wasted them. I don't know what happened to Smith Rowe in this one, he looked a bit off and just not connected to the game and players around him. Our biggest problem is the gifting and mistakes that might have seen Tottenham away and out of sight with those chances we give them especially in the first half. We show plenty enough ability and have plenty enough chances to beat Spurs after their Euro campaign but sadly we let ourselves down time and again. Maybe our away kit needs a change? We look like Bournemouth in that setup...

Having returned from 30C to wet and cold Gatwick at 7.30am this morning I fully expect the game this afternoon to be adversely affected by the weather conditions. Errors can easily be made due to passes being under hit, mistimed tackles and the ball skidding on the wet surface. I am reminded of our late maestro Haynes who was brilliant whatever the conditions during the 50/60’s spraying passes over all distances as opposed to the present crop of players who are seldom accurate over 10 yards. This game against Spurs will be difficult and I hope that Wilson is included in the starting line up. We must attack from the outset as Spurs normally take time to settle into their stride. Spurs will start as favourites and the home record against us is extremely impressive. However, last weekend Las Palmas beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp 2-1 for the first time in 53 years so hope springs eternal.

The eye test and the numbers don’t always agree. But with Andreas, they do. Andreas’ defensive statistics are pitiful — ground duels, aerial duels, dribbled past. All below the 50th percentile, many in the bottom third. His passing statistics are awful too. Completion percentage especially. We already know his scoring and assists are pathetic given his minutes. All in all, it’s clear we are winning and performing despite Andreas. It’s time for Iwobi as the 8 so Adama can beat the Spurs high line.
Replies
Andreas is lazy and Silva is trying to accommodate both S-R and Andreas and he shouldn’t. Happy for him to ditch Andreas. Additionally his set plays are awful.

It makes me wonder at times, as to what standard we are in the Premier League. Today, Wolves who put 4 goals into our net last Saturday, concede 4 goals at home, to Bournemouth, who are no more than moderate, so doesn't that just show that we are probably not as good as most of us, thought that we were. Luckily we are not relegation candidates, but we are slowly slipping down the table, and what is even more humiliating, is that a dreadful team like Brentford are sitting above is in the table, and they are a side, that just can't find an away win. Let's not kid ourselves, our next few fixtures, involve teams that we will find it difficult to pick up many, if any points, especially without Andersen, so by the time we reach Christmas, we might have slipped into the bottom 8. Not worrying, but an overall dissapoinment, after the way our season started.

Must agree with you there Brian. We had a good result, but no need to Gloat, as the team we beat is in The relocation zone,so there nothing Wonderfull in beating them.

Yes Brian we are that good of a team and if AP put 1/3 of the free kick/corners and pens away, he'd be away but because he hasn't we are where we are. We have been playing with 10 men since the start of the season. He is marcos man but after what has happened and what he has treated this club like if he doesn't up his game he can go back to manure

It's a strange season in a way and we can't really say how strong or weak any team might be. Who would have predicted a win for Ipswich against Spurs and then Spurs going on to beat Man City 4-1. I remember us struggling to beat Ipswich and some fans summing up our vulnerability and how weak we are. Forest beating Liverpool and yet we beat Forest etc etc. Even a summing up of our players being strong or weak is not always correct. For instance if Jimenez scores 2 and we beat Spurs tomorrow we shouldn't be that surprised. Then again, if we lose it would be no surprise and we can say that Spurs should win on recent form who knows? One thing is certain and the fact is playing in Europe takes the edge of you and if Marco can get his tactics right and we play up to our best form we have a great chance but that depends on players like Jimenez taking their chances and we do get them in most games but we spurn them.

I am of the opinion, that we are at the moment, just a decent Premier League side, with still quite a long way to go, before we are a very good Premier League side. Reluctantly we are on a par, with other decent sides like Brighton, Brentford, Forest and Newcastle, but far better than any of the bottom 7 teams in this division, and I would even include Manchester Utd in that batch. Unfortunately, we are far, far better than West Ham, Wolves, and Everton, but annoyingly, we threw away points against all of them, hence, we still have a fairly long way to go, before we can progress, but we will get there eventually, it's just a matter of time and patience, so it will be, a win some, lose some season, but maybe this is our turn now for a good FA cup run.

Have the advantage, more than a days rest, Gain an advantage, you name it, you all get my drift. They have their big boys out there tonight and as far as i am concerned, they should be more tired than us Sunday. If Marco is smart, he should put out the strongest and paceyest side we can muster out there and blitz Spurs. The question is, what is our strongest side which is up for debate? If we play silly sausage like we did against Wolves thats including giving away the ball and playing fancy-dan, we will lose by a cricket score. We are more than capable of keep-ball possession and we have to get back to this and show more conviction and decisiveness in front of goal. I can't put it any better than that...

Once again a substantial number of posters are making inane comments concerning the future prospects for our team. Kew Tip even suggesting we could be relegated. I am no Soothsayer but at least my past record has been fairly accurate especially my comments after Mitrovic left. Provided Marco has learnt a lesson from the Wolves debacle. Whether the departure of Boa Morte is affecting his judgement remains to be seen. In my opinion, Marco needs to tighten and defence and get players to ensure they make better use of the ball and stop passing consistently giving the ball to the opposition. The lack of goals has been our downfall time and time again and as I previously mentioned we should start with Wilson playing as a false centre forward. Wilson is on a hot streak at the moment which justifies his inclusion in the team. Pereira must be rested as he contributes little and achieves nothing which most of us have been saying week in and week out. Despite these misgivings I fully expect us to finish in the top ten garnering in excess of 50 points. Changes need to be made now and Marco must accept that he must accept that despite dominating possession we are not getting the end result.
Replies
One word i was looking for is 'lackadaisical' and giving the ball away to a Wolves who were desperate and determined for a win, we didn't do ourselves any favours. Some say that the international breaks have a negative impact on our game and we are simply out of sorts. The sort of domination and possession we displayed in the first half hour is and should be enough to take control of the game but we cannot do that if we don't capitalize and nail our good chances in games. A one-nil lead is never one to depend on and somehow we must take our chances going forward into future games. Some players are just more lucky than others and i just wonder if we should put Sessegnon into the mix along with Wilson for a change? Pereira is not a lucky player and none of his crosses or dead-ball free kicks do anything. We have Iwobi who is fantastic but we need more players to step up. We will have chances against Spurs Sunday but we will lose the game proper if we don't take our chances.

When Cairney comes on a sub and start putting proper crosses the danger they cause are so obvious. The man who is tasked with making all our dead ball kicks is worse than one of our subs, something is wrong. Hope we were not tricked into one of these contracts where a player must start each game he is not injured, sick or suspended.

Hull City have just sacked head coach Tim Walter after just 17 league games in charge, with the team in the Championship relegation zone. Last year Hull finished seventh in the Championship and previous manager Liam Rosenior was sacked after not reaching the play-offs, despite being nominated for the Championship's manager of the year award. When appointing Tim Walter the Chairman said ‘Tim was always our first choice. We had many strong applicants and wanted to be thorough in our recruitment process, but it quickly became clear that Tim was the outstanding candidate …’ Walter was given a three-year deal. The Chairman also acknowledged that their transfer policy hadn’t been successful, and the team was short but …. the manager was sacked anyway. How do people like this get to be Chairmen and run football clubs? Don’t they feel they should step down too?

How many times do we have to state the obvious. One goal is seldom sufficient to win a game and how many times have we scorned Gilt Edged chances to ensure victory. The virtual open goal miss by Jimenez was a typical example of our inability to put the ball in the net. In addition, we continually give the ball to the opposition which only spells trouble for our defence. Pereira should be dropped as he is not contributing apart from entering the Guinness Book of Records for the highest number of set pieces from which we have failed to score. As far as I am concerned, yesterday was three points gifted to Wolves due to our inability to take our chances. .

Agreed big boy, at these levels of football, the complete lack of set piece goals is unacceptable. How many times are games won with a set piece. We even miss penalties. Marco often says we play our way, does this not include trying to limit the opposistion's best players having free rein. Top players can score from 25 yards into corners if not challenged, Lemina was given space and time to pick a pass for Cunha. Watch match of the day if you want to see these two players excelling week after week for Wolves. Spurs next, presumably we will play our way, lets hope Maddison is'nt given the freedom to play like Cunha was. Seem to remember Brentford scoring with player in acres of space from distance. Berg and Lukic pairing needed, to compete. We have been sussed, to many no 10's. not working back.

We have some midfielders in the midfield who can score, apart from the Brazilian one who plays every game. We have three strikers who do not consistently score goals and if we are lucky enough to find an affordable on in the January window all well and good. On course the chance of finding a cheap consistent striker in January is remote so do not moan if we do not get one as there seems to be a World wide shortage.

Manchester City have all the best players but at the moment they cannot beat anyone. We are far from having the best players but are playing a moment as if we do. Yesterdays match was a fluke as virtually every mistake we made resulted in Wolves creating a chance and scoring four times. You have to accept such things happen. We can beat anyone and loose to anyone that is why I have no worries about our next three games as we can beat anyone, and loose to anyone. I am more worried when we play Southampton as unless we treat them as a top team we will loose horribly like we did against Wolves.

We lost he game and no fluke. The last goal is typical of what happens when you push for a goal and they catch us on the counter which is bog standard when you are down to ten men. The game now is not only pitch side and Gary O'Neil works out and counters what we do in subbing from his i-pad and this is the game of football now. Personally i think Lemina stands out head and shoulders as their best player and we were stupid to get rid of him. Lemina was a record 18 million signing for Southampton back in the day and he was always rated a very good player. If i remember righty, Tony Khan rated him highly and spoke very good of him. Somehow between the Parker era to Marco we shipped out a lot of players surplus to requirement and Lemina i think was one of them. It was one of those days when you see a certain chance blown by Jimenez to go two up. I just felt then that wasn't going to be our day, you just get that feeling and days sometimes. Sorry to keep comparing Lemina but i look around our squad and midfield and i question if we have anybody as good as him in the position he plays? It sure looks like we need to recruit again...

At the moment I feel that it is Liverpool, who have the best players. Some of the City players are creaking at the seems. As for us, we have probably nearly the best side that we have ever had, in the Premier League, but even then we are just above the ordinary, compared with the likes of Newcastle, Spurs and Brighton, our next two opponents. Relegation is off the radar, but a disappointing bottom 10 finish, is still quite a possibility.

We will all be grateful for that late save against Brentford, which gave us the chance to grab those late unforgettable goals. Watching the highlights of yesterday's game however, I had the impression, that he could have done a bit better in trying to stop a couple of Wolves goals, especially the first one. Wolves have beaten us twice now in the last two games played and one name that boggles my mind is Mario Lemina who we signed with Harrison Reed way back in 2019. We let Lemina go and we still have H Reed who is okay but not outstanding but life is what it is. Lemina is the stand out in the Wolves team and he showed his experience today and always for Wolves and sadly we don't quite have the quality of what Lemina does on the pitch defensively, forward, and passing. H Reed isn't up to that level, Cairney can pass a ball but not the strength of Lemina. Lukic can do it in patches but not always consistent or up to speed. Berge is decent at passing a ball and reasonably good at getting around the pitch but does not possess the all round attributes that Lemina shows out there and this is our problem at the moment, we are lacking the extra quality we lost in midfield and no amount of patchwork can solve this problem. Marco and tactics didn't work today because Wolves and manager quickly worked out our tactics in every time and moments when we made changes which is not good considering we categorise Wolves in a lower prem level. Lookman we can forget because he did not fit Fulham and Josh Maja was too much of a slow burner in the prem but top man in the Championship. Lemina was the one signing we should have kept and now we will be looking again when the window comes around. Wolves have truly exposed our failings after our dream start and now we go into tougher games. Food for thought everybody...

It was a strange game yesterday, and who knows if that shocking miss early from Rual, had opened the scoring, if it would have been a different result, but he didn't, and it wasn't. For some reason we find Wolves hard to overcome, with only the an odd win for us. I have been up to there place on many occasions, and only seen us get one point, way back. I hope that this knock back doesn't knock us off course, which might see us sliding down the table, but with Spurs and Brighton on the horizon, we might find getting back to winning ways quite difficult, although trying to forecast results this season seems more tricky then ever. Spurs losing at home to Ipswich, then winning 4-0 at City, is a case in point. Who honestly saw those results coming ? That's football, and the reason we all love it.

Very true Owen. Lamina was solid yesterday and played in defence. My question is this, when was the last time a youth player came through the ranks and established himself in the fist team and stayed with the club for more than a couple of seasons? We can definitely do with improving in that area of the club, as many of our players are 28 or over.

The goals from Wolves if they had been that accurate and powerful all season they would be top of the League. We gave the ball away a great deal and presented them with chances but they took a lot of them. We also were over confident, assuming we would beat them easily by constant attacking, we created very little however.

Wolves took advantages of our mistakes. Overconfidence has something to do with it. We played our usual game but it does work when you play it badly.

Listening to the commentary and allowing for Jim’s bias I did think we were in control early on. So I wonder what did or rather did not happen? I guess the absence of a genuine goal scorer must be the serious limiting factor. We definitely seem to make chances but fail to convert them on a regular basis. That’s the first issue that surely has to be addressed. The other is the question of Pereira. Many of us have been saving for months that he needs to be benched, his contributions are extremely limited. He needs a serious reset. I note even Owen is getting worked up. I have suggested Reed in his stead but that’s not an option now. The other real problem has to be our total failure to score from a single set piece all season. What is it 120/150 could be bloody 500.? Peirera at fault but so must the manager and the other players, what exactly do they do down Motspur Park? Can’t believe we’re still in the top half, must be a really poor season. Liverpool apart, 5 points cover the next dozen places!
