Former England and Fulham boss Kevin Keegan has been confirmed as Manchester City's new manager.

Keegan resigned as England manager in October after the Wembley World Cup qualifying defeat by Germany and has been out of work ever since. He will replace Joe Royle, who was sacked on Monday after City's relegation from the Premiership.

City chairman David Bernstein is apparently keen to confirm the appointment at a fans' forum at Maine Road's Millennium Suite on Thursday.

Keegan has also managed English clubs Newcastle United and Fulham. He led Newcastle from the lower reaches of the First Division to the brink of the Premiership title in 1996. He also helped Fulham from the Second Division to the First in 1999 before leaving in mid-contract to be England Manager.

Keegan has always felt confident of his abilities at club level, though he walked away from the England job after admitting that he was not tactically aware enough for the post.
