Fulham to play at Loftus Road next season

last updated Tuesday 15th April 2003, 10:43 PM
Fulham have confirmed that they will play their home games at Loftus Road for another season.

They vacated Craven Cottage for this campaign as part of their plans to build a new stadium on the site.

However, the initial scheme was scrapped because it was not deemed financially viable, although the club insist they are still looking at ways to return to their home on the banks of the Thames.

The club are also intent on negotiating with Chelsea to share Stamford Bridge if they are unable to go back to the Cottage.

A statement on the club's official website read:

As stated in the Chairman's letter to Season Ticket holders earlier this month, the Club can now officially announce that it will be playing at Loftus Road for one further season during 2003/2004.

At present the Club is actively trying to find ways of developing a more cost efficient stadium on the Craven Cottage site whilst negotiations take place with Chelsea regarding a temporary ground share arrangement, should this not prove possible (subject to planning permission being granted and a satisfactory conclusion to negotiations with Chelsea).

Whilst these investigations and negotiations take place the Club will continue to explore the potential of other sites within the Borough.

As and when a final decision is reached regarding the future, it will of course be announced to the fans on this official site.
