Fulham has finally been been joined in the 5th
round of the 2002 F.A. Cup by the team that plays at Fulham Broadway and as
all the 4th round games have now been completed 5th round games can commence
on time on the 16th February. The Fulham Broadway team won their 4th round replay away
at West Ham on Wednesday evening 3-2 with a very late goal after having gone
behind twice.
Fulham themselves had done just enough at York to make the 5th round draw of
the 2002 F.A. Cup, with a goal from Steed Malbranque and Steve Marley in each
half meant Fulham headed home to London 2-0 winners.
The 5th round draw produced another away draw for Fulham, but there was some
compensation in that it was again with lower league opposition, this time in
the shape of Division One Walsall. Certainly on form we should be able to beat
Walsall who, despite their defeat of Charlton at the Valley in the 4th round,
have just 8 victories out of 32 games so far this season. It has to be said
that 7 of those victories were at home where Walsall is more able to get a result.
Historically Fulham have lost just 3 times in 15 visits to Walsall.
After the defeat at Charlton Walsall's new Manager Colin Lee said that
he believes he can use the Fulham game as part of his team motivation. He said
"We have very important league games coming up and I am sure every player
will want to play against Fulham, so they will have to perform to earn their
shirts." Best of luck Colin.
Other Cup games
Of the 16 teams still in the F. A. Cup competition 8 are Premier league clubs
and 6 of the 8 have been drawn against lower league opposition, 5 of those Premiership
clubs have home draws. Middlesbrough versus Blackburn will see one Premiership
club go out of the Cup. Excluding any unforeseeable Cup upsets the quarterfinals
should be contested between, Arsenal, chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Middlesbrough,
Newcastle, Tottenham and West Brom. With a bit of luck we will win and get West
Brom or Middlesbrough at the Cottage.
