Boss' pledge for the future

Jean Tigana has vowed to turn Fulham into a factory for producing talented young stars of the future. Club chairman Mohammed Al Fayed has told Tigana he can spend any amount he likes to get Fulham into the Premiership, and he has this week been linked with a £1.5million bid to sign Tottenham's Les Ferdinand.

But Tigana wants to do it a different way. He said: "It is good that I have the money to sign new players, but in the long term my aim is to build the club in every area, not just the senior team. "Youth development is very important, as we have shown at national level in France over the last decade.

"I shall be working very hard on that side of the club at Fulham and I will not be afraid to put younger players into the first team. I like a mixture of youth and experience.

"It may take a little while for everything to come together as I would like, but we have made a good start and it does not worry me that we are among the favourites to win promotion - that is my aim and that is what everyone at the club is working towards."
