The Super Whites' second eleven failed to impress when given their chance against Northampton and lost 1-0. However they were not the only surprises of the Worthington Cup evening with Huddersfield, Preston, Stockport and Wolves going down by one goal while Blackburn and Watford drew against lower division opposition. Birmingham and Sheffield United were the only 1st Division clubs to impress with 5 and 6 goals respectively
