Arsene Wenger's need for a defensive-minded player - either a defender or a defensive midfielder - is something that ten other managers are also desiring, claimed the Frenchman recently, but the Arsenal boss will not be adding Fulham's impressive centre back Brede Hangeland to his red-and-white ranks.
"We are not on this [Hangeland's] case," Wenger said when asked if the club's interest in the Norwegian international was still real.
Arsenal have been linked with a plethora of players since the inception of the current transfer window, but have thus far only bought Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen, who has looked impressive in the few games that he has featured in.
A move for the club's former talismanic midfielder and captain, Patrick Vieira, had also been mooted, but the rumours of bringing the Inter-man back to N5 have since died down.
Meanwhile, speculation involving Ligue 1 players - as has been tradition during Arsene Wenger's Arsenal tenure - continues to dominate the Gunners' transfer stories, with Marouane Chamakh, Mamadou Sakho, and Blaise Matuidi all linked with a trip to the Emirates, but none have so far seen a move materialise.
