Birmingham's new record signing, Geoff Horsfield, has revealed
the surprise reason behind the decision of Fulham's new manager,
Jean Tigana, to sell him to City for £2.25 million earlier this
week.
To the surprise of 26-year-old Yorkshireman Horsfield, Tigana
told him that he felt his style was simply too aggressive for
the style of play that Tigana is planning to use at Craven Cottage
next season. That came as a shock to Horsfield who believes that
Tigana could be in for a bit of a culture shock next season if
he does not believe that you don't need a bit of aggression in
the First Division.
Horsfield, who has cost Birmingham an initial £2 million with
a further £250,000 to be paid once he has played 30 games, said:
"Jean Tigana said that I was too aggressive for his style of play
which I find very surprising. I think he will find in games next
season that you need some aggression in the side.
I am a little bit disappointed leaving Fulham as I have left some
good friends down there. But this is a new start for me and this
really is a massive club and hopefully we can get into the Premiership."
The one-time bricklayer added: "I have played at every level in
football and at the top is where I want to be. The move to Birmingham
excites me and I believe I can help them to get into the Premiership."
