| Maik Taylor |
The reason why Maik Taylor was keen to join Birmingham City became clearer today when the Blue's manager Steve Bruce revealed he had guaranteed Maik Taylor a starting place when he signed the keeper on loan from Fulham.
Fulham's Dutch International keeper Edwin van der Sar had been confirmed in the first team keeper position leaving Taylor alooking at another season of reserve football. Taylor had been keen to get regular first team football and had stated previously that he would be prepared to leave The Cottagers to achieve his aim.
Northern Ireland international Taylor joined Blues on a season-long loan deal with a view to a £1.5 million move at the end of the season, if Birmingham are still in the Premiership, and was put straight into the team, keeping a clean sheet on his debut against Tottenham.
The long-serving Birmingham keeper Bennett, who signed a new contract in the summer, was demoted to the bench.
Bruce told the club's official website that, 'when I met Maik Taylor the one thing I had to do was guarantee him a start to bring him here.
