Boston United, minus player/coach Paul Gascoigne, have reached the second round of Carling Cup after an entertaining extra time 4-3 win over Luton Town at York Street.
Substitute Lee Thompson scored the winner in extra time to set up a home tie with Premiership outfit Fulham for Steve Evans's side.
It was The Pilgrims who took the lead into half time after Courtney Pitt took possession of Tom Bennett's corner before striking a deflected shot past Marlon Beresford for 1-0.
The second half saw Boston's Jason Lee go from York Street villain to hero in a matter of five minutes.
Lee handed Mike Newell's side an equaliser seven minutes after the break before turning around and scoring at the right end with a header five minutes later.
The Hatters, however, would restore parity with 13 minutes remaining Kevin Nicholls converted his spot kick home after Boston's Mark Greaves had brought down Luton's on loan striker Rowan Vine.
Injury time then saw two substitutes add goals to the tally on the evening, with Thompson looking to have taken the tie for the home side.
However, Luton had enough time to roar up the other end of the pitch to level again through Enoch Showunmi to take the contest into extra time.
Despite being forced to the extra half hour of football, Boston took the lead for the fourth time in the match when Thompson scored his second goal in a matter of minutes.
The result takes the Lincolnshire-based outfit into the second round of the competition for the first time in their brief Football League history.
