Gallagher to ref Fulham on Wednesday

last updated Tuesday 24th August 2004, 9:42 AM
Dermot Gallagher(Banbury, Oxon)
Dermot Gallagher is a Premier League veteran, having established himself on the country's top referee list back in 1992. He made the FIFA roster two years later in 1994. Gallagher is one of the few top referees that actually earns a living through football, albeit at a lower level. The 42-year-old Banbury resident is commercial manager for non-league Thame United.

He began refereeing in the Banbury Junior League back in 1978 and progressed remarkably quickly through the ranks, becoming a Football League linesman in 1985. Gallagher's career highlight so far was taking charge of the 1996 FA Cup Final - the year he also officiated at the African Cup-Winners Cup final and the Euro '96 tournament.

Regarded by most Football fans as one of the better Ref's.

Referee Stats - 2003/2004
Ref Gallagher's figures indicate that he whistles some 11% less than the average Premiership Ref and also dishes out 11% less yellows. After getting into trouble over not being tough enough with Robbie Keane Mr Gallagher went over the top in the 2002/2003 season dishing out 23% more yellows than the average. His figures this last season indicate that he may be a bit glad that his boss got the chop as he eased up again.

Ref Gallagher is one of the most even handed ref's you can get with just a marginal yellow card bias against home squads, which may not be much help against Middlesbrough.
