Steven Davis has been told he will prove a success for Fulham, regardless of what happens when he returns to former club Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Northern Ireland international joined Fulham for £4m over the summer, and manager Lawrie Sanchez believes he will become a major part of the west London club's future.
Davis found it difficult to break into Martin O'Neill's line-up at the end of last season, but his new manager believes he has landed one of the summer's best signings.
Sanchez said: "Steve was Player of the Year at Aston Villa two years ago, in his first full season. I don't think he has anything to prove, although as a player you probably think you do have something to prove after you leave.
"Steve could have stayed there and fought for his place, and I think we were fortunate to get him for a decent price.
"Longer term he will prove to be a great asset for Fulham. Once his feet are under the table he will be in our midfield for many years to come."
