Fulham star Jimmy Bullard today revealed the latest news about his recovery from the serious knee injury he received in a tackle from Scott Parker last season.
Its going brilliantly to be honest. Ive added the football and this week Ive just started side footing the ball and doing volleys. Ive also been doing a lot of lateral work, around the cones, hurdles, changing directions, right, left, everything really.
Ive stepped up the running with 25 minute runs at three quarter pace with a heart rate monitor so I dont drop below a certain level. Ive also been doing 200m runs and 100m runs at 80% pace which is good for the knee.
All the muscles around the knee are stronger and Im relying more on the muscles and ligaments with my injury now. All through my career Ive got to keep my muscles in shape around my knee. Im well on schedule and I feel great doing all the twists and turns and Ive not had any hiccups since I got back from America to be honest.
Dr. Steadman filled me with great confidence when I went over there. The first thing he said is its a great knee to what it was and he said it looked superb he was well happy with it. He said the knee was strong enough and it was just tight. He was spot on and it seems to be absolutely brilliant. I didnt imagine doing this twisting and turning two months ago its amazing how your body gets over things. Its a case of building it up nice and slowly.
Jimmy has been keeping an eye on the first team squad, despite his training being on the periphery of Lawrie Sanchez' first team sessions, and is delighted with the Manager's recent signings.
Weve got seven great signings and the gaffers done quality. Hes brought in good players that are hungry and want to do it and I cant wait to see them play and get the League underway because the boys seem ready for it. Theres a new feel around the place with fresh minds and legs.
It was a bit disappointing not to go to Hong Kong because the new boys are here and when you're away and around each other 24/7, you get to know them better but my knee is the most important thing and the Gaffer said to get the knee right and hes spot on because its at an important stage right now. Having said that the new boys are top drawer and its really good.
Jimmy also paid tribute to his former team mates and close friends, Michael Brown and Heidar Helguson.
I spoke to Browny yesterday and wished him all the best. I was a bit gutted as he was my roomy as well you know. He broke me into the Club and made it easier for me - hes a top man Browny.
Im sure hell be a great buy for Wigan and hopefully I wont be playing against him because you know what he tackles like! Im also going to miss Heidar who I played a lot of golf with and I want to wish him well.
