Roy Hodgson has made a £2m move for Le Mans centre-half Gregory Cerdan.
Fulham boss Hodgson is desperate for back-up for central defensive pair Brede Hangeland and Aaron Hughes and 6ft 3in Cerdan fits the bill.
Cerdan, 27, who has also been watched by Blackburn, is likely to be offered a two-year deal by Fulham who have a limited budget after reaching the Europa League.
Cerdan said: "I am interested in the Premier League and if a deal happens then I will take the opportunity. But I will also stay at Le Mans without any problems."
Hodgson, who has been scared out of a move for Arsenal's Philippe Senderos by the £8m asking price.
