Fulham are divers says Haka bad boy

last updated Saturday 13th July 2002, 9:40 AM
Fulham players have been accused of being 'divers' ahead of their InterToto Cup clash with Finnish club FC Haka on Sunday.

Haka midfielder Ville Vaisanen aimed the jibe at Jean Tigana's side as they prepare to meet in the return leg of their second round Cup clash.

Vaisanen clashed with Bjarne Goldbaek during last week's goalless match at Craven Cottage. The Finn was booed repeatedly after also being penalised for fouls on other Fulham players, but he claimed they were play-acting.

Vaisanen was also in the Haka team which lost 9-1 on aggregate to Liverpool in Champions League qualifying last season.

He said: 'I was a bit surprised by Fulham because I love English football. It is fair and hard but their players were going down a little bit more than normal.

'I was also surprised that they did not take any of their chances because I heard they had good strikers. I played against Liverpool last season, but I think they are maybe a little bit better than Fulham.'

Vaisanen admitted Haka had to defend throughout the first leg but said the return in Finland might be different. He said: 'We will be more attacking at home.'

Fulham midfielder John Collins is confident his team will qualify for the next round.

He said: 'Haka are halfway through their season and have played a lot more than us but we absolutely dominated the first game and they were inferior to us. I don't think we are going to suffer from the goalscoring problems we had last season. We are playing 4-4-2 to get players wide and to get more crosses in.'

Fulham striker Steve Marlet said: 'Our performance against Haka wasn't bad considering we are at the beginning of our preparations for the season.'

Fulham will be without midfielder Eddie Lewis and defender Steve Finnan as they are still being rested after playing in the World Cup finals.
