Fulham’s
under-19 team played host to Charlton at Motspur Park on Friday in a
pre-season friendly. Both
clubs, renowned for their Academy set-ups, had a promising array of
youngsters on view, which made for an intriguing encounter.
Fulham
started off the brighter of the two sides, playing the sharper and more
incisive football.Their good
work eventually paid off on 20 minutes, when the impressive Michael Johnson
put Bruce Lwando through following a crisp passing move in midfield.
Lwando finished off the move with a well-placed shot just inside the far
post.
Following
the goal, the tempo of the game became more erratic with both teams playing
a more direct style of football.Throughout
the match Fulham had been showing the greater initiative, however, on 35
minutes they were punished for a lack of concentration after a quickly taken
free-kick found its way into the net.
The
second half proved to be a far more competitive encounter with Charlton
making the game much tighter in midfield.
But on 68 minutes Michael Johnson squared the ball to Bruce Lwando
for the striker to tap home from 6 yards, making it 2-1 to Fulham.
Fulham’s
lead, however, only lasted 8 minutes before Ocquaye equalised for Charlton.
