New Fulham signing Urby Emanuelson has revealed that manager Martin Jol wants him to add more creativity to the Cottagers.
Emanuelson arrived at Craven Cottage last month on a loan deal until the end of the season from AC Milan.
The former Ajax man had flourished in Italy until losing his first team spot earlier this season, in a situation he admits took him firmly by surprise.
Emanuelson was quick to choose a move to Fulham saying "I don't see Fulham as a step back. A step back would have been to spend the rest of the season on the bench."
And the talented Holland international revealed that Jol has already told him what he expects him to add to the Fulham side, with creativity being key.
"Tactically speaking, Jol has asked me to bring more creativity to the team, but at the same time I must take care of my defensive duties and keep the team compact", Emanuelson explained.
"That's fine by me, I am an all-round player and I have always considered my versatility to be one of my strongest points.
"Playing a key role both in the defensive and the attacking phase is the same thing I did at Milan."
Emanuelson is aware that he will encounter differences in England compared to Italy though, although he actually feels he may enjoy the main differentiating aspect more than the frustrating parts of Serie A.
"Football in England is faster", he said.
"Moreover, the referees are more tolerant, while sometimes in Italy it is frustrating to see the game stopped every minute because of a foul."
