Claus Jensen undoes England

last updated Thursday 18th August 2005, 4:32 PM
England are reeling from their worst loss on the soccer field in 25 years after their shambolic 4-1 loss to Denmark in a football friendly.

After the match there was nothing amicable about the mood of English manager Sven-Goran Eriksson who told his players they could

forget about being a World Cup force if they kept playing the same way. Fortunately Eriksson and his bunch of highly paid but

under-performing players, the embarrassing defeat in Copenhagen was a friendly two weeks ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Wales.

A furious Eriksson apologised for his team's performance afterwards. Eriksson was angry after seeing his team concede three goals in seven second-half minutes as they conceded four goals for the first time since they lost to Wales in 1980. "It was the worst 45 minutes [in the second half] that I have had as England coach," he said. "It was a disaster all over the place, nothing went right and I'm very upset. "I apologise to the fans. It seemed like it was a holiday in the second half and I have told the players that they can forget about the World Cup if they play like that again."

Premiership Fulham's attacking midfielder Claus Jensen, signed from fellow Premiership rivals Charlton last summer, was involved in most of the Danish play helping to create a nightmare for England. While Claus was working to undo England at one end of the pitch another Fulham foot soldier Niclas Jensen, signed from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, was strong in Danish defensive efforts.

It was a shame for England but Fulham will be happy at a club level that the two Jensens are looking so good.
