I belong to a generation which grew up without the technological abundance of today for which I am more than grateful as I have no doubt that all these so called advances have negatively affected personal human relationships in many ways. I have no intention of entering into a debate about this, so I will simply admit that most of these are wonderful inventions which do however share a common problem, they are handled by human beings and many a time not in the most appropriate manner. This leads me on to VAR. A fabulous invention immensely misused. This gadget should be an assistance to the referee, however its anything but. Our highly technological and sentitive society has converted it into a permanent conflict. Possibly the fault lies not in what it can do but in how someone has decided to use it. In my opinión when a doubt occurs, be it yesterdays, a penalty, an offside or whatever ,a referee can make or miss a decisión and go into immediate dispute. At that very moment VAR comes in, there should be a máximum of 15 seconds for a split new decisión to be made. If it cant be made then the refs decisión stands and play goes on. Var should only bother about the big errors. With this philosophy our goal yesterday would have stood, so would have the 1966 hurst goal, but other episodes such as the south korean world cup cheating vs italy & Spain, or blatent fouling by Holland in the world cup final in South Africa could have been identified and dealt with .

The disallowing of Maja's goal was not VAR it was the rule. Any handball that leads to a goal means it is not a goal. Which of course means that handball in the area is treated differently for handball anywhere else, which is ludicrous and idiotic.

VAR has been bought on by the likes of. The so called x players and Sky. Years ago refs made mistakes good or bad. And fans talked about it on the way home or in the pubs after the games. But now the pundits watch fouls etc from untold angles. Which the poor ref does not get they make split second decisions and act on it. And now most fans go with what the pundits think and say. That is what has caused the problem we have now. and most of it is done for the arm chair watchers that never go to a game. If you go to games and dont keep up with the game and miss something we all say i missed that and what happened. That is what the refs have to put up with split second decisions. they are like the rest of us just human.

Ok, He pointed to the ref that there is an injustice, But the Ref still has the Decision, So How the Hell does He not see what I can see ?Whether You support FFC, Sheff. I think the problem, in part, is that VAR undermines the referees. It's clear by now there is no right or wrong answer and common sense must prevail but why have 2 flawed systems. The other problem is the quality of refereeing which won't get better if they have a 'safety net' to fall back on.

unfortunately the ref made the correct decision, its just that the law is wrong, which they have at least now decided to change for next season. I agree with geezer. Now even after every angle is seen the pundits still dont always agree whether it was a penalty or not. Not only pundits but managers have to take responsibility. Invariably they have a post match rave against the injustices of refereeing decisions (pre and post VAR) for there demise in a game. Everyone makes mistakes, players managers and officials. The managers are so one eyed in their opinions, often just trying to deflect criticism. Listen to any post match rugby interview to compare....... Like in other sports, players, managers and pundits should have more respect for the refs. I believe the officials are all doing their very best to make difficult decisions in an instant under extreme stress. Maybe all players and managers should have to ref a few games so they can appreciate the job they do. Ive completely changed my view on VAR. We should lose it except for goal line technology. I thought it would stop the diving - its made it worse. Lets give the decision making back to refs and assistants. We lose so much from the game when assistants cant flag an offside and the game just goes on... and on. Lets face it we want the emotion back. To be able to celebrate a goal when it goes in. Football doesnt work as well when it is sanitised. Good time to play liverpool!! COYW

To Scott Parker, With interest I have just read your report. You are right we did play very well and we did batter Tottenham in the second half. However there is something missing from our game, we do not shoot on goal often enough and delivery into the penalty area is not early or quick enough, we pass pass pass around the oppositions third of the pitch which is OK for some period of time during the game however, this does not score goals. Why are our striker's shy of shooting early, is it because they fear they may miss?... An attempted shot goal could result in a save, a corner or a goal. It is so frustrating to watch sometimes. As one of the commentators said last night, we do play great football however when getting the ball into the final third of the pitch we continue passing sideways and backwards to often and seemingly making no forward progress other than continual no pressure passing. In the first half, Tottenham were more direct and delivering early threatening crosses into the penalty area at speed. For example, if and when Mitro is playing he needs earlier deliveries into the box for him to feed off. He can only make good use of his skill if he knows that is what is going to happen. Instead, he gets smothered, this I think happens to other strikers and I feel its due to late deliveries into the box either along the ground or in the air.

I dont see VAR as the problem, it's the rules, who is using the system and how they interpret the rules as an individual. There isn't any consistency being applyed with the rules as they are at the moment, as other contributors are saying. They are correct that these poor VAR performances will cost teams, league postions, money and worst of all a chance to stay in the Prem. We see cheating in many matches, that now seems to be the norm. It's sad that this is tolerated.

I totally agree; VAR is not the problem, it’s the solution, so long as the rules are fair and just

"#Breaking Accidental handball leading to a team-mate scoring a goal or having a goal-scoring opportunity will no longer be considered an offence, the game’s law-making body the International Football Association Board has announce". Less than 24 hours after we were penalised for it. What really annoys me is that Spurs made an equally accidental handball that was checked by VAR but as it was a defender, nothing given. We have been very unlucky with these decisions this season.

How the hell can we have a rule in football that says it's handball when it hits an attacker and not handball when it hits a defender? Football has really list the plot and as for VAR it's the ruination of the game. The worst decision we've suffered this season may well end up being the most important...Wilson dives in the box, penalty given, Andersen sent off, goal scored...on appeal red card rescinded as Andersen didn't touch him. Wilson and Newcastle get away with cheating. No punishment for them they get rewarded and we lose 2 points. I'm sick of how this game is going, VAR is being used to massage results.

I'm not even sure about goal line technology when it takes away referees decision making. A clear goal by Sheffield Utd last season was ignored because the ref never got a signal from the Hawkeye system yet it was clear to see it was well over the line. That mistake saw Bournemouth relegated instead of Aston Villa so what's the good in technology in such cases? We accepted human frailties for years but it's difficult to accept what we know to be wrong

VAR makes referees lazy and their incompetence is rectified by remote cameras, only for another incompetent referee to apply his own interpretation of the situation. VAR sucks. Mason, Atkinson, Moss and Dean should all be retired. Where's 3 card Graham Poll when needed ? Bloody tossers all of them.

I'm not really into games or periods that are season defining and regardless of results, I am really enjoying watching Fulham again however, it is quite possible (although maybe not probable) that by the time the final whistle is blown on 13th March, Fulham could be 12 points from safety.

That, I would say, will be pretty season defining!

MST, what you are basically saying, is that Burnley are going to beat both Arsenal at home, and Everton away, Brighton are going to beat both Leicester at home, and Southampton away, and Newcastle are going to beat both WBA away and Villa at home, providing of course that we lose to both Liverpool, which is unlikely, and Manchester City at home, who will have a mid-week game to contend with before they play us, and this could be our chance to Fulhamish, and hold or even beat the table toppers. If all those results come to pass it will be time for me to give up watching football. In other words, it ain't going to happen. COYW

It is certainly possible. What is more galling is that Tottenham were spineless at Brighton two weeks ago but played like their lives depended on it last night. Why do we continue to have the worst London Derby record by a street mile?
posted by Tony R (Guest) - Friday 05th March 2021, 11:22 AM

Firstly I am 99.5% certain we will not be 12 points behind in a couple of games. That’s only just mathematically possible. Secondly, even if we were 12 points behind, we are down and out. We have Newcastle to play and we have a much better goal difference. It means the gap would only be 8points. 8points to make up from 8 games is not impossible. So MST you are being very pessimistic here. That’s a shame especially how we outplayed (albeit lost to a crazy rule) Spurs yesterday.
posted by John (Guest) - Friday 05th March 2021, 11:28 AM

Tony R, in my opinion, why other London clubs raise their games like as you mentioned, Spurs against Brighton, although they are not a London club, where they were useless, and last night's game against us, where they sent out probably, City apart, the best forward line in the Premier League, and tried their hardest to do a Burnley over us, when they scored 4. However our wonderful defence didn't allow that so they took off Bale and Ali in frustration, trying to improve, but they didn't, and we continued to dominate. I digress, and the reason they raise their games, is it seems that everybody admires us as a club in London, by other supporters, and just jealous of our reputation. Next season, we will improve and stuff most of them for a change, once we improve our strikers.

Not once did I allude to FFC being 12 points from safety being probable! In fact I wrote it was improbable!.

Not once did I write that I thought that FFC WOULD BE 12 points from safety in three games nor did I write I believed that would be the case.

WHAT I WROTE (for those without a brain) was, that if that DID happen it would be.....and I quote "PRETTY SEASON DEFINING".

It will be due to the first five matches, one point from 15, a -8 goal difference. Since then, it’s been 22 points from 22 matches, only outscored by four. For a newly promoted side, that’s very good. Parker has created defensive solidity and structure. He has made mistakes, riding RLC too long with no end product. But the team has been competitive in every match. If Khan had spent the RLC money on a real striker, we’d be nowhere near bottom three. Same with bringing the new players in sooner. SP has done a good job. Many of the points dropped haven’t been on him (the needless Robinson red card in the attacking half, the Lookman penalty flub, etc).

we will all learn to do the Parker and tell everyone what good football we are playing, how young the squad is, how unlucky we are but sadly as much as agree with all that, nothing will change and we still wont score goals and get points. The predictable bits are no shots on target first half by being cautious, play better second half but no one to finish and subs around the seventy minute mark.

The way Liverpool are playing surely this is our big chance to get a point or more at Anfield. That is the upside, but when a team is on a bad run, who do they look forward to be playing, yes of course it's Fulham. How many times over the years have we given a team on a poor run a win, so let us pray that this time we don't allow that.

Too many people, fans, players, managers, even the refs do not understand the laws of the game. Firstly, the handball law remains in situ, only the interpretations have been altered. This new interpretation means not all handball offences have to be intentional. For example, if the hand directly scores a goal it will be deemed a handball offence and the goal disallowed this is regardless of the fact that the handball was intentional or not. A further interpretation now states that if the ball hits the hand in the direct build up to a goal it will also be disallowed regardless of the intention. All other handballs must be intentional and the interpretations (ie hand in an unnatural position) are in place to assist the ref in making a subjective decision on intention. Hope that clears that one up. By the way, the interpretations have only confused everyone because they have been poorly drafted and ill thought, typical of the the leaders of our game.

Everyone who thinks we should get rid of Parker is beyond stupid. If we get relegated we will almost certainly loose him to a bigger club, if a bigger club happens to need a new manager. Our inability to get the loan players in from the start of the season and get ourselves sorted for the first seven games has killed us. That responsibility lies with the owners.
Replies
If parker stays or not the quality of loan player we may acquire if a championship club may be of a lower quality .Mentioning the dreaded name Brentford we need like them someone on our scouting material staff who can pick up the little gems who are still out there, so lets not keep on about who we can loan, and don't keep blaming the owners their footballing knowledge my be suspect, but their commitment as putting monies into the club cannot be criticised.

Fourteen games at home only scored 8 goals scored, says it all, we just can’t put the ball in the opponents net. Tonight for the last 20 minutes Spurs were hanging on to their one goal lead, with all our domination we had chances to score but same old story, we failed. we are obviously missing a quality striker that can find the back of the net. To say we require a C/F is an understatement. Looking at our last 10 games since we have found some kind of form and the draws we have acuminated we could, if having a goal scoring poaching player have by now amassed at least another 10 points.so what's the answer, with nothing to loose. Try out one of our squad players from another natural playing position, or give game time to an under23 team player or one from the academy, what have we got to loose

I'll tell you what we have got to lose, Kunya and that's our spot in the Premier League. What we need now is for our more experienced players to step up to the plate. We seem dogged by bad luck match after match, but surely that will change soon. It's possibly all going to come down to beating both Burnley and Newcastle at home, as I think that it's been on the cards for months now that the last day showdown with Newcastle will decide which team is going to be relegated, and hopefully it won't be us.

Malden Mick Kunye article referring to who we should play at C/f is not as stupid as you seem to think. WE CANNOT SCORE so why not try something new, even if it means giving the try outs a limited playing time, the status quo which you seem to advocated has failed, and will, ultimately, if not addresses will next season see us in a lower division

Would that have been a penalty if off a defender? Var has spoilt the game out of all recognition. Goal would have been given in the Championship. Team played really well..Spurs didn't deserve to win. It's put me off my supper!

Apparently it is not a penalty if it’s kicked against the defender. Big meeting about the laws tomorrow, hand ball included. Thought the ref was awful, Kane dived and var confirmed no penalty, why wasn’t he booked?. Gareth Bale deliberately kicks the ball at our defender as he was too close and tried to get him booked, absolute disgrace.

Okay' we scored 1 goal which was disallowed. Even with Loftus on the pitch we still create chances. Today wasn't his best game, but he is at our level more so than Chelsea. Kamara was never picked to play in that central striker's role, apart from QPR when he scored a brace. Maja is deceptive but useful. I like the way he took his goal disallowed. There was a slight side movement before putting the ball on his left which put the defender slightly off balance before he unleashed his shot. He is a good striker but he needs to produce more. Loftus will get all the blame for us losing and that seems to be some fans level these days...

Against Brighton West Brom .1 goal all season no assists and still people think he is good. Bring Mitro on for Lemina awful miss 1st half . Seems like bad luck with goal and same old. I wonder if Parker will change a few things to surprise Jose. Apart from the last game, we have been ripped apart by Spurs in recent years. We cannot handle Son, Deli (luckily, he's unlikely to play) and Kane. It would not surprise me if Parker switch back to a five at the back, and play Spurs on their own game on counter. COYW

I do not think Spurs will play their best team against us so we have a chance. It was impressive how we kept Palace best players out of the last game. Zambo does a good job in the roll. We do the same against Spurs we can beat them as eventually some of the chances we create will go in as the players who keep missing will not.

Must say when I saw spurs forward options thought we was in for a tough time but to be fair think they had a couple of good chances gave them their goal we missed a few half chances before they warmed up did not agree with pundits did not overly trouble us. First half second half only one team in it var has got to go shambolic fell victim to some faceless twat interpretation of hand ball how can you deliberately handle a ball if you can’t see it coming still peed of about our pen against Liverpool in the first half shocking decision like last night ref did not even bother to check Kane not booked for diving our pen incedent No pen should have been a corner in that case !!the only thing var gets right is offside but needless to say we got undone at West Ham even there manager said we got a bad break their for their first goal

Against Palace we couldn't score for peanuts, Parker-ball side-to-side passing sucks. Loftus Cheek is rubbish. We are no better than Championship, and so on and on! Yet Man Utd one of the supposedly best teams in the world just couldn't break Palace down. I really think that we have been a wee harsh bit on our hard-working lads in the game against Palace. They put everything and left everything out there apart from scoring goals. I think they deserve a break and we roll on to Spurs and hopefully, we can find better luck in the goals department? Goodness knows, we try...

'Are you not entertained' might just be a quote from the frustrated Scott Parker when we finally play Spurs and beat them? I say frustrated because i believe that Scott Parker has done everything he possibly can to get goals from our misfiring team. Parker is in danger of being the nearly man, the manager who just didn't quite manage to get this team to the dizzy heights of 'er' relegation. 'But' we don't want to dwell and wallow in deep sadness and self-pity, we want to go out there on our own version of the arena and take it to the Tottenham and score goals and beat them and 'er' entertain the media the doubters, the true grass-roots football people, and the whole world while we are at it! Fulham have no fear of Tottenham, Liverpool and Man City' did you hear that? This is coming from our captain Joachim Andersen and for good reasons.'We are hard to beat' and that is true for a long while into this season now, if only we can pop the cherry on the cake and icing, if only we can score the goals to seal the deal and beat Tottenham. I feel that all our players feel the same way Andersen does and they will do their utmost and best to keep Fulham up. We will have the pleasure of battle with Gareth Bale in the mix and maybe Dele Ali too. How come Mourinho can come up with the brain cell to play those two all of a sudden? It honestly gets my goat that Mourinho who would have been sacked for certain would play these two so-called lazy and don't want to run a yard for Tottenham. If we win, we will need to do so against a great player in Gareth Bale, in my opinion and my opinion is also that Bale will possibly save Mourinho his job for a while anyway. Just remember this quote from a 'er' gladiator. 'What we do in life echoes in eternity. Beat Spurs tomorrow will go down asour greatest victory on this planet. 'Er' uptil the next win game. COME ON FULHAM!!!!!!!

Very best wishes to KMac, sorry to learn of your medical condition, which whilst limiting in terms of football, does not mean a future life of physical limitations. Our gardener who has been with us over 20 years had a new kidney 30 plus years ago and still daily fells trees and digs very big holes etc. and has been leaving me in his wake all those years, puts me to shame on every level. I was delighted to learn last week that you had taken on important coaching duties and hope you’ll be back soon doing just that. Forget the playing, I for one would be delighted if you were to stay at FFC, have always felt you had a lot to offer with your experience and maturity to the next generation. I’m always sceptical about “offical “ figures from that era , as I remember it as a time when, amongst other things, people would find ways to bunk in, kids were encouraged by the turnstile operators to go into the entrance two at a time so they could kop personally one lot of money ( 1/6d a throw springs to mind ) However, thanks for taking the time to look it up , and I was wondering incidentally, do you collect stamps as well?

Although I'll be having one eye on Fulham's progress the other eye will be monitoring Newcastle, Brighton and Burnley's results because if we gain a low points result from next 3 games it's not bad as long those three lose.If they win and we lose I think that's it. I think we should have a go at Tottenham on Thursday. It's no use stacking the defence and hoping for a breakaway..Bale, Kane and Son will probably run rampant but if Tottenham have a weakness it's their defence..Let's put Mitrovich up front with Cav on the right and Lookman on the left. Leave Mata out.. he's not firing at the moment..use him as a late sub if Mitro gets tired or is not performing. March is make or break period I believe.
Replies
I admire your optimism re Mitro but at this point in time and this level I think he is a spent force. irrespective of which league we are playing in next season it would be best for both parties to part company, although there may be clubs who would match our required transfer figure his wages would probably be a problem. A swop with Armstrong of Blackburn + 8/10m would I feel be a good bit of business, but that would depend on what div: we are in, as he has stated he would like to ply his trade at a higher level.
posted by Kunye (Guest) - Monday 01st March 2021, 5:44 PM

On Sunday's showing, Mitrovic's lack of pace was so evident, even Benteke could give him ten yard start and beat him over thirty. Only at set plays can Mitro contribute in a positive way.
posted by mwk (Guest) - Monday 01st March 2021, 5:56 PM

I don’t think Mitro is a spent force. He severely lacking confidence at the moment. I blame the Scotland game. Yes, Mitro is not the fastest strikers out there but if that is the only issue, how is he the highest scorer for Serbia. He looked much leaner on Saturday and to be honest, he didn’t get club of the ball and when he did, he kept it well. We are not playing to his strength. Playing a short pass to him is not how he wants the ball. We either cross or play a high ball to him to bring players into play. I have the confidence he can still boss defenders, even at the premier league level. Let’s give him a run of games. He could be our season saviour like Kebano was last season!
posted by John (Guest) - Monday 01st March 2021, 6:13 PM

Lots of football managers on this site, let’s face it nobody knows who’s going to beat who but 1 thing is certain lots of unpredictable results coming. Strange thing about Fulham winning at Leicester and Everton were both a shock and our current form even though we’re not scoring we’re certainly hard to score against and play better against better sides. Brighton extremely unfortunate against West Brom and Palace so hopefully 1 team will drop like a stone pretty sure Mitro won’t be our saviour.

I would like to see Mitro as a targetman to hold up the ball for Lookman and Maja. His distribution is good and he has a great eye for a pass.

That’s probably the minimum to avoid relegation. Some say 40points maybe required this season but I don’t think so. Brighton/Burnley/Newcastle all got to play each other - so some points will guaranteed to be lost and also gained. Our 15 points also need to come from Burnley and Newcastle. I am also concerned Big Sam’s trick with Long ball and disruptive football starting to pay dividends. So without sounding a broken record, we have to start scoring and go in another winning run quickly. 5 points from the next 3 games would set us up very nicely!!
Replies
Thing is we aint going to get any thing from next 4 games so only need newc to get one win or couple of draws and we are fighting for breath, we have no chance with collecting many more points, include brighton in that equation and we need a massive miracle.

Real Arch Bishop, haven't you been following our last few results, and if you have, --didn't you notice that in one of the hardest leagues in the world, we have been unbeaten in our last 7 games, away from home, and we have only lost to Manchester City in our last 9 away, so how can you casually write off our next 4 games, with no points at all. Let's face it, you might well be right, but I think that we will pick up a few unexpected points. Manchester City can't go on winning, so let's put a spike in their tyre this time.

What planet are some of you guys on? We did not play side to side crab football and nothing, we pressed and probed Palace from the get-go to the end. Anguissa taken off was not a mistake and we created at least 2 or 3 good enough chances to win that game. It has nothing to do with how Parker sets the team up why we cannot score, especially against Palace. Their keeper played a blinder, Cahill had a good game and their defense was solid in the main. What can we expect against a wily old fox in Roy Hodgeson? Yes' we need to give the guy the respect he deserves and he set Palace up not to lose. Scott Parker did his home-work totally and we snuffed out the dangerous big men such as Benteke and we controlled the midfield. Bigboy thinks Roy is a genius, i didn't see anything to justify that accolade. Someone say's that Roy has less talent to work with which i disagree about. If Zaha had played, i admit we would have more problems to deal with but he didn't play. Scott Parkers tactics and pressing was by far the better tactical display in my opinion and even the football brains will tell you that. Scott Parker is improving his tactical awareness and even an idiot would suss that looking at our first encounter with Palace. Maja and goal record is 1 in 4 games and we got him in the final hours. What planet are you guys on if you think Parker picked this guy? Mitrovic is Slavisa's boy and also nothing to do with Parker. Scott Parker can only do the best with these guys but they don't score enough goals at the moment. Normally the team pressing in the first half gets tired ,but we still press them to the end. Our boys put in a shift against Palace but some still rate them Championship level, how insultive is that?. Lookman worked his socks off to close down dangers off the ball. Loftus Cheek worked hard and he is a good player, we just need the breaks. Maja might have headed that ball either side of goal to score, but it wasn't to be. If Maja had scored that one, we would have won the game and congratulated Parker on a genius substitution and so on. Football is full of fine margins and right now, we are not getting any of the breaks. The idiot Jose Mourhiho has discovered that Bale and Ali are actually good players so no chance they will be benched from now on then? We have half a decent record against top teams so take a crumb from that stats. COME ON FULHAM!!!

Football is about luck as well as skill, endeavour and tactics. Maja had three good chances created for him which with a bit of luck some would have gone in the goal. WE created enough chances to win three games. One of these games it will all come together and we will hammer somebody.

I agree with most of that Owen, well said. Mind you the first half was rubbish. Thought Parker’s substitutions we’re spot on and we so nearly capitalised. You didn’t mention Cav and Robinson, thought they in particular posed a far greater threat.

Owen, please get your facts correct before someone sues you for libel. I did not state Roy Hodgson was a genius so do not invent stories to support Your case. I said it might be sensible to employ him, if Crystal Palace do not extend his contract, as a Director of Football to harness his experience in assisting Scott Parker. However, as anyone in the newspaper trade will tell you, "Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story".

I see he is available on a freebie and looking to restart his career. Once a prolific goal scorer and cost Blackburn £10 mln in 2012, a record sum outside the top tier, at the time. Fulham were interested him before he went to Blackburn and he might be worth a punt on a short term contract.

0-0 was a disappointing ending as we played well enough for the 3 points. At least we're creating chances...if we can get better at converting then we give ourselves a realistic chance. Only 3 points behind B&HA and Newcastle + Burnley struggling. At least we are not soft touches any more. Having previously criticised Cav I felt he did well when he came on and I'll happily acknowledge that RLC had a good match - some lovely touches. I'll be delighted if that continues. COYW

Yes not bad at all. Winning 3 out of 4 games is probably never going to happen. I don’t understand the criticism below of Parker on the sub. We weren’t going to score anyway. So changing the formation is the right thing to do. The fact we went aggressive with the formation but still managed to keep a clean sheet, I think it’s not a bad decision. So unfair to criticise Parker for the sub.

I've been a big critic of Cavaleiro but he has been better over recent matches, especially when coming on as sub. However who is going to stick the ball into the back of the net? Is it time to consider a young , quick striker from the 18s or 23s squads to come on for 15 minutes or so to stretch the game and maybe score a goal.

I disagree with you Putney Pete, that point today could keep us up at the end of the season, so every draw we get adds another point to our total, and it puts us a point nearer our relegation rivals. Would you sneer at 3 draws from our next three games. No, I thought not.

It is not like Scott to panic, he did it to win it but nearly lost it. It did not look live Maja and Mitro have not trained together. If you play two up front they must be a few metres apart not trying to occupy the same sport as they did a lot. Did Scott not notice we had complete control of midfield and were making chances. We have twelve game left, that must be enough for us to get clear of this trouble.
