Lee Clark started his career with his hometown club of Newcastle United back in the late 80s.
The midfielder was a member of Kevin Keegan's squad which won the First Division title in 1993 and pushed for Premiership honours.
Played 240 games for the Magpies before making a shock £2.5million move to arch rivals Sunderland in the summer of 1997. It was the club's record signing.
May have a been a very exciting player for Sunderland, also helping them to a First Division crown in 1999, but his allegiance to the black and white stripes was impossible to shake off.
Clark offended the fans on a number of occasions, the most notable being when he travelled to Wembley to support Newcastle in the FA Cup. His legendary status in Sunderland hit rock bottom when he was filmed wearing an anti-Mackem T-shirt.
Possessing vision and good passing ability, Lee added a second First Division championship medal while at Sunderland to the one he won with Newcastle in 1992, and is one of the few players who is revered by both clubs' fans. He was also picked by his fellow professionals, for the second year running, as a member of their award winning First Division select.
The former England Under-21 international, inevitably, moved on in the summer of 1999, joining the ambitious Fulham for £3million when the club was spending to insure Premiership football.
Made his debut for the Cottagers in a 2-2 draw at Birmingham City, but took time to settle and was sent off in only his fourth game for the club at Grimsby Town.
A great passer of the ball, Clark eventually got to grips with life in the capital - and even finished as the clubs top scorer with eight goals and in 2001 collected his third First Division championship medal as Fulham headed back into top flight football after 32 years.
By the start of the 2002/03 season, Clark had made more than 100 appearances for the club.
