Liverpool are in the hunt for Fulham's unsettled midfielder Lee Clark.

Anfield boss Gerard Houllier believes the former England Under-21 player can offer him more options, and he has been in contact with the First Division pace setters over a £2.5million move.

Clark emerged from the junior ranks at Newcastle to become a firm favourite with the supporters. He became one of the few players to move from Tyneside to Wearside, when he joined bitter rivals Sunderland.

That surprise transfer went sour when Clark was spotted at Wembley wearing a T-shirt with disparaging remarks about Sunderland while supporting Newcastle at the FA Cup final against Manchester United.

Clark then joined Fulham and he has been an integral part of the side, but his family have become unsettled and Clark recently returned to his native North-east.

With this in mind, Fulham are ready to allow the 28-year-old to leave at the right price, which has sparked interest from Liverpool.

But they may have opposition from Newcastle if manager Bobby Robson can raise the cash, a move which would suit the player better.
