Fulham Head Coach Slavisa Jokanovic was left frustrated with his Fulham side after a slow start which cost his side against Sheffield Wednesday.

Fernando Forestieri struck after 10 minutes for the visitors, who entered the game in 10th place, and were content to take their goal and sit back against the Whites.

It took until injury time for the hosts to equalise, with unlikely source Scott Malone slamming home from six yards.

But the Fulham boss was left frustrated with the lethargic start from his side.

"We are unhappy at the end because in the last five minutes we could have scored a second goal to win the game. But to be honest, we didn’t play very well.

"We didn’t offer our best performance but on the other hand I am very satisfied with some parts of the game, we didn’t surrender in any moment. They played a better football game today. They were closer than us to winning three points.

"But if we played this game last season we’d have lost 3-0 or something.

"When we play good football like we did against Huddersfield and Brentford it’s easier to win points, but today we learned to compete – we found many problems during the game but at the end we scored the goal and at the end could have scored a second goal too."

The Serbian manager, who earned has promotion to his name with Watford, also rued the referee's decision not to point to the spot.

"There is one situation in the Sheffield Wednesday box where it’s very clear a player has pulled the shirt of Stefan Johansen," Jokanovic continued.

"The referee was in a very good position, I saw this situation, all the stadium saw this situation, but for some reason he didn’t point to the penalty spot.

"If you pull the shirt in the box the rules say very clearly it’s a penalty. It’s a big mistake in a dangerous moment for us."

But Jokanovic pointed at the positives - highlighting the importance of getting a point against a fellow top-six contender.

"The players who started the last three games, they need to push hard and fight for their position, in the same people who didn’t participate much can’t surrender, they need to work hard and compete for the starting 11," he added.

"Today we showed too many weaknesses in the defensive part of the game, we weren’t solid enough and especially we found so many problems with Sheffield Wednesday’s strikers.

"They protect the ball, they won in the challenges. We need to be careful after the international breaks – players who arrived two days before [the game] need to immediately be 100% focused on what they have to do.

"I try to learn, too, for the next time we find this situation. This game could be a play-off game, it’s very important to find a result like we found today – this is the lesson we learned today and this is the positive part."
