Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic was left frustrated by the circumstances in which his Fulham side fell to 1-0 defeat at the hands of Reading on a chilly night at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.

After a pensive first half between the two sides a Roy Beerens was on hand to fire home on the follow up following a John Swift penalty miss to score the only goal in the match.

After the controversial penalty had been awarded for the hosts at the start of the second half the Head Coach was left to rue another spot kick miss for his side in the dying stages, which proved to be the difference between a point and returning back to London empty handed.

“I saw only one,” he stated. “The first one is a very big mistake. This happens sometimes in football.

“The second one is a penalty but unfortunately for us we didn’t see the same result.

“I don’t know. For me it is 100% not but for the referee it is. We are human and can make mistakes and that’s it.

“We have shot 9 times from the penalty spot and have missed 7.

“It is a very strange situation and we are going to try and find a solution for this kind of problem.

“I expect in football people find many problems but not this kind of situation. I am stressed for my players because they made a huge effort at the end to arrive in the situation to equalise the game.

“But one time more we missed from the penalty spot.

“Listen, I have changed five times and only Chris Martin has scored.

“We will look to find a solution for this. We practice everything that can happen during a game and we will continue to do this.

“I cannot blame a player. It is part of football. It is my responsibility.”

After setting up his side in a slightly different formation to the match against QPR on Saturday lunchtime, Jokanovic reverted to a more familiar 4-2-3-1 structure at the start of the second half.

An alternation which the Head Coach was implemented in order to deal with direct approach applied by the hosts in the opening 45 minutes.

“I expected them to try and move the ball around the defensive line” the Head Coach reflected. “I expected them to send some long balls.

“We lost some space in the midfield and we didn’t deal with the long balls so for the second half I decided to change the structure.

“Reading wanted to move the ball like we did and we both had to play under the same situation.

“It’s winter and in these months the pitches are not great and all teams have to play on the same surface.”
