Diomansy Kamara has revealed that his recuperation from a serious knee injury sustained over the summer is ‘going very well’ and is hoping to make his Fulham return in time for the busy Christmas schedule.

The Fulham forward damaged his knee ligaments when representing Senegal in a World Cup qualifier and has not featured at all this season for Roy Hodgson’s side.

The 27-year-old's return would be good news for The Cottagers who take on Middlesbrough, Tottenham and Chelsea during the space of just eight days.

Kamara is now undergoing an intensive programme designed to restore him to full fitness as soon as possible and the former West Brom striker insists he is pleased with how things are progressing.

“It’s going very well, I’m two or three months away from playing so I’m happy with the way the rehabilitation is going,” Kamara told the club’s official website.

“I’ve started running, which is the most important stage, and I’m doing very well.

“I need to work on my fitness but I’m doing bike work and running – everything to get my fitness up.

“After the operation I was a little bit frustrated but now it’s okay. In a few more months I’ll be playing football.”

The Cottagers have suffered a dip in form after back-to-back victories over Arsenal and Bolton but Kamara is encouraged by how Fulham have performed in the first seven games of the new season.

“For me, the team is better than last year,” Kamara added. “We have more quality and some good players have arrived like Andy Johnson and Zoltan Gera – it’s definitely a better team this year.

“We started well with some good wins over Bolton and Arsenal, we didn’t do so well this month but I hope we will do better than last year and with the quality we have available I think it will be better.”

Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson said: “Diomansy is definitely ahead of schedule.

"He will be like one of our new signings.”
