Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen has revealed why it took him so long to settle at the club following his move from Celtic, reports Get West London.

Johansen joined the Cottagers for £2m during the summer transfer window, though struggled to make much of an impact during the early stages of the season, with veteran Scott Parker preferred.

Since then, the Norway international has been a key part of Fulham’s midfield, forming a solid partnership with Kevin McDonald and Tom Cairney.

Having been made available for transfer by Celtic, Johansen confirmed he had not played enough football prior to joining Fulham: “It took time to get match fitness.

“Since then, I have found a good partnership with Tom and Kev. They allow me a bit of freedom to get on the ball and play.”

The midfielder has made 23 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring eight goals in the process. Initially, he had proved to be a big player for the Hoops under Ronny Deila, though has revealed what happened between he and new Hoops chief Brendan Rodgers as he prepared to leave Glasgow.

“I didn’t sign a new contract in the summer, and didn’t play at Celtic,” he explained.

“The manager at Celtic (Brendan Rodgers) said it was obvious I needed to sort out a new club.”

His performances have helped Fulham to 10th in the Sky Bet Championship table, with a small chance of making the Play-Offs.

Fulham lost out to Birmingham City last weekend, but face struggling Wigan Athletic at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
