Derby County have splashed out £375,000 to sign Fulham defender Dean Leacock.

The versatile 22-year-old has secured a three-year contract at Pride Park, just weeks after a move to Swansea City collapsed.

The League One side had announced the club record capture of Leacock in mid-July, only for the deal to be called off days later.

Leacock's disappointment has proved to be short-lived, though, after Derby made the youngster their fourth signing of the summer.

Rams boss Billy Davies has already brought in Ryan Smith, Steve Howard and Matt Oakley, and has now added the former Coventry City loanee to his ranks.

The Championship club's managing director Mike Horton believes Leacock is an ideal recruit to the team's back-line.

"Dean's a good player and at the right age to bridge the gap between our more experienced defenders and youngsters like Lewin Nyatanga," Horton told the club's official website.

Leacock, who can play at centre half or right back, made seven appearances for Fulham last season after having a spell in the team over the Christmas period.
