last updated Tuesday 16th April 2002, 10:31 PM
Fulham boss Jean Tigana admitted he is having sleepless nights over his team's lack of goals as he challenged his players to respond to their FA Cup semi-final defeat by securing top-flight survival.

Fulham's 1-0 loss against local rivals Chelsea at Villa Park on Sunday night left Tigana's team with only a battle against relegation to concentrate on now.

However, the game effectively summed up their inconsistent season as they flattered to deceive in failing to find the net for the 14th time this season - almost one-third of their 43 fixtures so far this season.

The lack of a regular source of goals is what has ensured that 16th-placed Fulham, who are four points clear of the relegation zone, still need another three points to reach the 40-point milestone.

They have four games left, starting at Leeds on Saturday, with Bolton, Leicester and Blackburn also left to play.

Tigana admitted: "It's normal that we're very disappointed and it's very sad for our fans, but we need to come back quickly now.

"We need to keep our focus on staying up. This was a match that summed up our season. We did not play too badly and had our chances but we did not score.

"That's been our problem and that's why I'm very frustrated.

"It's not only down to the strikers though. People put pressure on them but they need the ball to have chances.

"It's a team problem and after that it's a manager's problem. That's why it's difficult for me to sleep."
