Fulham have refused to commit themselves to a full-on charge in this season's shock-ridden Worthington Cup - despite the Cottagers being one of only eight Premiership clubs in the last 16.

Jean Tigana's men, who eased past Division Three outfit Bury 3-1 in last night's third round, are serious contenders to win the competition and clinch a UEFA Cup place for next season.

Fulham Assistant manager Christian Damiano, who will discover his side's fourth round opposition in Saturday's draw, said: "It will be difficult to win this competition.

"We also have the championship and the UEFA Cup, so we need to manage the three competitions together.

"We played with a good attitude last night. We had 11 players from different countries playing, although all their languages are football."

Tigana is considering letting Andrejs Stolcers loose on Aston Villa on Saturday after the forgotten striker's man-of-the-match performance.

The 28-year-old Latvian hit a brace - his first goals for 22 months - to secure this stroll-in-the-park victory at Loftus Road.

Stolcers, starting only his ninth game since joining the Londoners for £2million two years ago, actually doubled his Fulham career goal tally with his fine finishes after 39 and 52 minutes.

Damiano confirmed Tigana could now deploy the lively Stolcers at Villa Park as the Cottagers bid to halt their three-match league losing streak.

"Andrejs has progressed very well and now he's very close to the rest of our strikers," he said. "He did well against Dynamo Zagreb in the UEFA Cup. And now there's more opportunity for us to include him in the squad."

Stolcers' cause will be helped by forward Louis Saha going under the knife for an operation on his hamstring injury today. Damiano confirmed: "Louis will have his operation this afternoon. Then we will wait for advice from our medical staff."
