Wolves have signed Marcus Hahnemann to mentor goalkeepers Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme, according to chief executive Jez Moxey.

The United States international has joined the newly promoted side after being released by Reading, and Wolves hope he will add experience to the squad alongside Hennessey and Ikeme.

"Marcus Hahnemann is coming to play football and is going to challenge for the No1 spot," said Moxey. "He brings a wealth of experience to our young goalkeepers, who are outstanding," Moxey added. "We asked Marcus to provide that mentoring role for Wayne and for Carl. He's really up for doing that, so we're pleased with the signing."

Moxey said the arrival of Hahnemann did not mean either Hennessey or Ikeme would be leaving the club. "Wayne is going to be at Molineux plying his trade. He'll be here helping to keep us in the Premier League. He's an outstanding goalkeeper, as is Carlo and Matt [Murray], who's injured."

Hahnemann, who was not offered a new deal at Reading, has signed a 12-month deal at Molineux.
