F.A. Cup 5th round game details and results

last updated Sunday 17th February 2002, 8:00 PM
Fulham are in the quarterfinal of the F.A. Cup for the first time since they appeared in the Cup Final in 1974/75 after a good game up at Walsall, conquerors of Charlton in the previous round.

Jean Tigana's Black and White Army played their usual game, plenty of possession but not many chances, and were able to do enough to be the first club to reach the quarterfinal stage. Bazza Hayles got the all important winning goal, his first away goal in a year!! The goal followed a quick Fulham freekick and a cross in from Steve Finnan. Bazza slotted the ball into the Walsall net with a firm single touch. Again as usual Fulham seemed vulnerable on a few occasions but rode their luck and won through. Adeslam Ouaddou was given a start in preference to Andy Melville and had an excellent game as did Steve Finnan. The draw for the next round is on Sunday evening at about 20.55 London time. Hopefully we can get a home draw against the softest team left in the competition. COME ON YOU WHITES

Other Cup games
Saturday saw Arsenal, Middlesbrough and West Brom join Fulham in the quarterfinals. On Sunday Everton were unable to beat Crewe at Goodison Park and must replay at Crewe in a week and a bit. Spurs trampled on Tranmere 4-0, chelsea squeezed by Preston 3-1 after going behind early in the game and Newcastle beat 10 man Man City 1-0.
