Wigan hope for Johansson

last updated Thursday 27th October 2005, 9:10 AM
PAUL JEWELL hopes Andreas Johansson’s double strike in the Carling Cup win over Watford will revive the Swede’s career at Wigan.

Johansson, 27, cost the club £450,000 from Djurgaardens last January but failed to make an impact until Tuesday, with his first goals for the Latics.

Jewell said: “There’s no denying he has struggled. But hopefully he can kick on and start to show what he’s really about.

“He’s got plenty of ability. Maybe if he had scored when he first came it may have boosted his confidence.”

Johansson could get his chance in Saturday’s home Premiership clash against Fulham as strikers Jason Roberts (thigh) and David Connolly (hamstring) are struggling.
