Fulham defender Wayne Bridge, on loan from Chelsea, has revealed he turned down a move to Tottenham because they wanted to play him in midfield.

The England international snubbed overtures from Tottenham to sign for The Cottagers earlier this month after being allowed to leave Chelsea until the summer.

Bridge left Chelsea in search of regular first team football in a bid to make England's World Cup squad and he insists Tottenham's desire to play him in midfield made him opt for Fulham.

"I don't want to say too much about Tottenham. I could have gone there if I wanted - but I didn't want to," said Bridge.

"They said they couldn't guarantee me first-team football, and actually said they wanted me to play left midfield! That's somewhere I didn't want to play.

"I wanted to play left back and that was a big factor with Fulham."

Bridge will come up against Tottenham on Tuesday night when Fulham play host to their London rivals at Craven Cottage, live on PremPlus.
