Fulham boss Roy Hodgson admitted his side needed to start scoring goals away from home if they are to move up the table.

The Cottagers notched up their second successive home win with an impressive 2-1 win over resurgent Spurs on Saturday.

But a difficult trip away to high-flying Liverpool awaits after the international break.

And Hodgson knows his players will have to build on their home performances if they are to take anything from Anfield.

Hodgson said: “You need people scoring goals. At the beginning, we were not scoring goals and now we are beginning to get two a game and if we continue that goal scoring prowess I am sure we will get away wins.”

His Fulham team put in what he described as their best performance of the season turning over a Tottenham side rejuvenated by Harry Redknapp’s arrival.

Hodgson said: “I think the balance was right.

“We have had games when we have played attacking football and others where it is backs to the wall defending.

“In terms of the game as a whole there were not many hopeful balls.”

He singled out Bobby Zamora for praise, commenting on not only his running but his willingness to drop deep and help defend But despite controlling the game for vast periods of the match, both goals were aided by questionable goalkeeping at the hands of Spurs keeper Gomes rather than Fulham’s attack.

Hodgson now hopes some of that good fortune will spill over to away from Craven Cottage and help them add to their meagre tally of just one point on their travels so far this season.

He said: “What luck we have had has been at home. Away from home luck has deserted us.

"Quite often...opposing managers will say we have been unlucky and deserved more from the game. In this league away wins are hard to come by.”
