Canadian Mens World Cup Team head coach
Holger Osieck today announced the 22-man roster which will compete at the
2001 Confederation Cup in Japan/Korea from May 31-June 10. The squad includes
Fulham's Paul Peschisolido.
A group of 17 players will depart Vancouver
on May 24 with several players still to join them in Japan. Paul Fenwick
and Mike Franks will join the team following the Scottish FA Cup Final
on May 26. Paul Stalteri touring Korea with Werder Bremen and will join
the team on May 25. Garret Kusch will play with his Norwegian Club Hoenefoss
before flying to Japan on May 25 while Daniel Imhof will play in St. Gallens
final game of the season on May 26.
The Canadian team has been training in
Vancouver since May 17th with players joining the squad on a daily basis
from their various Clubs. The team will arrive on May 25th and travel
by train to Niigata. The Canadian squad will play an exhibition game against
Omiya Ardija of the Japanese Second Division on May 28 in Niigata before
facing Japan on May 31 in the first game of the tournament.
