Norwich 0-1 Fulham
Boa Morte 88
Luis Boa Morte came off the bench to keep Fulham’s 100 per cent record intact
at Norwich.
Jean Tigana’s men looked set to drop their first points of the season until
the former Arsenal man pounced just two minutes from time.
A sweet move from left to right saw Sean Davies and Bjarne Goldbaek exchange
passes before the former slid the perfect pass into Boa Morte’s path and he
coolly prodded it past Andy Marshall.
After slipping straight into their passing game and making a bright start
that saw Louis Saha force the first save
from Andy Marshall, Fulham were soon hassled and harried out of their stride.
Despite the imperious promptings of John Collins and the industry of Goldbaek,
the Cottagers were soon forced onto the back foot as Lee Marshall started to
emerge as an attacking threat down the right.
Having been switched to counter the threat of Collins, the 21-year-old created
his side’s two best chances.
First he wriggled round Rufus Brevett and crossed for Iwan Roberts to flash
a volley wide of the far post and then threaded a delightful through ball to
Chris Llewellyn only for his effort to skim agonisingly across the face of goal.
Fulham’s frustration boiled over on 25 minutes as Barry Hayles sparked a shoving
match between both sets of players that saw the striker and City duo Fernando
Derveld and Darel Russell booked.
To their credit, Tigana’s men regained their composure the quickest and a
neat move down the left ended with Collins pinging a crisp drive straight into
the arms of Marshall.
Whatever Tigana said during the interval seemed to work and just four minutes
after the restart Saha latched onto a clever pass from Sean Davies, beat Marshall
with a toe-poke but saw the ball bounce off the foot of the post.
But that was the last time Fulham really showed their class until the 88th
minute when Boa Morte made the most dramatic of impacts.
Amazingly he could have had a second after Marshall had blocked Saha with
his legs but even though he rolled the ball wide of an open goal, it will be
of little comfort the Canaries.
