Fulham WILL be in the Premiership next season. At least that's what recent history indicates.

Fulham champions 2001
Fulham need 26 points from their last 14 games to get into Europe
Over the last 5 years only one Premiership team, which has been in the top 13 at this point in the season, has gone on to be relegated at the end of the season . The team who managed to do it was Sunderland in the 1996/97 season under Peter Reid. They went on to return to the Premiership two years later in 2000 as Division One champions with 105 points.

The less good news for Fulham is that although teams in mid-table are more likely than not to improve their position by the end of the season it is rare for them to get higher than 8th. Two teams in 8th spot at this point in the season have managed to gatecrash the Euro party by the end of the season, West Ham in 1998/99 and chelsea in 2000/01.

Again recent history shows that 58 is the magic number of points to make that 7th place. This means that we will have to get another 26 points from our next 14 games to get into Europe in our first season back in the top flight, a far higher rate than we have managed so far this season.

Can Jean Tigana, the squad and the fans beat the weight of history?
