Fulham have made a bid of £6m for 28-year-old Swiss striker Marco Streller.
The Cottagers have offered an initial loan deal for the 6ft 5in striker.
Manager Roy Hodgson wants the FC Basle forward as back up after injuries to Bobby Zamora and Clint Dempsey.
Streller was informed of the Fulham's interest on Thursday and made the usual statement that he was very happy at Basel.
The striker played against Fulham twice in the Europa Cup league section managing to score against Fulham in the second game.
If their bid fails they will try for Stoke's James Beattie, who also interests Blackburn.
