Fulham away at Wigan in Carling

last updated Tuesday 19th August 2003, 9:34 AM
Fulham have been drawn away at Nationwide 1st Division side Wigan in the Carling(League) Cup for the second season running. Last season the two clubs clashed in the 4th round and Wigan beat The Cottagers 2-1 up at the JJB Stadium.

This season it will be Chris Coleman who has to decide how important the League Cup is in relation to progress in the Premiership. During Jean Tigana's time at the helm the League Cup was a secondary issue with reserves and first teamers in need of a game being fielded. Cookies' chances of survival are clearly linked to Premiership performance and with a restricted squad it is probable that Mr Tigana's policy will be continued. So unless the reserves have also had their spirits lifted by the Coleman factor The Cottagers involvement in the League Cup could be restricted to the early rounds.

The most likely date for the game is Tuesday 23rd September, with a kick-off time to be confirmed at a later date.
