Fulham assistant-boss Christian Damiano admitted the Cottagers will now
approach their final two games against Leicester and Blackburn in more relaxed
manner.
That should allow them to contend a potential place in the Intertoto
Cup, which could yet provide the capital club with an unlikely UEFA Cup
spot.
"We have stayed in the Premier League and reached the semi-finals of
the FA Cup, so it has been quite a good season."
Damiano claimed the pre-season predictions of a top-six finish were always
likely to be wide of the mark, particularly given the lack of Premiership
experience in the squad when he and Tigana took over in July 2000.
"When we arrived there were two players - Chris Coleman and Lee Clark
- who had Premiership experience. They have both been injured this season,
so it was presumptuous of people to think we would do better than we have.
"We signed Steve Marlet and everyone was talking about the £11.5million
we paid. But he was injured when he got here, then got another knock in
his first game so even that has been quite difficult."
