Louise Saha
cooly slots it away from the penalty spot |
|
Fulham's French hot-shot Louis Saha bagged a brace from the spot that snared
Wolves at Craven Cottage and took Jean Tigana's Fulham to the magical 100-point
mark.
The Division One champions enjoyed a carnival evening that saw another capacity
crowd in West London sing and cheer every touch from a white shirt
They celebrated two goals either side of halft-ime as well as Wolves controversial
hard man Kevin Muscat gave away both penalties after fouls on
Karl-Heinz Riedle.
The first came in the 23rd minute after Fulham's first incisive attack. Saha's
speed took him past two defenders and enabled him to thread the ball through
to Riedle, who was hacked down.
The second came in the 69th minute when Muscat needlessly pushed down the former
German international. Saha made no mistake, giving goalkeeper Michael Oakes
no chance with either kick.
For most of the time it was a typical end-of-season encounter.
Fulham had seven players away on international duty, but passed the ball around
in their usual fashion without causing too much trouble to the Wolves defence.
The visitors themselves scarcely mustered a shot on target and could have had
a heavier defeat if Oakes had not tipped a Sean Davis free-kick over the bar
and saved from Lee Clark.
