Everton boss sees goals from midfield

last updated Thursday 09th March 2006, 9:47 AM
David Moyes believes his Everton side has discovered a good balance in midfield and hopes to see that translated into a greater goal return in the final 10 games of the season.

The Blues only netted five goals from midfield before the turn of the new year. That modest haul from 25 matches is in contrast to a more impressive return of seven strikes from the 12 games to date in this calendar year.

That upsurge is thanks to a rise in form by the Blues, helped in no small part by the impressive understanding established in the sides midfield.

But the Everton boss believes his midfielders still have more to offer as an attacking force in the final two months of the campaign.

"I think there are goals in the midfield. Ossie can get a goal, Mikel should score more, Simon Davies can definitely score goals and I would be hoping that he can score two or three before the end of the season.

"And as we know Tim has got a goal in him, so it is disappointing that we have not scored as many as we should have done this season. But maybe we are saving them up for the rest of the season.

"We have four or five midfield players who are playing really well right now.

"We have Tim who can get forward and score goals, we have Mikel and Ossie who are happy to play in three or four different positions.

"We have Phil who can play more defensively, we have Kevin Kilbane who gives us his size and power on the left, Simon Davies with his football. We have good players and I thought at the beginning of the season that we had good players but it has probably taken us to Christmas time to start showing that.

"There are five or six of them (in the team) on top form most of the time at the moment so if that keeps going right to the end of the season then that will keep us in a healthy position. Our recent run is down to the players coming back in to form."

That 10 game run to the end of the season begins this weekend with the visit of Fulham to Goodison.
