After being unceremoniously bulldozed off
the pitch at Portsmouth, Fulham’s record signing Alain Goma remains hopeful
of making his home debut this evening against Wolves at Craven Cottage.

Goma looking forward to home debut |
|
Goma's was disappointed after being injured at the weekend and described
how the incident took place:
“I was following the ball when the striker pushed me and I flew into the
stand. After, I tried to run and it was not really painful but when I tried
to sprint, I couldn’t, the pain was very strong so I had to come off.
Despite his untimely departure from the match, Goma remained positive as
he looked back on his first outing for the Whites:
“It wasn’t the best debut because I had to come off, but it was a lovely
day because it was the first time I played with the team and I really enjoyed
it.”
Portsmouth’s physical approach to Saturday’s match meant that Fulham had
to pass the ball with care so as not to give Pompey the opportunity inflict
any further injuries on Fulham players, something that tested the Champions’
passing skills to the limit.
In spite of the conditions, Goma praised his teams performance:
“I think we played quite well. Physically, it was quite difficult because
Portsmouth played hard. But I think we did well, we kept passing the ball
and we had a few good chances.”
Having dropped down from the Premiership, albeit temporarily, Goma had the
opportunity to experience a taste of the 1st Division and made a comparison
between the country’s top two flights:
“I discovered the First Division. I think the football is quite difficult
and physical, but I think that maybe the referees have to manage a little
bit better.
“I’ve seen a few matches in the First Division, I think the First Division
referees let the game play more than in the Premier League.
“I don’t think that it’s a very good thing because we know that English
football is quite physical and it could be dangerous for the players.”
Having seen more of the treatment table than the pitch so far in his Fulham
career, Goma has also been reunited with on of his ex-mentors, fitness trainer
Roger Propos, who he regards very highly:
“I was lucky to work with Roger Propos, who I knew before.
“He did a very good job, I think I needed to work hard because my fitness
level was quite low – so I was happy to work with Roger, even though it
was difficult.” Goma acknowledged.
Alain is eager to get back into the thick of the action and, hopefully for
Fulham supporters, he’s setting his sights on tonight’s match against Wolves:
“I’m looking forward to playing in front of the Fulham fans. There was a
lot at Portsmouth but I would like to play in front of them at Craven Cottage.”
