Congratulations to shahid Khan. I get annoyed when people still criticise him and those who still sing MAF songs. I defended Khan when he’s been under attack here and I am now even more convinced he will be a better chairman than MAF, and with real budget to show for it. While we been in the championship, the club now has better training facility, healthier balance sheet, better squad of young players and money committed to expand the stand. I challenge anyone still have doubts about Khan. Yes, he has other agenda such as his Jaguar team playing in London and buying Wembley but non of which are detrimental to the fulham football club or the brand. I trust Khan that now we are promoted and not bound as much by the FFP, we will spend some money but very wisely. It is about time for the fans to show Khan some respect and stop singing that stupid MAF song! Congratulations and thank-you Mr Khan!
Replies
John' you are right! I also think that Khan is no Micky Mouse. He knows the challenge of the premiership, and buying players like Mitrovic is a must! Saying that, Mitro is hoping for a good world cup campaign, and he might have bigger ambitions than Fulham. He is an old fashion hold up player that suits us, and i just wonder how many big clubs will come in for him. I think he should take the hint and stay with Fulham, because everything is ticking for him at the cottage. It doesn't always work out swopping clubs and he may well find that out the hard way. What isn't broke, don't fix it! Mitr could have a happy 5 years at Fulham if he chooses to. 100 AND 70 odd million? Khan can loosen the purse strings a bit and buy a few experienced players to help our cause. We are in a good place now. Sessegnon can well afford to stay with us another season, and there are a few more 000's on his price now. Imagine Villa's position? They have 5 or so loan players, and most likely we will witness an exodus. That is the price of failure to get back to the prem. PHEEW!!!! Breathe a sigh of sweet relief guys!!!!! That was a close call, but we can sleep easy now.....

I reckon we saw the best Fulham crowd we have had for years today. From where I was sitting, these enthusiastic supporters were a big factor in our victory today. I reckon Wembley suits our style of play. Let's get back there asap.

After a brilliant 45 minutes Villa came out with intent. They got on top but our defence held, which surprised me. Cannot praise the lads too highly, especially after the sending off (will SJ risk playing D.O. in the EPL?). Having spent a few sleepless nights since April, I can now relax and put in my 8 hours uninterrupted. I'm sure a few of you will do likewise. With all those millions coming in, will SJ get the players he needs for the EPL. I'm thinking 3 or 4 defenders and 1 forward, probably cost net 60-70 million but it will be worth it to keep us up.
Replies
SJ prefers Odoi to Kalas, and he did score the winner against Derby, so I don't think SJ will want to lose him. He may not make the starting 11 next season, but is still a useful defender who can cover any position in the back line.

Jokanovic Fulham Coach Slavisa Jokanovic Fulham Coach Slavisa Jokanovic Other Slavisa Jokanovic Stories Fulham striker Aboubakar Kamara Fulham striker Aboubakar Kamara More Aboubakar Kamara Stories His Wiki page Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic says he is ready to use Aboubakar Kamara as an “important weapon” in the play-off final against Aston Villa. Kamara was influential on the right wing in the semi-final second-leg win over Derby and Jokanovic wants to use him to similar effect at Wembley. Jokanovic, who wants his side to pressure and tire Villa centre-backs John Terry and James Chester, said: “We signed Kamara like a striker, who can play up against the centre-backs. “I tried to adapt us to use him the best way, but two months ago I explained to him that now this position is covered and we are going to start with Aleksandar Mitrovic, and he needed to open his mind and think about different positions. “He is a really strong and fast player and we started working with him in different positions, and step-by-step he started to improve himself. “He played very well against Derby and he is ready for the game and can be an important weapon for our side. “I can't say who we are going to start with. It”s going to be a long game and we are going to see. “It’s important for us to force them. If we don’t make them tired it’s going to be easy, especially for their two centre-backs. “So I am going to try to use my best weapons, and the game can be long so we are going to use the bench too to try and force the situation.

Prem days & that Europa run too. I am privileged & honoured he is accompanying me today, he cared for my Nan 12 years until she passed away & it will be the first time he’s seen FFC in 15 years & if we can win this game today, he tells me his whole life will make sense?? First half hour , cagey affair , then they score and shut up shop. We then push and push and eventually our footballing philosophy as well as youth takes over , we the equalise , white wall goes wild , team is pushed on by this and we get a second to finish off the Villa and away we go proper happy. Love it hey

We had our best chance to gain automatic promotion at Birmingham and we blew it. I can envisage us doing the same at Wembley, because Villa will handle the pressure better. As much as I want us to win this match, we'll need a great deal of fortune and precision finishing to succeed. It's imperative that Kamara starts this match because we need to press from the off, not play tippy-tappy as Villa could get an early goal and shut up shop.

Very profound Geezer. It will indeed. Cor there has been some rubbish talked on here recently. We did blow it at Birmingham, but that’s water under the bridge. Win or lose I just hope we, and Villa give a good account of themselves and that the best team on the day wins. It would be great if all the fans and impartials come away saying that that was a great advertisement for football and great entertainment. On balance I think and hope we will edge it. Anyway, all we can do is make a lot of noise...clappers or not and give the team the support they deserve. It’s going to be close and I’m too old to feel this nervous:))) Have a great day everyone. I would have thought that Villa would be favourites to win at Wembley , not so the bookies feel we are the better team. My biggest concern is their manager who has plenty of experience in play - offs. True we did blow away the chance to already be promoted so let's hope we grab this opportunity and give us all the chance to go a bit barmy his evening

I’m not sure we did blow our chance against Birmingham, in so far as Cardiff would have played their last 30 minutes totally differently, had we been ahead. I cannot believe that they would have finished as they did, had we not been down and out by half time

I am haunted on a daily basis, by that last minute goal by Brentford, which as it turned out, stopped us getting automatic promotion. Up until today, I was quite confident that we would beat Villa at Wembley, but after listening to the so called experts, including Danny Murphy, who don't think that we have a chance, plus reading all the press reports, where I have not seen one paper that gives us a chance of winning, I now have a serious feeling that we are going to come away as losers. The only ones that seem to be backing us are the bookmakers, whom still make us odds on favourites to win. I am already shaking with nerves, so goodness knows what I will feel like come KO time. I know that it's only a football match, as my wife continues to tell me, no ones life is at stake, but it does mean so much to us fans. I don't want to have to go through all of this again next season. COYW

PUNDITS... SMUNDITS......ididl speculaters, like so many. The Birmingham result is a fact. All dropped points be they against Brentford, are just that, many during the season, none more relevant than the other. I think your comment is speculative Rm, we don’t know that would have happened. What we do know is if we’d beaten Birmingham, we wouldn’t, Geezer and me at least, be shi**ing ourselves now:)) Basic fact was we knew what as needed at Birmingham and unfortunately we didn’t step up. Anyway, here we are. Hope you all have great day, the sun shines and we go home with a win.COYWs.

ok so I know football is not won on paper but looking at the two teams (and likely line up tomorrow) I wouldn't swap one Villa player for any of our players. Now that says everything about how we must be confident tomorrow. The nearest... would you swap Grealish for Cairney (I wouldn't) and I wouldn't swap Adomah for Sess or McDonald for Jedinak. Have a go yourself there really isn't a swap to be had and when you look at it like this we really have the better players. Just hope Jokanovic has them playing the best as a team tomorrow.

What price experience? I hate the guy, but I’d give a lot to have a ‘JT’ figure on our books. Saying that, if we play with pace, flair and no fear, then our relative youth will prevail. Joka will need to earn his seed corn tomorrow, by instilling confidence, discipline and determination ....there can be not room for fear or failure to fight for the cause

7 of Villa's team is 30 or older, We have only one 30 year, the imperious Tim Ream. Just remember what happened in the first 10 minutes (ok I know they scored) but Bobby destroyed Cannavaro who was in his day one of the greatest centre halves ever, But on that night he showed his age and after 10 horrendous minutes was sent off and the rest is history. So to tomorrow. If Mitrovic is on fire, Terry will find it difficult. What has really wound me up is talk of Villa's experience. Yes they are old on their last pay day and lots who have seen better days, I think we will be hungrier PS With that rant and logic, Kamara should start! Just convinced myself #COYW

Whatever happens tomorrow, we have had a season to remember, and win or lose, we should be proud of what the lads have done. For any side In the Championship to go on a 23 unbeaten run was superb, in a very tough league. Hopefully we will be victorious tomorrow, but if we fail, then surely next season will be third time lucky, and we will not only be promoted, but with no early season falters, we will run away with the title as well. The proviso is that we keep this squad together, for one more bash.

I must say that unlike most people on this forum I don’t expect Jokanovic to pick AK to start on Saturday. I’m not convinced he trusts him to do his defensive duties. And the worst thing we can do is go a goal down early because Villa will do a Chelsea and just shut up shop. I think he will start with Piazon and give him 65 minutes
Replies
Bassim' are you insane? Piazon dude! Take a re-wind back to Sunderland- Kamara came on for 60+ minutes and won us the game. Piazon and Aite have played regularly and have not really been productive, piazon scored a goal but gave the ball away too much. Aite misses gilded chance after chance. At Derby we came away losing 1-0 with those two. At the Cottage Kamara came on from the start and he was brilliant, and he was unlucky not to score with that 20 yard shot that bounced off Carson. Gentleman Jim who is commentating at Wembley was calling for Kamara to start before kick-off, he rates him very highly. If we start slow with a team like Villa, and go 2 goals down, we are sunk mate! They will be on to us like Brentford and Birmingham. We just cannot afford to kick off tentative and slow. Kamara is eager to please, and if he gets booked? We can always take him off early for precaution. At the end of the day, Slavisa will pick the team, so whatever he does, the sword will rise or fall on the result after that.

Slavisa knows that Villa's best chance to score is on a set piece. Kamara is far more powerful in the air than Piazon, Ayite or Kebano. Plus AK can absolutely terrorize at Villa's back four. This is a no-brainer. To me, the player I'd like to see come on around 60 mins, if we're tied or leading, is Kalas. He's athletic and powerful in the air as well.
posted by Drago (Guest) - Friday 25th May 2018, 6:31 AM

Bassim - Kamara has earned his place in the starting line up. Jokanovic has had a couple of weeks to work with him, And, what you seem to miss, we want to score goals and then we can bring on a more defensively guarded player. We have enough cover in midfield to allow Kamara to bomb on, it will also keep Hutton at bay from marauding forward. Shame you don't get this. And, regarding your earlier comments directed at me, I have always maintained that this is professional sport at a very high level, it might seem harsh to you but Jokanovic's key objective was to win promotion, if he doesn't do this tomorrow he has failed in that objective. Any failure requires and in depth investigation. And, by the way Guardiola, from what I have heard and read about the guy gives extremely high class motivating team talks as I would hope Jokanovic is doing during this past two weeks. Perhaps you mistake team talks for the superficial dressing room last minute bravado rant. Another mistake you have made.
posted by Tactics Board (Guest) - Friday 25th May 2018, 6:59 AM

and just to add about Kamara..following Jokanovic's expression of an old and tired Villa he would be foolish not to use Kamara to really stretch those tired old legs; Kamara will do this in abundance on the Wembley turf. And, of course, we have Kebano, Ayite and Piazon who can do the same should Kamara tire after 60 minutes.
posted by Tactics Board (Guest) - Friday 25th May 2018, 7:05 AM

posted by MST (Moderator) - Friday 25th May 2018, 11:41 AM

I agree MST the age issue is a non issue but Jokanovic mentioned it. And, if he were talking about Terry then he hasn't lost his legs as he was never that quick. That said, I do think Kamara's pace combined with Mitrovic's different approach will certainly stretch Villa this way and that.
posted by Tactics Board (Guest) - Friday 25th May 2018, 12:03 PM

Making comparisons between the average age of the two teams is meaningless. Of course Villa's average age will be higher than ours. John Terry is 37, and we've got Ryan Sessegnon at the ripe old age of 18, and these distort the averages. If you take both out of the calculation, I'd be surprised if there's that much difference between the ages of the two teams
posted by Bacchus (Guest) - Friday 25th May 2018, 12:05 PM

I can only assume Jokanovic mentioned the 'old and tired' bit to try and counter the assertions that Villa have more experience, he wants to dispel the experience claptrap from his team's agenda. Bottom line is though and he should have said this to the media 'I would prefer to have my players at Wembley than Villa's' that would have been a better reply?
posted by Tactics Board (Guest) - Friday 25th May 2018, 1:14 PM

First of all can i just clarify that I din't say he should play Piazon instead of AK. Far from it. I said that I expect he will. These are quite different things. Secondly i totally disagree that if we fail to win the game tomorrow it will constitute failure on the part of the manager. I literally do not know a single Fulham fan who, if told the team would get 88 points over the 2017-18 season would say that would be failure. This is clearly just bonkers.
posted by bassim - Friday 25th May 2018, 4:12 PM

Bassim the points total is irrelevant if two teams have more points! So you would play Kamara then?
posted by Tactics Board (Guest) - Friday 25th May 2018, 4:50 PM

Yes of course I would play Kamara. But I’m a fan so I believe we can win by playing an attacking game. I don’t for a second imagine that I have a better tactical insight than someone who has been successfully managing teams for years. And you can’t seriously be suggesting that winnng 25 and drawing 13games in a season, scoring 79 goals and playing some of the best attacking football we have seen at the cottage in almost a decade is irrelevant to whether the season has been successful

Just read the message from the Chairman on the Fulham website...it might just be me but it was hardly Churchillian, I hope Slavisa has a bit more 'our time is now' about it. I thought our Chairman's message was a little twee, the real fans of Fulham are NOT going for a day out at Wembley, we are going to watch our team compete in professional sport and to deliver our team back at the top table where we can surely compete and better the likes of Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Watford, Brighton, Southampton and on.

Always impressive when someone mistakes genuine class with lack of belief. I am sure you bear little resemblance to the Tactics Board that spent four months moaning about Jokanovic not understanding how Championship football works and only having one plan. Do you think Guardiola is giving Churchillian speeches before Man City go out and outplay everyone in the premiership? Hope I’m not sitting anywhere near you or your tactic board on Saturday

Thank you to your manager for making sure the mighty Villa will be more up for this game based on the fact that he stayed in his press conference that our team is tired and old and that he reckons you will run rings around John Terry. ( and no one has done that all season) What a total idiot as he just won us the match UTV

Well Steveafc I hate to be the one to break it you, but unless you’ve been lucky enough to miss Villa’s last 5 matches (and who would blame you for that) you have been tired. And if you don’t realise your team is old then I can’t help you with that. It’s based on numbers. And our manager never said we would fund rings round anyone. But again feel free to watch the actual interview

If that racist low life terry played for anyone else you would despise him like everyone else , as for saturday its a fact we are the better team so to see terry crying and the end of the game will make me , and all decent football fans , very happy , crossroads lol .

So you don't reckon he just given you a major problem as Bruce will use that to give our players the biggest incentive to play you off he pitch on Saturday. As for us looking tired you couldn't beat the Blue Scum to get a promotion place on the last game of the season and Derby should have beaten you more convincingly in the first leg. The problem with you lot, you think your Real Madrid/Barcelona when your a little team somewhere in the smoke

It's a free world so if you want to come over to the Villa Blog created by Damian and debate your case. But it is a well respected blog so don't imitate us with Brummie slang or mention Croosroads as some pathetic rural reference

I have to say the Brummie accent is the worst in the country, you just can’t take them seriously,so annoying to listen to people who can’t speak properly. You need an interpreter just to say hard luck better luck next season to them.

Steve all this talk about Fulham suddenly becoming cocky and arrogant is based on absolutely nothing. You guys must have fertile imaginations in the midlands. Steve Bruce can tell as many lies as he feels he might need to wind up hid players but a decent manager will surely be capable without sinking to these lows. Hopefully he has more class than some of your supporters who actually seem to believe that ridiculous propaganda is all you need to win a football match. There are many quality players doing battle on Saturday and the only sure thing is that once the whistle blows not a single one will be thinking about the mundane mindless BS that you guys are spouting. Do yourselves a favour and stop wasting everybodies time try to think about this event from a footballing angle if that’s not too difficult for you,
