Hey guys, hope all is well. Just wanted to ask a couple questions, I used to go to a lot of games when I was younger with my dad and grandad but I now live in Scotland. We’ve got time booked off for the Watford game in September was just curious if anyone knows of the best places to stay near the ground? And a few of the drinking holes for before and after the game? Obviously been a while since I’ve been down so just looking for some more info. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
Replies
I live in the Forest of Dean and travel to and from the games on the day most of the time however, ocassionally I’ll take in a show in the evening and when I do I stay in the Travelodge on Putney Bridge. Very reasonably priced and a small car park. Loads of places to eat and drink in Putney but if you want to be with fans then the Crabtree is amongst the best with a pizzeria almost opposite ;0).

Fabri not to blame. He depends on the defenders. How would you play with with strolling Chambers in front. He is the one who needs a kick up the ass.

Fabri is a dwarf. Proper Prem keepers (other than the Legend that is Picky) are 6 foot 4 like Betts who would've palmed 2 of those goals away yesterday.

So the trip to Brighton in a couple of weeks will be a time for collecting 3 points. Think again, Manure United are being taken to the cleaners and are 3-1 down at half time. Burnley lost 1-3 at home to Watford so there is a chance of our first point, but don't count on it. The more games we play we will find that in the Premier League there are no easy games. In my opinion, Cardiff and Huddersfield will fill the bottom two places, so what we must do is to pick up enough points to keep of that other place COYW
Replies
Wow now being negative about games a couple of weeks away, we must be the most negative supporters in the premier. Last season we were one of the best teams, no one thought this league would be easy but we don’t need pessimistic people telling us. Try getting behind the team.

Guy's i am behind the our team 100%. Man Utd should not be dropping points to Brighton don't you agree? Mourinho puts his foot in it every-time. His latest quote, 'MAN CITY CAN BUY PLAYERS, BUT THEY CAN'T BUY CLASS' Mourhino has lost the plot up there. The players don't want to play for him, are you surprised? He never rated Luke Shore and he knocked his confidence just like he does to a lot of homegrown players. Now he puts his arms around Pogba like they are best mates. Don't be surprised if Man Utd results are indifferent this term. Mourhinho is to blame!

In spite of two defeats I'm still optimistic about our new look team. Thought we did as expected at Spurs , BUT. The 1st goal came about due to a half heated clearance from Calum Chambers who looked completely lost for the whole game. The 2nd goal, well if the midget in goal was 7ft tall he wouldn't have saved that one. The 3rd goal came from Harry Kane who with exceptional ease put the ball past Chambers to slot the ball past the subway foot long arms of frodo in goal. This came moments after Kane lost Chambers like he wasn't there , luckily hitting the crossbar. Other then that I thought we were OK. COYW

After watching the Brighton match this afternoon, it wasn't that Brighton were brilliant, but I don't ever remember seeing Man Utd, play so badly. They looked like a team of lost souls. Some of them didn't seem to want to be there, and they made no effort to get back into the match once they went behind. On that display a middle of the table spot beckons for them, and I can see the end of Jose's days on the horizon.

I couldn’t give a toss about Utd or Mourinho , well done Brighton, bear in mind we won’t fold up like that bunch of spoilt brats who stop playing when their equally spoilt has been manager has a go at them. It’s called pride of which they have none. We will get something at Brighton as the one thing we never do is give up.

Owen, why shouldn't Utd be losing to Brighton? We beat them at The Cottage 3 1. That's why the Prem is a global brand & why we have been able to splash the cash in the summer.

We shouldn’t have beaten Juve or Hamburg so what’s so fascinating about Utd and Jose Mourinho?. Brighton also beat Utd last year so maybe they had every right to beat them again. We have a decent squad albeit they lack experience, but I am absolutely confident we will be ok this season. Let’s stop over analysing everything, it almost seems like a competition on here to see who can bring the most negative post to the table. Why don’t we see who can bring the most positive.

A fight kicked off about 15-20 seats to my right in block 117. So I'm guessing that would be block 116, somewhere between row 14 and 18 maybe. 3 or 4 guys were handbagging, stumbling over seats and creating a nuisance for others. Stewards piled in and it was sorted out fairly quickly. Whole scuffle a minute or two at the most. Somebody who seemed a bit knowledgable said it was Spurs fan in amongst our lot..but I couldn't say for sure. "Spurs storm Fulham end" seems a bit over the top!

Next two games will give a clear indication if we can make the grade . We should not get less than 4 points and the coming round of the carabao cup I would sacrifice giving non regulars opportunities and field our strongest XI so they can gel as if it were a useful friendly and not what weve had this preseason which has had little resemblence to the hard reality.

Is Fabri the new button?, may be at some stage S/J will get the message and give betts a game, as i have said before we should have got a striker in for back up, cant see mitro doing it all on his own,an injury or red card and we have no goal scorers at all, football pretty at times but no muscle in any position, can see why arsn let us have chambers, full backs caught out to easy, you cant hang about to long in this div hoping it comes right, we got players no one had heard of costing a fortune now we have to hope S/J can work it out long before xmas. Why did we wait till last day to buy? no idea we had crap pre- season and still waited , so now we will pay for it.OH yes ,will refs tell player to put the ball in the arc on corners not outside its annoying and illegal.

Watched the game again last night and to be honest we had some good moments. Mistakes made seemed to be technical mistakes not skill related. Players at times looked like they made wrong decisions when trying to pass the ball out of defence. Teams that try this method are subject to opponents pressing in numbers high up the pitch, so a wrong pass looks like a disaster. We have to be patient and allow all players to get used to the system and each other. We will pick up points and once we get used to the system we will be hard to beat.

We must not change our style of play!! I still believe we have the players and the way we play is mandatory they players gell, and that takes time. Those of you actually at the match - you say for 20mins how well and how spurs struggled to get he ball of us and we could have scored 3 in those 20mins!! That’s Jako’s Fulham! We need to be patience. I’d rather see us lose a couple more games and try to gell than start changing our style! STICK WITH IT!!

I posted a 0-4 loss before the game, and was pleasantly surprised with our result. Spurs, a settled, top 4 team, will muller many teams this season, so we didn’t do as badly as feared. We looked better, with improved shape, and proved a threat, st least at times. Last week’s result was poor, and I have no doubt that Joka was disappointed in himself for throwing in so many new players, before they’d even had the chance to train together. We are improving, and will continue to do so. I feel a lot better after yesterday....we will be ok; keep the faith

Like Rm wasn't too disappointed with the result. Spurs are a classy outfit with a few international stars and realistically we were never going to get anything there. Interesting that W Ham who also bought in a lot of new faces are struggling to gel.Maybe we can get a point or three in our next home game though we now know that there will be no easy games. But hey it's good to be in with the " big boys"

Just watched MOTD and have to say I think we have every reason to be optimistic. We have some quality players who will, in the coming weeks, become more of a unit. Have to say that the three Spurs goals were top class, they would have scored them against any team. Hope very much that Betts and Ream get some game time. Fabri? still not sure about him. Kamara did alright, didn’t he Owen? :)

Mortlake' team a bit disjointed but it was Spurs. I don't think Kamara was the worst on the pitch. Mensa for a big guy is bad, and his determination is zero. Chambers and mearchand all need to improve so does Kamara. Kamara needs to use his pace more because we lack pace big time. I think swopping him over with Sessegnon didn't work that well but there you go. Burnley next week will be hard but could be winnable. We have got to go into that game with the mindset that Burnley are competing in the europa league, and sooner or later they will suffer from fatigue if that makes sense? Why not go into that game targeting a win possibly? Your Brighton's Huddersfield, are playing top teams so they won't pick up many points early on. If we start gelling together now before we meet them, points will be 6 pointers if that makes sense. I really would bring back Dennis Odoi, Big Mac, and Johansen back into the fray. Some of the new guys need a gradual introduction into this prem if that makes sense. People will point fingers at Kamara, but there were mistakes all over the place, especially at the back. Things are looking better though, Cairney had a few pops which will do his confidence a boost, Mitro could have scored another 2. Play Sess in that left wing from the start at Burnley and Kamara on the right with scuurle in the mix and Mitrovic. We should give Burnley problems. Schuurle has got no pace so he can't run and go beyond. Kamara must be encouraged to use his pace. Pace is ace! I know somebody is going to object about that, just my opinion...
posted by OWEN (Guest) - Sunday 19th August 2018, 1:29 PM

Kamara is a willing runner, he just needs to know when to do it. He has pace to burn but doesn’t use it at the right time. If he goes on a mad burst no one can keep up with him and he will eventually lose or give away the ball, he is the man to start the high press, he can get to the player with the ball first, this gives the rest of the guys the time to push onto the opponents other players. It’s all about when with AK. I must say that yesterday he looked poor but he never gives up.
posted by Gazman - Sunday 19th August 2018, 1:44 PM

Gazzman, Moreline, agree on AK Kamara. Pace is his game, and we need to find a way to harness it at the right time. Just like you see a wild horse that wants taming in the wilderness, Kamara almost needs a harness, then let him go!!! Been watching too many Mountain men, blame the missus!!!

16-17: Betts comes in and takes us to the playoffs 17-18: Betts comes in and takes us to the Prem. Fabri is a dwarf and has cost us 2 mathches now. I love Slavisa but wonder why he won't give the gloves to Betts and let him lose them. To this point he's done nothing to let a prat like Fabri be our keeper.
Replies
IMO, Fabri played well, and didn't make any gross mistakes, like last week. I don't consider Betts would have done any better against Spurs. Nevertheless, I am concerned with Jok's comment that all three keepers need to earn their place. How can they do that if they're not given game time? The man's an idiot at times.

Were you guys at the match?? Did you not see some of the good saves by Fabri and, forget Betts, do you think any keepers in the world could safe the first two goals. I was quite impressed by fabric this week and he is definitely more agile than Betts - only disadvantage maybe is his size! Be fair to him.

John Agree with you all the way. And yet again the keeper gets the blame. Their first goal was lucky hit the post and went in. We hit the post and it went out. Kanes goal the defender should never have let him get a dig in. And Tom should have put his body in the way. And the free kick the ball went in the top corner. Why no keeper would get it .And thats where we need to be putting the ball away. LITTLE WHITE BALL OVER LITTLE WHITE LINE SIMPLES

Yes Fabri screwed up in the first game. Dropping him yesterday would have killed his confidence and his career at Fulham, and the £6m we paid. It doesn’t make sense to drop him as we need him for the whole season, whether as first, second or third choice keeper. The result is despite we lost 3 goals - he’s improved his confidence!
posted by John (Guest) - Sunday 19th August 2018, 10:19 AM

Yes, he made some good saves - mainly in being out quickly to smother shots. But I do think his stature is a major negative in the Prem. There are quality dead ball experts who will have clocked that he can't cover the top corners no matter how agile he is.He doesn't have the reach. He's also a bit of a flapper at crosses and even his good saves went back into the danger area. I don't know if Betts would have done any better but I'd like to see him given the opportunity.

Much more work needed to be done, and we need to start gelling together. Mitrovic got his goal and with more self-belief, he possibly could have scored more. There was one off the post, and there was even a small pass-off from Kamara which Mitro could have got on target. Tom Cairney had a nice shot on goal which was encouraging. We just need to gell more with each other in this league, and it has to be sooner rather than later. Slavisa has work to do, and must instil more confidence into our players in general. We can do this and we want to do so. Fulham are in the premiership now, and we have got to work harder for each other. At the back, we are a little nieve, and mearchand will have to improve for sure. It might be wise to bring Dennis Odoi back into the fray in my opinion. Odoi can be a bit kamikaze, but he has a bit of pace for me and a bit more awareness. Mensa isn't the answer and we might has well bring back some of the old guard Johansen and big Mac for me. I really don't want to point fingers too much or play the blame game. We lost a game where we know that we was never going to win. Let's go back to the drawing board, and analyse how and why we lost. Slavisa has work to do to instil confidence and self-belief into our boys for sure. Looking at the West Ham result mirrors the same problems we both share. Jack Wiltshire was vocal about West hams woes on sky. Both teams have spent big, and West ham maybe more.We are in the prem now, and i am sure that we want this. Burnley at home next? More work needed on the training ground for sure, we need to put in a shift against a hard working Burnley. Slavisa Jokanovic'' 'you must find solutions!!!

Couldn’t make the game today because of other commitments. Watched it on MOTD. Thought we looked ok considering we were a championship team a couple of games ago against a champions league team. If we hadn’t given the free kick away, and Lloris gadnt pulled out a great save to stop Cairney it could have been 2-2. If we could have converted the Sess and Mitro attempts it could have been a much different result. I know that’s a lot of ‘ifs’, but if we continue the way we’re going and get as a team, (as we surely will with more game time), i’m Confident we will take points off of teams and survive in this league.
Replies
Yes, we will survive and flourish in this league once the team gels. In recent seasons, we've been slow-starters, until players get used to the system and playing style. This season will be no different, but I'm comfortable with the skills of our new recruits.

A poor reaction to today's match. Call if you must Peter but most fans at FFC will want an honest man at the helm. And tell us Sam's most famous achievement was? We were beaten by a better and fitter side today. Most teams escaping with a 3-1 loss will not be too unhappy. The team is obviously some way off gelling. Keeper had a decent game and effort was very good all round. Might have done better to throw balls into Milo who showed that he is a good layoff man. Reminded me of Zamora. COYW

For goodness don't start getting disappointed after two results. We were the better side against Palace last Saturday, and we put up a pretty decent performance today against one of the best teams in the Premier League, on their own ground. It will take a little time, but we will be fine in this Division once everyone is fit, and the players get used to each other. We will probably shoot up the table once the International break has passed. We never expected to walk into this league and take it by storm, but Wolves did, and look at them. Did anyone watch Cardiff v Newcastle this lunch time. We are a class above both of them. It's going to be a hard road to start with but we will survive, just relax and enjoy it.

Glimpses of some great stuff from the team today, weathered the the storm in the first 20 minutes and grew into the game. I thought we looked good and had mitro put that chance away just before their second it could of been a different story. But can't complain we were the weaker side on the day but i think things are coming together. However, Burnley is almost a must win now for us!

I think Joka made the situation quite clear. I believe Betts was injured with 3 days before the season kick off. The club had to make a decision and don’t want to be caught out with only one fit keeper. They found and brought in a top keeper in Rico. What’s the club suppose to do? Deliberately bring in an average keeper! Anyway - it is what it is - they have to fight for the position based on merit and not emotion or loyalty! End of.

Slav does need to watch this. The team needs to be able to communicate with each other and it has become more French-speaking and Spanish-speaking. Especially the keeper. When you suffer a defeat or two, if you can’t talk about it, It creates a distance and even suspicion between players. The pecking order of the team was clear last year, this year it’s up for grabs, with Stef and Maccas positions under threat, Ream injured and Freddo gone. Are these new players mercenaries or are they prepared to die for each other like last years squad?

I think we will give Spurs a better game than people will expect. I am not sure we will win but a draw is definitely possible. The biggest problem we have is also the biggest weapon they hold. We cannot score and our defence is still need time to mature and they have this chap call Harry Kane - say no more! However, I believe we can match them for possession which isn’t bad for playing away, and we can make as many incisive passes from Cairney and Seri as their string solid midfield. I suspect we will start with Rico and we replace Macdonald with Anguissa. We will ask Sess to play further forward to counter their pressing. Otherwise, the rest will be the same as last week. What do you think?
Replies
I wish I had your confidence John. Spurs press high up the pitch as a team and we are not quick enough popping off easy passes so will probably be undone. We will also make mistakes under pressure that could lead to goals.

MacDonald was one of our better performers last week I thought and should keep his place in my opinion and I would not play Sess as he showed last week he is not yet ready for the step up to Prem quality.

We need to be solid in midfield so I would play Zambo and KMac in front of the back four, have Cairney and Seri playmaking and Schurrle just behind Mitro up top.

I believe we will get better and win enough games to stay up but I fear tomorrow might be a rout. I sincerely hope that I am wrong and it would be Fulhamish to bounce back from a defeat by a mediocre team at home to beat a quality team away but I still don't see it happening.

Away to Spurs and even at home to them, will not be games that we will be picking up points from, along of course with the other teams that will be expecting to finish in the top eight. However, we are not the only club with this predicimate, as there is a them and us with all clubs in the Premier League. When we go to Wembley tomorrow, we must use this more as a training exercise against a top team, and we must learn how to play Premier League football, on a weekly basis. Don't get me wrong of course we must try to go for a point or more, but what we must not do, is to be too downhearted if we do lose, but we will be expected to go down playing good football, as I want people to admire the way we play. We are going to struggle in the league for a while, but JS will get it right, and we will finish up in a very comfortable position in the table. COYW

MST' Spurs are one of the reasons why Sessegnon is priced at 40 million. If he doesn't play tomorrow, we lose a threat to score goals up that left-hand side for starters. Secondly, what message are we telling Sess, he is not good enough? I think he will be more of a threat tomorrow if Slavisa plays him up-front. Sessegnon at left back tomorrow and all remaining games is a disaster waiting to happen. If the penny hasn't dropped about that one, we are going to lose a lot more games this season. Yes there is a possibility that we might lose tomorrow, but we still have a chance. Spurs will press high, but we do have a few threats on the pitch. Seri will be a lot more settled, and we have big Mitrovic who will keep 2 defenders busy and we have corners and set-pieces in our arsenal. Were we off the pace last week against Palace? I think so. Especially Schuurle and Sess. Christie put in some juicy balls into the 'right' areas last week and nobody was quick enough to latch on to them. Ball to feet in the penalty box is not always the get through option, especially with better defenders in the prem. Sess and Schuurle need to step up in pace and run on to those balls Christie puts in. Thats his role on the pitch for me. Christie makes a lousy defender, and is more of a wingback sort of player. Don't depend on Christie to defend folks. I am feeling it now, and i hope Harry Kane is still feeling his Worldcup Blues. Kane didn't look quite right to me in those final games of the World cup, and maybe tomorrow he will have an off game, heres hoping. COME ON FULHAM!!!

Owen no one is saying Sess will play at left back so why mention it. If Sess is playing up front it will be on the left, part of his duties will be to track spurs right back into our half, which he done consistently well last year, the same goes for Schurrle. You correctly mention spurs will press high that is why our wide attackers will have to mark there forward moving defenders. Christie, in my opinion (so don’t go off on a tangent) was not accurate at all last week with his crosses and he will need to improve on that aspect of his game. Now as you mentioned if he makes a lousy defender then Schurrle will have to cover him..again in my opinion if Christie is a defender who you state is lousy (I don’t agree with that point) and I think his crosses are lousy, why is he playing.in short you have your opinion and I have mine so no need for one of you ridiculous rants.
posted by Robbo (Guest) - Friday 17th August 2018, 8:45 PM

Have to agree Robbo. I think Sess knows what he has to do and part of that will be to make life difficult for trippier to push on. Christie needs time but I think he is a decent defender who needs to work on his passing etc. Our new players will get better by the day in training so we need to be patient.
posted by Terry (Guest) - Friday 17th August 2018, 8:56 PM

My forecast was 2-0 but as yet we do not know the team. We should be better than last week but so should spurs. Against a settled side we will need a lot more than good approach work and near misses. Stop talking 'maybes' and watch the results. 0-0 would be a good result for us.COYW

Good points for game sat guys. Hope Christie improves his overall game. Hope to see sess back to his predatory best. We will have problems to cope with off the ball but at the same time the likes of Seri, Cairney, etc, can hopefully weave their way through the middle, and use the flanks quickly and intelligently. Interesting game tomorrow!!!

Even a bad season for Sess - he'll be worth 40m plus. He's only 18 - so he's got 2 years to play some amazing football to send his value sky high. Anyway - I know some people were disappointed with his play last Saturday but personally, I thought being the first game of the premier league, and Palace had a game plan to shut him out and frighten him - he did really well. Objective is to sign him for a couple more years..

We are a few days away from the Spurs game, and i have time on my hands, so here goes a surprise suggestion. Folk's bare in mind that a plan 'Z' in my mind is towards the next transfer window. If our plans and dreams are not going to the script? I suggest we go back to that nice little french club 'NICE' and bring back Mario Balotelli to England. Shock horror i know there will be a few fans heaving at the very thought of my suggestion. We have time to chew on this, and like every Fulham fan should be thinking right now, is that all our current squad have ample time to prove and show their worth, and right to stay with Fulham, barring injuries. Mitrovic's contract is set in stone, and we know he will do his job and score goals. We know what he does best, and doing the hold-up job won't produce all the goals we need to stay in the prem. Consider this stat'' Balotelli has scored 27 goals for Nice in only 38 league games! We need goals folks, and i am quite happy to share our goal stats between Scuurle, Sess, and everyone else i haven't named for Fulham. Our goal stats level out to between 8-10-15 goals between our players who can get them. Nothing wrong in those stats, so long as we continue in that mode. It would be nice to have a 25 goal a season scorer, and yes maybe Mitrovic or someone on board can get those goals. I am still overly optimistic that we can hold our own in the prem, but if all else fails? It will be a long and gloomy winter. Balotelli does come with baggage and a 3.7 mill euro pay package is a stumbling block. The genie is out of the bottle now, and we have hit the 100 million mark in transfers. I wonder what super wages Fulham are doling out now? Balotelli would need to drop his wage bill if he wanted to find a way back into the prem, but anything is possible. His disciplinary record is quite good at Nice, and he seems to be a reformed character. Age 28, scores goals, doles out money to poor people and maybe helps old folks to cross the road in Nice. Mario Balotelli' he sounds like a perfect gentleman doesn't he!!!
Replies
Owen - listen to Cairney. He's right that we must not lose the team spirit and togetherness we had in the championship. I think the balance is already at risk and at tipping point with some of the new stay players we bought! Balotelli is history and will never again be as prolific as he was 5 years ago! We don't need too many star players to crystallise our premier league place - we need team harmony, fighting spirit and togetherness to become a really good team!
posted by John (Guest) - Thursday 16th August 2018, 12:17 PM

John' i agree with you %100. My suggestion is only a dire emergency. There are many proclaimed goalscorers who say they can score goals and they don't. We will never get the cream of the crop unless we discover a gem under our noses. We may well have one under our radar yet? I am confident that we can get the goals required between our current squad. We have done it before and we may do so again. What if we don't by Xmas? That is another chapter and story, and for now we will enjoy our season.Just something to write about...

Blimey Owen, one game gone and it might be a long gloomy winter. Please take note: I am not having a pop just making a comment or Something to write about. Please further note l have not mentioned any players, I have not said players are not good enough, l have not dug AK out, but Ballotelli is in my opinion the funniest thing you have posted.

Robbo' even i know deep down that Ak might not cut it in the prem. I just thought,'hattrick', go back to Nice. Marchand. Seri, and Balotelli. (HA' HA') I thought it was a funny coincidence when i wrote it. I did say plan 'Z' though. If everything else fails. I don't think we will find a 25 goal season striker, but we have more than enough players that are capable of netting 8-10-15 goals which will do the job. Glad to make some entertainment on here. There is an irony in that nice club NICE' though!!!

Nope get rid of Buttler a master of the white ball game but doesn't cut it in Test cricket. With Stokes back, and with Curran a future star in the side exciting times lie ahead.

Danny C, local Putney boy, so of course we've got to make some allowances! Compared with the thuggishness of Ben Stokes, DC's crimes in Jersey seem pretty small-scale. The fact that due process in Cipriani's case took all of 24 hours, whereas it took one year in Stokes's, surely gives some clues as to the relative severity of each.

No one is perfect, everyone make mistakes. Stokes deserves another chance, I very much doubt he will be risking staying out later than usual at nightclubs from now on. I bet Botham got away with far worse in his day. If no spinner needed at Trent bridge could be rashid making way for stokes. Cipriani on the other hand is a lost cause, happens time and time again

The £2k fine he got was abominable and just pocket money that will make no difference to his way of life whatsoever. I can see him laughing with his mate right now. He should have had a six month custodial sentence in my opinion!!

Think I’m agreeing with you. Resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer! Make Stokes look quite tame by comparison.
posted by Mortlake (Guest) - Thursday 16th August 2018, 5:39 PM

Sorry Mortlake, can't see how you think that Stokes was " tame,," looking at the video he seemed to have lost it the way he waded in to the other guy. It would seem very unfair to pick him for Saturday's Test match - they managed ok without him in the last one, maybe let him carry the drinks for this match whilst the ECB decide what punishment - if any to give him.

You could be right Harry, but he didn’t injure a female police officer and resist arrest. Their sporting bodies will do what they’ll do and they should be made to pay for loutish behaviour and bringing their sport into disrepute. That said there has been a lot of hysterical talk about Stokes, which I continue to believe is ill founded. Cipriani is just a drunk with a history going back as far as 2008. I could be wrong but I think there were mitigating circumstances in Stokes case, time will reveal all I’m sure, them we’ll know who called it right. Would just add that Stokes has already been omitted from the England setup for 11 months. Some people think that that is sufficient punishment.

I think the issue is that too many managers are in awe of overseas players. It's their default when looking for players, rather than scouting what is available in their back yards. As a result (as all of us FFC supporters know), clubs have bought in an awful lot of overseas dross, often journeymen looking for their last pay packets before hanging up their boots.

Crikey, it was just an observation after reading the article that I posted above; I wasn't expecting Apartheid!

I have no issue with foreign players in our game. I support FFC and 75% of our players are not English so I would be daft to think otherwise.

It is however, quite clear to me that the diving and cheating in our beloved game has almost exclusively been brought in by foreign players and is it any wonder that the home nations teams in recent years have done so badly when there are so few English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish players making it through to the top league in the country.

In my opinion no league in the World should allow teams less than 50% indigenous players in their published squads for all competitions but FIFA will never do that. It's 33.33r% English players in the Premier League now; what will it be in 10/20 years I wonder? 10/15% perhaps?

If I'm still around, perhaps I'll have to take lessons in Spanglish ;0). Just a joke; no malice intended Nigel ;0).

Thankfully, just noticed they've finally moved that tournament to June for the first time. Seri already looks like our best player and reports are good on Anguissa. Along with Floyd and Kebano, ecstatic we will not lose them all for a month or more mid season. They will have some rough and tumble qualifiers during international breaks though. Plenty of opportunity for the squad to play should they need a game off here and there. Thought Seri looked solid v. Palace and will get better with familiarity with the prem and some fitness. Zambo should be the real deal. Just have to weather a month of growing pains until they all figure this league and each other out. Then Mawson back to solidify the back. Patience Cottagers. Happy days ahead!
Replies
That is good news regarding the Africas Cup. Personally, in this league, I'd like to see Zambo play along side MacDonald with Cairney and Seri in front of them and then Scurrle just in front with Mitro up top but we all know that will never happen unless it's the last five minutes and we are trying to protect a lead.

posted by AH (Guest) - Thursday 16th August 2018, 1:00 PM

Yep. Long time posters will know that I believe Sess has potential but a) the hype about him in my opinion is just that - hype and b) in my opinion he is nowhere near ready for the Premier League.

I've heard all the arguments for Sess before but I watch him every week and I see flashes of what he might become but by no means should we be building a team around him.

Just my opinion and I know that I am in the minority but there it is....

Not come on here to cause confliction, but i just wondered who will fill into that left-back position if Joe isn't fit? Denis Odoi might be the temporary answer in a crisis. Agree that he is not the most accomplished left back defender there is out there, but he is quick when running back on the counter. Believe me' Spurs will have many counter attacks that we will need to deal with. This post is not all about Odoi, we will need to be sharper in general for 90 minutes, especially our defensive midfield and defenders. Odoi can be a bit panicky, but he does have pace, and pace to track back when needed. Back in the archives, Denis has shown his worth in those situations. Anyway, Slavisa is the boss and he knows whats what. If Denis Odoi plays? My educated guess will be for that reason. Pace can win games, and pace can get someone out of jail. If you can run fast enough. Let's hope that Harry Kane isn't up to speed yet. COME ON FULHAM!!!

Odoi is absolutely superb in the air, and a really great tackler (unless it's against Grealish). I would have liked to see him play in his natural position more often during his time at FFC. Spurs will obviously be a hugely tough test (I don't think I've ever seen an easier victory than their 0-3 at the Cottage the last time we met in the FA Cup), but if he keeps his defensive head, and McDonald can mark Eriksen out of the game, I wouldn't be hugely surprised if we nicked a point!

We did not do too badly last time out at Wembley but Spurs ain't Aston Villa. Now we have to face Mr Kane (and he doesn't miss much) and Delli Ali, who Fulham once had the chance to sign from MK Dons. Dread nought fellas because SJ must know what he's up against. Many of our team wanted to play in the Premiership and if we had not made it wanted away to other sides now they have the chance to prove they are able to make it in the BIG TIME. I'd be quite happy with 1 - nil victory over Spurs, but we've got to be a lot better if we go one down because that was dead unlucky last week Palace scoring just before the break. Not getting the penalty also was a show up for the Ref too. I know SJ like Mr Hodgson does not like to berate Ref's but I hope he scored him down for the missed spot kick.

From a simple man in the street I just cannot understand how on earth they brought a not guilty verdict.

Think you need to get the full picture. Sounds like you’ve never been involved in a bit of Street dust up. If you see all the film, not just the bit that BBC show, you can quite clearly see and hear the guy hit someone with a bottle. Stokes intervened at that point. First rule of a street fight, make sure the bloke can’t get off the floor when you think it’s all over. Many years ago a mate was stabbed in the back after knocking someone down, in not dissimilar circumstances. I’m with Stokes and quite rightly so were the, 12 good men and true on the jury.

Stokes is thug and generally they are bad people and bullies. For those who understand the legal system here, it is not the judge who decides if he’s guilty or not. It is the jury. They are present with all the facts and decision has to be unanimous. So without the full story it is difficult to know. Only those who followed the full transcript can make a reasonable call. However, having been on a jury on a high profile case before, I can tell you decision inside the jury room can be easily influenced. Only takes a leader to argue one side to influence the outcome. In this case I think both parties should be guilty!

Nor me Mac, have avoided by the skin of my teeth, but have seen a few. I wasn’t really taking sides but was trying to bring a little balance to a very unbalanced set of assumptions. As John quite rightly says, unless you’ve seen the trial or a transcript of, you just can’t say. I’m sure the more details will now be forthcoming. What I would just say is Stokes was not refused admission to the club nor was he chucked out. He left, then returned and was told that licensing laws did not allow his re- admission at that time. He appears to accept this without any problem. Film evidence clearly shows this. The start of the fisticuffs starts when the Ali guy lunges across the road and hits someone with a bottle. At this stage Stokes gets involved, they fall to the floor and you can hear the bottle hit the road. Stokes grapples with him on the ground to get the bottle off him and that’s what he does. If the guy then got up and was still giving me verbals I would knock him out. Don’t see a problem. I think too many people are accepting the BBC and media hysterical selective, misrepresentation of the facts. CCTV film shown on TV ran to about 10/15 seconds, there would have been, what 10/15 minutes available. Showing him sitting in a police car with handcuffs on was an absolute disgrace. Was he seen to be abusive, stroppy, drunk even? No. I hope he has a case to sue the BBC. Showing such footage during a trial is to try to influence the result, something that I thought flew in the face of everything our justice system is supposed to stand for. Guess we’ll see.

I think he'd rather have been banged up that night than go home to his big missus. What a munter.

So true john , sat on a jury at southark crown court many years ago and was told by someone hurry up I got a dinner to cook.Still working out who pays for the fractured socket and damaged eye I saw one bloke with , surly it was an assault some were down the line, but by whom.

Reckon the jury must have been made up of the Barmy Army. I’m going to Trent Bridge on Monday, god forbid I have to show my adoration for Stokes along with the rest of the crowd.

Stokes was found not guilty of affray - which is about endangering the general public. The definition is quite different to that of assault. If the chap who he knocked out wanted to press charges they could have done, as it seems there is strong evidence of this from that video. I think it is telling they did not which suggests to me his side of the story - stepping in to defending a gay couple who was attacked by these two lads is the correct one.

I know it's a long shot. But I was a long standing season ticket holder before moving to Oz 10 years ago. (can show you all my old booklets if you wanted!) Everytime I have come back I have always managed to get tickets for the game. But no luck this time. Happy to pay over odds but not paying the silly corporate prices. If anyone cant go, changes mind etc please email me at Mat@WeeRide.com.au

I live in the Forest of Dean and I'm driving all the way to Wembley ;0). Plenty of parking places on people's drives from about a tenner dependent on how far you want to walk. Paid £20 in May but it isn't that expensive for league games.

Zambo in for MacDonald
Rico in for Fabri
Fosu for Christie

I really look forward to Cairney-Seri-Zambo combination in the centre! Some TRIO! We need Sess to be more alert and make more runs. Hopefully Bryan is fit and not as nervy. And Mitro is fit for 95mins and not just 70. COYW

By luck I'm going to be in Brighton the same weekend we play them and it seems that the game has sold out, bit of a long shot but if anyone has two tickets and cant make the game I would be interested in buying them off you - otherwise I will be going to the dripping pan up the road to see lewes fc. Also does anyone know if the game is moving from a 3pm kick off to the evening kick off for tv? heard a rumour - cheers

lewes fc tongue in cheek, they are playing Margate away anyway :), for anyone who hasn't ever been to the dripping pan its a very unusual stadium worth a visit if you are ever down that way - Darren freeman is the manager if you are old enough to remember him

Going to the match Saturday anyone else? Heard it might be lovely as it's sorts last game at Wembley. How not to be honest to be fair. Hope it's just a good manners game, think they might be looking for some twibble twabble tho. Which pabs is we doesing?
Replies
won't be the last game - Spurs will be there until at least end of Oct. Spurs will be without Son and rumours of Erikson going to PSG...so let's give them a big surprise! Tough game but even if we lose if we can out possessed, have more shots and have better passing accuracy, as we did against Palace, it will be a good indicator and we know we need to work on goal scoring.
