What club is blue and white all over? Fulham losing. ------------- Went to the club shop the other day and bought a large fulham kit. The receipt said, "half of us have arrived!" ---------- If Fulham were the only team left in the world, we'd have a better chance!------------- Doctor, doctor! I can't live without Fulham. Doctor says, "well I bought a ticket, didn't I!!"

Just to clarify, somehow this person has registered with the same name as me but has an italic of in his name. Sad but true. Any decent jokes or relatively sensible comments will come from the Chris of Jokes name without the italic of. I did write to the message board administrator but didn't get a response, so will have to put up with this bell end who likes a wind up I am afraid.

Been away for three weeks and expected to see a couple of new faces at Craven Cottage. Papertalk says we have signed a French and another Serbian international, but nothing on the official Fulham website from what I can see. All the transfers seem to have been one way so far i.e. out the door or on loan elsewhere. Fulham have 16 days to get their act together or I can see this being a Burnely one season wonder and straight back to the Championship and out best players will be gone. Who do you think we should sign?

Impartial - what’s up with you calling everyone an idiot with every remark? Wake up mate - not sure what part of the country you are from - such offensive language and tone is very rude, and from my perspective not welcome on this site. Your opinion would be valued much more if you don’t resort to calling anyone disagreeing with you idiots!

Mike' i agree,no panic, trust in Slavisa 100%. I was rattled reading the Lyon match report, and he played Sessegnon back in that dreaded left back position. Why put this young 18 year old back in a position that puts pressure on him unnecessary? Sessegnons best position is much further up the pitch, and in any case we have mearchant now who should be able to cover temporary? That is my only gripe about pre-season. I am not bothered too much about us losing games,Sess is all wrong for left back. He will be bullied in the prem if Slavisa has any ideas about drafting him into left back from time to time. That is my only moan, just saying...

Ignore pre season results! It doesn’t mean anything in. Pre season is about getting full match fitness and trying new tactics and about gelling the team. Result is probably the last thing on the managers mind. The only thing I read into the games so far is we need mitro back with us ASAP. Otherwise I think we are on track.

Hopefully, Mitrovic puts in a show ASAP, and that will help some with a nervous disposition. Mitro won't solve all our problems, but his presence and his big boisterous character will be a welcome boost for the lads. I am convinced that with the addition of Seri especially, the pieces of the jigsaw will come together. Looking at the Palace squad up front, and we will be playing them, we might need a forward like Wilfred Zaha to run off Mitrovic. Zaha has Benteke who does a similar job to Mitrovic. Mitro, of course, is the better player all round. I may be a touch optimistic, but i think we should have enough fire-power around SW6 providing we get another competent forward who can score goals. Mitrovic will be heavily marked in the premiership, and i hope that the likes of Kabano/Fonte/Seri/Aite/Kamara/ can chip in with goals? We should have enough scheme and movement in midfield to work it up to these guys surely!!! Slavisa won't take any prisoners and i am confident that we will get it right. I am confident that the likes of Kamara and your Kabanos will chip in with goals. RELAX AND DONT WORRY GUYS' EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY!!! HEY' CHILL OUT!!! WE HAVE SUN, AND MORE SUN!!!! YA KNOW WHAT I MEAN SON!!!!!!

Just read the report on the lyon match; i just hope we don't go through this prem season with the nonsense that went on there. I don't worry too much about us losing to a top team like them, but Slavisa is going into silly season mode 'AGAIN' by putting Sessegnon back into 'LEFTBACK!!!! THIS COMEDY CANNOT HAPPEN IN THE PREM! SESSEGNON IS NO LONGER REQUIRED TO DO A LEFT BACK ROLE!!!! SORT THIS ONE OUT SLAVISA JOKANOVIC!!!!! FOR PETES SAKE, CANT WE SORT OUT A LEFT BACK!!!!!!!!!

Okay Mark, you are right mate, i need to take a chill pill. It just gets my goat that Slavisa still switches Sessegnon back to defence. We will get slaughtered if he does that in the prem. I think that Mitrovics signing might be close. His name keeps popping up on sky news today. I think the fee will be around 20 million.

Even though it’s a couple of weeks until squad numbers are officially announced, I couldn’t help but notice Rui Fonte already switched to 17 last couple of pre season games - does that mean he has already vacated the no.9 for Mitro? Also do we think Seri should claim the no.7 off Kebano?? So we will all find out as it all plays out within the next 3 week’s!! #newdeadlineday #COYW
Replies
The number seven is usually a right winger and Seri is a box to box central midfielder so it is more likely he will take up number 8 or a derivative of the number 8 I would have thought but what do I know......

All this hassle with frendlies ,problem is we dont have many players on the pitch who will be in first team at start of season ,so don't prove nothing looking at so many players but that's all, just looking and season getting closer, they will be complete strangers by the time we kick of at this rate.
Replies
Crawley Town apart, we are not scoring any goals and that is a mammoth worry. We are not going to play in the Championship next season, we have joined the real world of Premiership Football again, and it's a different ball game. We must bring in another striker, presuming that Mitrovic will join us this coming week. He won't be able to do it on his own. I'm sure that SJ and Mr Khan are well aware of the situation, but we seem to moving very slowly in the transfer market, and although we have been associated in the press with several players, the major worry is, none of these names are strikers.

Well, Lyon did finish third in the French league last season, and so have qualified now for Europe this season. Its a club with a big crowd with the likes of Depay, trying out a squad they hope will do well in the Champion's League. And no Mitro signed yet. Everyone knows that he was key in the surge in Fulham’s form last season. We need him, or one like him. I expect a Fulham transfer window busy right down to the wire. Hold your breath.

I just watched the highlights. The first goal was a yard offside, the second was never a penalty, the third Betts beaten at the near post and the fourth our number 44 ball watching in the 6 yard area. 2-0 would have been a better score I reckon.

Reiterates what we already know, need additions. Desperate for a number 9, we looked toothless up top. Add a centre half, 2 full backs and right sided winger ,apart from that we will be fine ! Still have a time no need to panic. In terms of the game, Thought the penalty was soft which killed the game, competed in the first half without threatening. Cannot see Macdonald getting much game time this year, Seri will have the central role. Hopefully this week we will see some new faces arrive.

I watched both games in France. First game was actually scrappy but pretty even for about 30 mins then quick break and nice goal. Tried to push and Del a Torre nearly got on the end of another peach from Matt O'Riley. Sloppy for second. Brought on Cairney Sess and a couple of other changes and for about 15 mins looked better. O'Riley dropped deeper and did the holding role. Howler for the third from Betts I think..or maybe just a flukey shot/cross but tha was 3-0. Some younger players looked good..Del a Torre in patches, Jenz solid in defence, wing backs tried to play..Matt O does look like a player who always wants the ball and is looking to play forward. Last night. Our first team was outplayed in first half Traore was outstanding and theiir interplay had us in shreds..should and could have been 2 or 3 by halftime. Second half a completely different Lyon who allowed us to play more but hit us on the break..When second went in Slav looked disgusted and decieded to make wholesale changes.. Seri..v average I thought but only first game. Defence looked outpaced although Dennis looked good. Tom was OK but midfield was overrun. Second-half again Matt O'Riley looked as comfortable as any midfielder out there but in the end beaten by a much better team

Season we went down I think we had a really good pre season - counts for nothing. Relax. You wanted prem league and now get ready for the relegation battle and loosing more than we win - that’s the reality and why the Championship was so brilliant

Have we forgotten that to win games we have to score goals. Three pre-season friendlies have not produced one as yet. I don't care whether we are playing the likes of Reading or the Brighton girls school, even if we don't win, it is so important that we put the ball into the net. Even when we lost to Chelsea in a pre-season friendly last year, we did at least score 2 goals, in that 2-8 defeat. Will the Mitrovic signing cure all ills up front, I think not. Yes it will help but we will need more than just him as a striker. A lot has been talked about in the press about our ;prospective signings, but not one report mentions a striker. Without back up for Mitrovic we will be fighting a lost cause. Surely Slavisa and Khan know this, but time is now running short. Danny Welbeck might just be the answer ?

AC' Seen something about it on sky, but maybe not signed and sealed to the detail yet. Just like Klaven at Liverpool, it could be bad news for Bettonelli in the long run. If Button was still 2nd string, Bettonelli wouldn't have anything to worry about. I am convinced that Slavisa means business for the prem, and he is ruthless in his quest for recognition. Fulham will be a success in the prem by Slavisa's standard, and he will swing the axe even more now rather than fail. In the grand scheme of things, we are probably looking at the next Chelsea manager in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, he wants to make something of Fulham which is good for us now. I keep saying that Slavisa won't settle for 40 points and survival, he will ramp up the spending now more than ever. The genie is out of the bottle, and everybody is spending big to try and compete in this prem. Brighton, Huddersfield, etc. Its sods law, we have to keep up now!!!!!!

"Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing but there is a verbal agreement with Fulham. I want to thank Besiktas for my time here." Sources close to the deal confirmed to ESPN FC that Fabri has agreed personal terms with Fulham, who are expected to pay Besiktas a fee of around €6 million (£5.3m) once the transfer is completed. The Spanish keeper will be joining goalkeeper coach Jose Sambade for the third time in his career after enjoying spells together at Deportivo la Coruna and Besiktas. Sambada is a keen admirer of Fabri and played an important role in convincing the keeper to join Besiktas in 2016. Besiktas president Fikret Orman revealed on Thursday that Fulham had made an offer for the 30-year-old keeper. "There are offers for Fabri, he is training now but I don't know where he will end up," Orman told reporters at Besiktas' training camp in Austria. Besiktas manager Senol Gunes also hinted on Thursday that Fabri could be on his way out. "If Fabri leaves we are going to have to sign someone else with the money," Gunes said. "But if we receive a good offer and he wants to leave well there is nothing I can do. Every player has a price." Fabri joined the Super Lig outfit free transfer in 2016 and went onto lift the Turkish Super League title and compete in two Champions League campaigns. As ESPN reported on Thursday, the sale of Fabri could result in Besiktas pursuing a move for Arsenal keeper David Ospina.

I have just read a report myself, that the transfer of Fabri looks quite likely. The reason that I doubted it, was that I constantly read reports of fictitious signings that turn out to be nothing substantial, and I get a bit disappointed, after becoming quite exited. I am, like the rest of us eagerly awaiting confirmation that Mitrovic has signed, as each day we hear rumours that it is going to happen, then yet another day passes with nothing happening.

Our recent transfers have smashed our record fees which up to now was about £12m. With the two latest acquisitions coming to over £30m , Mitrovic another £20m that's over £50million. There is also talk of another player , David Lopez of Espanyol , for £30m ,wilmar Barrios from Boca Juniors , goal keeper Fabri from Besiktas amoung others. The fees are staggering. Now does this make us step up from being a big small club to a small big club.

London Evening Standard reporting... “Fulham are close to confirming a deal worth about £20m for Newcastle's 23-year-old Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.” Looks like it’s gonna be...WELCOME BACK MITRO but on permanent basis this time and guess still time to maybe further strengthen our squad with couple other decent signings..looking forward to decent season.... BACK IN PREM!
Replies
Great news Chris' another final piece of the puzzle. We need a hold-up man Mitro to carry the force. We will have plenty of wingers to create more danger and Seri going through the middle + Cairney and co with our passing game. I hope we can get hold of Matt Target also, he was settling in nicely last season. We will have a decent squad...
posted by OWEN (Guest) - Thursday 19th July 2018, 11:44 PM

Would like to add: I think we will get Mitro for 20 million. Newcastle and Benitez don't have the budget for a big spending spree this summer. It is well documented about Ashleys troubles with his business ventures. It would take 2 or 3 more clubs to show interest in Mitrovic to push the price up, and that hasn't happened. This is maybe because of the type of role Mitro takes up on the pitch, he doesn't suit most teams. Mitrovic fits in perfectly into our system, and he is a perfect ploy for our wingers to run off from. I can't see him scoring 25 goals though, that will be tough in the prem. Mitro will do the donkey work all day long, and assist others like Kamara etc. I hope Kamara will show improvement to back up my statements about him. It is not all about Kamara, i feel we have an exciting squad building, and maybe the surprise team in the prem. I think that Slavisa is more ambitious than we think, and 40 points and survival mode is not in his DNA. Just saying....
posted by OWEN (Guest) - Friday 20th July 2018, 6:03 AM

Another factor in our favour is Mitro's temperament. He's been known to be trouble at other clubs and didn't hit it off with Benitez. However, he clearly enjoyed his time at Fulham and has an excellent relationship with his fellow Serb SJ. I can't really see him going anywhere else

All this talk about a top half finish must be banished from our thoughts. Yes, dreams are harmless in themselves, but dangerous if the team starts to believe them. The Odds on us being relegated reflect reality, and we must concentrate on getting those 38 points on the board, before we reflect on dreams. The players must not become complacent, believing we are going to set this division alight; we will need to scrap and scrap for survival at this level. Better to be the underdogs and overdeliver......

...and another thing: we really must get a few preseason wins under our belt, as a winning mentality is contagious in a positive way, just as a losing streak can be negative. All games must be winnable, even if youngsters or pensioners are on the team sheet! Never set out to lose!

We have to face facts, that in the Premier League, we will only win one in three matches, with maybe a couple of draws thrown in. We are minnows in this division, but certainly big enough to survive quite comfortably.

For some time now the Premier League has been three leagues within a league. You have the top 6 that fight it out for the title and the champions league spots year in and year out. This is Boringly predictable apart from when upstarts like Leicester City decide to gatecrash the party. There is a middle section usually lead by the likes of Everton, this can vary over the seasons and is usually populated by teams that adopt a new approach, are streetwise enough to comfortably survive or show some sign of ambition. Scrapping it out in the lower tier we often find the newbies that are clearly out of their depth or have stagnated at the level and are showing signs of complacency. I may be proven wrong but I believe with our footballing philosophy and ambition in the transfer market we will comfortably slot into the middle section. Teams like Burnley and Bournemouth were written off by the experts and have not only held onto Premier League status but improved considerably along the way. We have every chance of emulating the success of these teams. I don’t quite understand the logic of William Hills as the bookies are usually pretty much on the money. As for taking points from the top 6 this task is far from impossible. After witnessing our incredible march to promotion last season this team has proven it is definitely up for the scrap.

Wolves fought back to draw against Ajax, and we found a way to beat them 2nd time of asking back in the championships. You just never know what preseason games tell you and we lost our first game playing the youngsters most of the game. We did more than okay in the prem for 13 years, and 4 years to get back in it is not that long a wait. Slavisa Jokanovic is a shewed character, and he might just be better than we think. He set up Watford and he departed them mysteriously. Watford not only survived, they compete very well in the prem. We are sounding nervous and some are going into survival mode which is a negative way of thinking. Slavisa is well astute, and he can get the best out of players that don't cost a fraction of what teams like Liverpool are forking out. Klopp will need to win a big one to justify his spending now, he has been at Anfield long enough now. Liverpool finishing 2nd or 3rd won't mean anything anymore, and it will get even harder for the likes of Mourhinho to win anything now. Players price don;t always mean you get what you pay for, it is all about astuteness and a manager needs luck to find that jewel of a player. Cardiff, Brighton, Fulham, etc we are spending 30 million and upwards, and in the end it is all about luck with player finding. We just have a nice passing system we hope to build on in the prem, and Slavisa is talented enough to gel these players and make us tick. We maybe looking at the next future Chelsea manager in Slavisa, and i don't think he is here just to survive accumalating 40 points....

Plenty of optimism among some Fulham fans about the upcoming season even some who feel that a mid - table ( or better) is possible. The reality is that we are one of the favourites for relegation. Realistically we will do well to collect any points from the top six clubs- we all know who they are and the next tier down the likes of Everton, W Ham, Palace , Bournmouth etc will I think be too strong for us. So all of a sudden 40 pts seems an extremely large total to reach even assuming we can take maximum points from Wolves & Cardiff? So guess the best thing to do is enjoy the ride and look forward to hosting the likes of Man City, Liverpool and dare I say Chelsea!

Top six is going to be difficult but I can’t agree with the rest of your comments. Team will not relish playing against us and will find it difficult to gain possession. I see we lost our pre-season friendly this afternoon, and some of our fans on the other site are starting to be a little concerned. May I point out the pre-season friendless, are just that, friendlies, and fitness runs out. If you cast your mind back to last season, we had a terrible pre-season, but then gained promotion. Whether we win or lose these games is of no consequence. Not only that we have not played even half of our full strength squad yet, and it is mainly our junior members being given their chances. Please don't start pushing the panic button based on these results.
posted by A C (Guest) - Wednesday 18th July 2018, 7:13 PM

Actually AC, I cannot agree with your comments. Preseason friendliest are a vital preparation for the new season, and not just a fitness test. Last year our awful pre sesaon start led to a shocking first half of the season. A haphazard and badly calibrated pre sesaon leads to a poor start, and we simply cannot afford complacency at this level, if we are to have any chance of survival.

You can watch some sort of highlights on the Fulham website or find it elsewhere if you don't have Fulham TV. Was low key and mostly kids till 65th minute when it was 2-0 already. Having said that, the more senior players, including Betts, let in a further goal and from the distant angle, didn't look a great one to concede. However, probably no need to be concerned at this particular result.

The story so far!!! the season starts in just 3 weeks time, last season we sent back 7 loanees, so far no loans have come in,we had Kalas and piazon for two seasons on loan so were are they now ?, still not signed why? do they want to much dosh?cfc want to much for them?,Kalas could not get his place in last seasons team so what I wonder does he want.Mitro, what he about ,I love Fulham want to play for them, but still nothing ,will Turkish club step in ?bit like Brexit,no one know what going on.So what have we got so far , two french players unknown but will wait and see think they will do ok, we are now a keeper down sold before replacement,so there it is just two in and 8 have gone ,I know !!! wait and see ,but will this lot start to gell at xmas like last season?

I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in Darlington, and he has told me that according to the local radio, which covers Newcastle, they have agreed to the transfer of Metrovic to Fulham, and it should be official tomorrow or Thursday depending on the terms and a medical. I hope that the information is correct.

The squad does seem a bit light, but I think we'll manage to arrange a few loan deals on top of the purchases which are allegedly in the pipeline. I don't remember the last team we had our business done before the season started- we are usually scrabbling for a player or two during the last few days before the transfer window shuts.
posted by 5crawny - Tuesday 17th July 2018, 10:10 PM

Weeeelll, you can't have a few loan deals in the tPrem, you can only have two. To date two players in, the reserve keeper gone and CFC in disarray with regards to the two loanees from last season. The pre-season schedule is poor preparation for an entry into the PL, in my humble opinion, but its value is dimished further if the hoped for newcomers, whoever they may be, fail to turn up. Are we harking back to the last pre-season debacle?

God you lot are depressing!! World Cup year's always cause concern re transfers this is worse due to the early window closure, but everyone is in the same boat and if it means we are signing quality then I for one will be happy to let the club do what they need to and see what materialises.

Tripper, Maguire, Henderson, Pickford and Loftus Cheek exceeded my expectations, Kane, Sterling, Walker were way below my expectations and the rest of the squad just did what i expected, not a lot... Now the dust has truly settled can anyone give me any explanation at all into the thinking behind taking Danny Welbeck and what options he offered the squad?? 5th choice striker who played 13 minutes of football and couldnt get a game in front of a striker who has now failed to score in 28 games for his country... Would taking Sessegnon have proved more fruitful in the longer term???

Yes , Belgium was a reality check - twice . In the 2nd game they could have let England have control of the midfield as the final pass or cross was never going to cause problems . Some good performances , as mentioned , but also some others who did nothing to enhance their reputations . All this talk about heroes and knighthood for Southgate way over top , nothing was achieved other than a good team unity .Still much to be done . Not sure who can provide the creative spark , no one jumps out to me .

It was a solid performance they beat who they are better than and lost to superior teams. The defeat to Belgium in the group stages made all the difference. in the last 8 I really only think they could have beaten Sweden and in the last 16 they could have beaten 4 teams so to get to the Finals was excellent.

We underperformed. We didn’t take our chances against a Columbia or Croatia. We should have been at least 2-0 up at HT in the semi. Kane missed a chance he usually puts away. We should have reached the final. We have no creative mid which is our problem so Gareth plays Sterling to worry teams, only he has been exposed as a player with no end product and so he is a waste of a place. We only beat Sweden who are any good. We lost 3 games - most ever. If you get s draw like that and don’t make the final it’s poor

Arizonian; i am starting to over-think things again, and that means i am getting my mo-jo back slowly, i will write some more... Fonte comes to mind, and i hope Slavisa considers a move for him. That might mean our board breaking the 'NO SIGNING OF ANYBODY OVER 28 RULE' Jose Fonte, could be a really good signing for a year or two at centre-back. We have his brother Rui' who i think could be a good combination for us linking up with Piazon. There was 1 game in particular last season, i can't recollect which one? Fonte and Piazon were brilliant. Jose performed really well for Portugal and the more i think about it, he would be a great signing for Fulham. Be warned though Fulhamites, with Slavisa having more say in transfers, it will lead to a massive wage increase in wages, especially if we get more flair players like Malcom on board. There is no chance that Fulham will stop at 50k a week tops. The genie is out of the bottle now guys, and we might as well go along for the ride. Lets all enjoy our stay in the prem, and long may it continue....

Fonte would add a massive amount to the team and may be able to do something to rescue his brother, although I think that may be a lost cause. If we could land Zinchenko then that would be a massive coup, although it's looking like Wolves may have beaten us to him now.

Just wondering , Tim Ream signs a new contract on maybe 25K a week and Tom Cairney signs a 5 year contract and it is reported he is the top paid player at Fulham on a reported 50K a week. This title last for 1 week when Seri comes in on over 100K a week and I would presume Mitro who is on 60K at Newcastle would be on the same or more. If we do get William he will be on a big wage , just wondered how the Captain will take it might feel he has been a little short changed !!!

Tezza' times have moved on so fast now, it was inevitable that wages would go up quickly while we lingered in the championships 4 years. 50/60 k a week is the norm now i think. Any Fulham player still stuck on 25k weekly and still happy about it, is a saint. I think Chelsea loanees are on 25k weekly.

I am confident our board are making good negotiation skills on the transfer market, I think it will be a matter of time before we call quit on Newcastle and leave them to keep an unhappy player who doesn’t want to be there. I’d would not be disappointed with our board if we did that! Newcastle are desparate for the money, they don’t want Mitro so the stand-off with them is completely down to greed and wanting to get the very last penny out of a player we helped to bring back from the dead. So if we don’t resolve this in the next couple of days it’s time to stick the two fingers at NUFC. £20-£25m - I am sure we can find an equiv or a better player!

The World Cup final was a perfect blueprint for excellent football that Fulham can learn from. France are the worthy winners outright, they just have that cutting edge based on their counter-attack for me. If Slavisa and Fulham have any ambitions to break into the prem top 8, and i think all this is doable by the way, we must take a leaf out of the way Croatia go about their business. Fulham already have the reputation for playing good passing football back in the championships, and things can step up a notch or two in my opinion. If there was a weakness in our way we go about things, we can be a touch slow with our ticky-tacky football. This won't work in the prem, especially when playing teams like Liverpool, they will be all over us like a rash! Slavisa like the intelligent scholar and master of the arts will know this 100%. I disagree that it will take a few seasons to adjust to the prem, and we won't necessarily have that time to do so. We already have a decent enough midfield and with additions, it is being improved upon all the time. Croatia play the perfect possession football, and they press the ball perfectly with timing and skill. I think we have the players to replicate this, and Slavisa and our excellent coaching staff will implement some of this taken from the final. Those cutting through balls by the French, love them or hate them, are just brilliant, and we must take a leaf out of their way of playing too. I know some people will argue that we don't have those type of players like Rakiti, persic, Mbappe, pogba',etc, and they are correct. We do have decent players who want to play perfect football and love football. Practice makes perfect, and with practice and good coaching what we have down here at SW6, we can achieve all this. If not, at the very least move up a notch or two in our game. The bottom 8 in the prem will always flirt with relegation season after season, but there is no reason why we should be a part of that struggle if we carry on improving our football. We must believe we can compete and stay in the premiership. We had a good 13 years stay in it, and for most of it, it was enjoyable. Fulham can do so again with a resolute, ambitious, and forward thinking managerial set-up. Slavisa Jokanovic and team will make Fulham into a force again, but this time things will only get better. Fulham are in the premiership, can you believe that??? Now lets go and enjoy it.....

Perhaps a bit long, but a good read. What I learnt from yesterday was that the England team punched above its weight due to week opposition; we are nowhere near being able to compete with the top 6 countries, and should certainly not be happy with our current standing in the world. Football coming home? More a fantasy than a dream. School report should read: ‘could and should do better”

Billy if only you show a fraction of the passion Owen has on Fulham, we be a much stronger club. Not that I agree with all points made by Owen - eg a bit too optimistic to mention France and Fulham, apart from both have 6 letters and starts with F, in the same breath but then again , I do think Fulham could do better than many teams have seen in the world cup! Not sure what you are looking for in here - even mourinho talks bollocks sometimes!

Ok John, I have been going to the cottage since 1964 and am extremely passionate about the club. Owen is also passionate but read his posts through and he is constantly contradicting himself. He starts his last drawn out post with Fulham can learn from France. A couple of sentences later we must take a leaf from the way Croatia play. He goes on that we are a touch slow which won’t work in the prem, if we don’t do as he suggests Liverpool will be all over us. He disagrees that it will take a few seasons to adjust in the prem. Disagrees with who?.Croatia play perfect possession football. THEY LOST. Then he goes on about cutting through balls by the French. He finishes with Fulham can be a force again, after watching us for 50 plus years I can’t remember when we were a force, as much as I want them to be. Fair play to him for his total support of Fulham but why can’t he post what he thinks and stop padding out the content? COYW .

Billy' i understand your points about my way of writing etc. I am not the complete writer and apart from MST, most will get some points wrong, i admit to that. The France Croatia game, i was watching it from a neutral point of view. France are the worthy winners. Saying that we can learn a lot from the way Croatia passed the ball around the midfield in general. I keep bringing all these points up on this forum every now and again but trust me, proper football lessons are very repetitive and that is the best way to learn. We play passing football at Fulham, so why not take a few pointers from the final? I tried to get points across from both sides and failed miserably. I can be a touch too optimistic but saying that, somebody has just put Fulham top 6 if we get Malcolm the Brazilian on board. Billy, you have got to laugh about that one, i said top 8! If we get Malcolm on top of Seri etc, and Mitro if he comes? Why not aim high? Now the shackles have been released, and the purse strings are open, i think that Slavisa has higher ambitions than just to survive in the prem. The only danger now is spending too much and players wages are at a record high now. Seri apparently is on a record one hundred thousand a week!!! The genie is out of the bottle, we might as well be happy and go for it now. I hope we don't end up doing what Villa and a few teams before did.

Look Owen, no one likes a passionate Fulham fan more than I. I can appreciate your comments, most of which are very good, sensible and more importantly for the good of our club but for gods sake let’s play our way instead of making comparisons with other clubs many of which will find us very difficult to play. Liverpool have Klopp and his fast high pressing football, what have they won, do you think Henderson will handle our midfield? I don’t.. We have Slavisa who will know the way every team in this division play, his signings are clever, astute and after a short time on the training pitch will manage to compete against any side. Let’s just get behind him and enjoy watching opponents trying to work us out..

Billy, if Owen has totally contradicted himself (which I can see no direct evidence of), maybe you need to take your own advice and I quote... "...montonous, repetitive, drivel..." in your first response to Owen's post, later assessing his "drivel" by stating, "I can appreciate your comments, most of which are very good, sensible and more importantly for the good of our club..."! Owen might see life through rose tinted spectacles sometimes, but I bet he's added years on to his life by doing so! I applaud his enthusiasm and passion, even if I don't agree with everything he says. Maybe he's been offensive to others on this board, but I don't ever recall seeing it. If anybody finds his approach offensive or irritating, they probably need to take a harder look at themselves, rather than blame him!

Scrawny, I have been reading the posts from Billy and Owen with interest and I must admit Owen does go on a bit, Billy has at no stage said he finds any offence so why have you mentioned it. Perhaps you should butt out and take a look at your post which to be honest borders on offensive.

I do write some over the top crap, and i will cut it down a bit. You should see me at work on a Monday morning. I am one of those guys that can come in chirpy and smiling, while other guys need time to clear their beer heads or whatever. That's just me in a nutshell. I would feel bad if Billy leaves totally. Let's just drop this because we are all nice people, and that is why Fulham win the nice guy awards a lot. Nothing can be as bad as Brentford stuck in the championships! That is the worst pain ever!

Played 6 won 2 drawn 1 lost 3! Good World Cup ? Not too convinced myself,I was excited like the whole country but not sure how much progress we’ve made. Southgate probably the man for the job but we have a long way to go until we progress as a top international team.
Replies
We beat nobody in a perfect cup run you would normally pray for. Struggled to get past Tunisia and columbia and couldn't beat a number of mediocre teams. Not a lot to get excited about even with a young team. If we are proud of that we set very low standards.

We finished above Brazil, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia and uraguay. We finished behind France, Belgium and Croatia - we can’t really expect to be ahead of them! So record will also tell us we had a good World Cup!! But I agree with you - we had a bit of luck and if it was a league table with all the World Cup teams - we would struggle to finish in the top half! We don’t have a strong team so Southgate has done a good job! He’s obviously have take a leaf from Jokanovic’s football book but if the last 24 months for Fulham was a 24hr clock, England is still stuck at 6am! Too slow at times. Lacked creativity. Too much passing in own half and haven’t found a player like Mitro.

Considering the expectations pre tournament reaching the semi finals has to be seen as real progress regardless of the opposition involved. I can never understand the desire of so many English supporters to continuously highlight the negative. The press are always famine or feast we are either crap or world beaters this nonsense should be ignored. The English team was probably at its lowest point following the dismal showings in the 2 previous tournaments. Surely even the most negative punters out there can see that some progress has been achieved this time around.

It's not being pessimistic it's just speaking the truth and not getting carried away. We had an easy run but as soon as we met anyone who could play we were put in our place. If we had met Brazil Germany or Argentina who are all in a bad place they would have beaten us. We did play well against Sweden and panama but that was it. We had the best keeper at the tournament but will never get such a good chance again. I assure you the top teams will be a lot better as I hope we will be.

Think three or four of the team emerged with great credit, but most of the established players Kane, Deli Ali. Sterling to name just three, looked lost for ideas. If Gareth gives the likes of Sess a chance who knows we might have a decent Euro competition in a.couple of years time- but still look long way behind the French.

I think we all have given England some credit and infact, a big pat on the back for what they achieved. I also think we must not treat them like 5year kids when we are of allowed to give them some truth and where they have done bad and can improve. They are not kids. We should give them a balanced view and be honest on where we can improve and congratulate them on what they have achieved.

Just read that Southgate is to make as few changes as possible, because the team wants to go out on a high note and finish third. In which case he should make changes to his starting line-up, e.g. replace Sterling and Lingard with Rashford and Vardy. Replace Young with Rose and we will sew up the match by half-time, providing Kane and Alli start playing again. It's not rocket science, Gareth, it's called team rotation when we have a strong enough squad to do so. IMO, only Pickford, Stones and Maguire have enhanced their reputations - the rest of the first-choice eleven have been nothing special, and that includes Kane in the last couple of games.

Yeah, well tough luck, England who were the better team for most of the second half, after the reshuffle. Owen, Rose plays down the left, not right, and I agree he was woeful, but bear with him, he's recovering confidence following a cruciate ligament injury that several years ago would be the end of a player's career. And I accept I know zilch about what's happening behind the scenes in Russia, SirH, but I do know that playing Kane and Sterling together first half was not a good idea, to put it mildly, as neither had any attempts on goal or looked likely to. Kane looked a shadow of his earlier games, and Sterling still runs around like a headless chicken for England - and was as deadly as a cockroach in the goal area. Both Rashford and Loftus Cheek definitely have a future with the England team once they gains International experience should retain their places.
posted by stephen terry (Guest) - Sunday 15th July 2018, 2:41 AM

And I would congratulate Southgate's second half changes, apart from Lingard, who blows hot and cold but mainly cold - and Delph playing LB was excellent for England in that position. Pep sure knows how to coach his players, even Sterling scores goals for City.

I actually wagered 2 paper clips on France to win the World Cup, and Fulham to finish in the top 8. I think my first half might be fruitful, but Fulham top 8, is possible. Even if we finish, say 10th, i would be ecstatic! The crucial point i am trying to make is that we, us fans should be sending a message and positive vibes out to our team that we are up for the prem and ambitious. What are we achieving by sending out vibes about relegation? We really shouldn't do that to our players that got us through a Wembley final. We have just had confirmation about 2 decent signings and in my opinion, we should be aiming higher now. Let's send some positive to our players who have stuck around. Players like Tom Cairney who has just signed on for 5 years. If i was a footballer reading this forum, it wouldn't be nice to sign on for 5 years and fans giving negatives out. We have a lot to be excited about, and Khan is loosening the purse strings now. I am peed off about Liverpool getting Shaqui on the cheap by the way. 13.5 million? Stoke let themselves down big time. I wouldn't have let Shaqui go for any less than 2o mill. There you go though, and good luck to him. Shaqui would have more game time down at Fulham in my opinion. I could be wrong and we will see. Seri made the right call in signing for Fulham because he would not have gotten too much game time at Chelsea. If he plays a blinder this season, big clubs will come knocking for sure, and his price will rocket up. The good thing is, Fulham are now street smart, and we are putting pen to paper and securing deals. Dembele at Celtic, i wonder if there are any regrets from him? Lets get ready to rumble, by the way, where is MITROVIC?????
Replies
So if we finish 10th you would not be shocked ? Different from your other post. And who is sending out relegation vibes? Now your peed off with Liverpool. Why can’t you just enjoy what is happening at this moment instead of going over the top with everything.

Guy's, i am sure we can achieve top 8, but even if we finish 10th or 12th, we survive. The most important thing is to stay in the prem first time of asking. I could have suggested the easy solution to the equation and rounded it up to 40 points for safety just like most people do. As Fulham fans we should aim higher, and there are good reasons for this. We have a very good and ambitious manager, and he has the gift of the gab. We have made 2 very good signings in Seri and Marchand from Nice. Listening to them both on FTV Freeview, tells me these guys are here to play football in the right way. They know and respect each other, even though they are from different cultures, and they are both comfortable with a football. It is a very unusual coup to sign 2 footballers who know and complement each others game so much, it is a good sign. Matt Targett is still on the radar, and i like that immensely, Sess and Matt will know about each others game the more they link up down that left side. Seri on you-tube is out to impress and he sounds hungry to do so,Cairney and co will benefit. Seri is a lot quicker dribbling, and his injection of pace and control is infectious. I could go on and on about OUR team but you guys get the gist. Slavisa doesn't give a target or a specific aim for this season, but i guarantee you, he is not thinking about survival in the prem. Slavisa is slowly crafting a Fulham team that works and plays for each other. These guys are repetitively drilled and honed in their passing game, and they will be even more psychi and close to each other. Watching the England team against Belgium, there is no psychi amongst the players. England midfield don't know when to pass/ stick or twist. Sessegnons name was mentioned with a few others for the future. Sess would have made a lot more intelligent passes than Stirling or lingarrd for sure. I will be jumping hoops if and when we finally sign Mitrovic, and Targett. We don't have Sam Allardice and his 40 points mentality, and Slavisa is way more football minded. Why would any Fulham loving football fan just want to survive in the prem? We have a history and tradition for playing attractive football, the prem is crying out for our brand of football. Watford was a success that Slavisa put together, yet he wasn't around to see it bare fruit. This time around, Slavisa is ready to introduce his latest box of tricks in the form of Fulham, a small, enterprising, and eager to please family unit, and players ready to surprise the premiership. What target and position will Slavisa have in mind for his band of brothers? Top 8??? Watford he will want to surpass, and 40 points and scraping the barrel will not be our ultimate aim and target...

An Englishman, a Croatian, and a Belgian are having a debate about the World Cup in a pub. The Englishman insists England were the better team in the semi-final, and that the Croatians got lucky. Naturally the Croatian disagreed, saying that the Croatian midfield was far too strong, and that England were simply not clinical enough, wasting some glorious chances. The Belgian, however, takes a more neutral stance and says, "Look, we lost to France, but I think..." All of a sudden he gets up and runs across the road. The Englishman gets up and shouts, "Why did you cross the road?" and the Belgian replies, "To get to the other side!"

Just read an article in the Express saying that England could benefit from the inventiveness of Phil Foden, and have Ryan Sessegnon playing on the opposite flank to Kieron Trippier. Foden was outstanding as captain of the young England team who won their World Cup, dare I say it he looked like a young Bobby Moore, and we all know that our Ryan cold become an England star.

I don't think it matter's who you put in the England side We are not good enough it's a fact there is an old saying white men can't dance . And let's be honest we have a team of robot's . And I never thought I would say this if we took the oversea's player's out of our league's it would be crap

If Fulham are in for a new Keeper why not Joe Hart ?

£120k a week! no thanks. Unless he's prepared to half his salary, can't see many takers.

Why do posters on here worry about how much players earn weekly? If the chairman feels things to be a good deal then so be it. Posters are not having to pay these large amounts.. my reason for not wanting to sign Hart is that I don’t rate him even if he played for nothing.

Mark, I agree and disagree with you. for sure its not my money. However, for example, I assume you'd have liked to keep Frederick. Would you have a view if the club should, for example, pay him 50% more than Cairney and everyone else? if not, rest my case. if so, that's my point - team harmony is very important for the fans. Why England have been successful in this world cup is we have (in general) a level headed team and everyone know where they in the in the team ranking and pecking order.

Because Mark , amoung reasons like FFP, why waste money on Harte and then not have the money to pay someone good. QPR wasted loads of money on the wrong players and they're in trouble. Look at Villa , spent bundles of cash and now they are in it deep. Could be another relagation for them. That's the way it is these days

Tom Heaton, Englands 4th choice is wasting away on the Burnley bench.

Why are some people obsessed with changing things that work? Betts has done a great job

Mark its always amazed me that supporters carry on about too much money being spent!!!! lets be right Mr Khan has kinda got a bit of an idea about business and financial stuff. ITS NOT UR MONEY, PLEASE SPEND AS MUCH AS YOU FEEL U NEED TO Mr KHAN.

John, it’s not for me to comment if the club paid him 50% more than Cairney it is the clubs decision. International football is different and I don’t understand what team ranking and pecking order is.
