One post suggested inactivity due to Jol's holidays.
I thought he was taking his hols in Central America - taking the whole team with him, too.
What a bloke, eh!

Just been watching on Sky Sports 3 Fulham v Sunderland, the game which I feel shaped the rest of our season. Up to this game we were flying high and looking at a possible top seven finish. After this game we went on to struggle to stay in the premiership. I think because of some terrible refereeing decisions by Probert who sent off Brede for a tackle which just about warranted a yellow card when just a few minutes later didn't even give a free kick for a tackle by Cattermole which was much more violent. Why can we not argue against bad refereeing? here is not ONE referee in the league who are any good and there is nothing we can do about it. Also I would add that Sidwell adds much needed steel to our midfield and his sendings off have been indicitive of the poor level of referees in the prem Managers, and players can be disciplined why can't bad referees (i.e. just about all of them)?
Replies
Yes, it was a turning point, both for that game and Brede's consequent 3 match ban. Like you, I thought the decision was very harsh. If you have a small squad that's the risk you take - key players out for long periods.
posted by peterjeremy - Wednesday 19th June 2013, 4:34 PM

Yes you are correct. The team is very sensitive and can not handle decisions going against them so lets hope it never happens again. I think that the light and wind were against us on that day also. I believe that Sunderland players were also muttering rude things to our players while the ref was not paying attention which does not help either. Why do these terrible things not happen to other teams? I may start following table tennis since much less can happen to put the players off their game.
posted by nick (Guest) - Wednesday 19th June 2013, 5:38 PM

You guys can really come up with some laughs at times.

Yes Brede's tackle was a 50:50 red card and Probert is one of the poorer referees.

But Sidwell got what he deserved. 2 red cards. As a seasoned pro he should have known better but as I've said before - brainless.

Other sides do get poor decisions against them. Usually teams down on their luck fare worst.

Favourable decisions? Dare I say Man U at Old Trafford beat all but not in Champions League games.

so today the press tell us we have made a bid of 2mill for brummie winger along with Swansea and yep guess who ?its Norwich again do they follow us ? now if that's the case do we not have an accadamy under 19 who we can play for nothing ?if not why do we have an accadamy? why does brumm have a 19 year old for sale at 2mill but we don't seem to have one at the cottage academy? we win every thing at that level but don't have any one worth while.

oh yes forgot the kid from Liverpool, wisdom 19 another kick up the jacksi for the accadamy lads.

Agree, and I cant understand why we are always linked to wingers we have enough!
We don't need a right back its a left back that's needed as everyone knows,I would rather we keep Manolev than to train up someone for the bloody Scousers.

Fixtures just out, think its a tough start to the season, see us struggling to get any points on the board first 3 games...

Aug
17th - Sunderland away
24th - Arsenal home
31st - Newcastle away

Sept
14th - WBA home
21st - Chelsea away
28th - Cardiff home

We play what looks like 3 of our easiest home games Norwich, Hull, Palace in our final 3 home games.. Hope we have points on the board by the time these games come up.

Replies
Think we could pick up a point or two at Sunderland and Newcastle. Plus home against WBA and Cardiff should be within our grasps IF we reckon we can have yet another season in the prem. So not sure if pessimism is warranted
posted by jambo (Guest) - Wednesday 19th June 2013, 12:40 PM

Surely the target has to be to improve our away record. A point from each of the Sunderland and Newcastle games would be a satisfactory start, and well within our capabilities. Neither of those clubs look like they are going anywhere, except maybe down.

2 top teams in first 6 games. I welcome it. If we can't take good points from at least 4 games we don't deserve to be in the EPL.

Looks like some of you will be wringing your hands if we get any more fixtures against EPL sides! Al, is right. An easy run in is useful whatever your table position.

It seems to me that someone should try a few options with the nearly talent we have.

Jol tried Richardson at left back. I thought he did OK. His problem is that he is injury prone and we made a mistake buying him. That said he's a trier and works for the team. Get fit or go.

Why not give Rodellega a try in mid field. He's built like the proverbial BSH, he's fast, he reads the game well and he can pass a ball. One thing he cannot do (evidence at FFC and Wigan) is score goals. Change him or get rid.

Briggs is no left back. Left alone he struggles. Put him into midfield. He's strong, quick and good tackler. Worth a try, surely.

Remember Bobby Robson. He thought he was an inside forward (old days) but at WBA discovered he was really a half back - and a damn good one at that.
Replies
Sorry but Richardson is rubbish, along with Senderos he should be sent packing.

No use either of them to our team.

Why is he so special ? Any manager would of been given the boot with 3 loses in 3 games! He's better off without it anyway. that must be the worst job in football we had 3/4 top player that couldn't be bothered to show or played for the senior team. That is only an excuse in England as all other country's make there youngsters join up with there under 21 teams when they are finished with the senior side.

You are right, there are no kids coming through and the future is not looking bright.

Therefore the guy who has been in charge of the U21 side for 6 years now is presumably one of the principal people accountable for that*!!

With two miserable tournaments now, he surely has to go.

Shame, I like the guy. As much as one can like a psycho.

* I appreciate that the PL clubs' attitude to (not) letting players play international football these days is not in any way helpful...

Pearce is a born loser. All he has is a faux patriotism and pretend 'psycho' image. Sorry but his managerial record is pathetic, I think you do actually need some tactical awareness in football, not just blood and guts. It's no wonder our u21's struggled with that no-brain racist in charge. I hope he never gets another job in or around football. Do us all a favour and join the army, go to afgan', blow yourself up..be a 'hero'.
Pearce, I'll never forgive you for Italia 90, and the big fuss you made when you scored in euro96...don't bloody miss the first pen you retarded prick!
good riddance to bad rubbish.

ok so why has it all come to a stop? no players joining ffc, been watching others slowly locating the odd players villa now have a 6-5 striker 1.5 mill to join bendecne and one other and I am sure teams around us will also do the job all quoting large fees.even Norwich not flinching at 6-10 mill, will we bring in a 5-4 western samoan striker on last day of august? Tahiti maybe;;;;; but with Johnson and ruiz nothing supprises me. jol has to spread his wings further that Europe,oh yeh w-ham and carroll now that could be suicide.

He has had a lot to say about having a settled squad ! when in actual fact he is one of the main reasons we don't have a settled squad with his sending off's and yellow cards..fans are running out of patience with him.
Replies
Reading between the lines, he wants Jol to stop unsettling the squad, falling out with players and selling them! It would be okay if he brought in adequate replacements.

If you treat players poorly, the truth is that they will not play as well for you and it will not encourage others to join. Schwarzer is a great example. The Club would have known for quite some time that they weren't going to keep him, so should have been given a proper send-off in his last game.

I actually think we were right to replace him - he's nearly 41 and, although he finished the season strongly, there were some question marks about his form early season. I love the guy and respect how good he was for us for such a long period of time, but if you get the chance to buy someone of Stekenenberg's ability, then it's a no-brainer.

I just think that Jol constantly fails on the personal side of management. Make those players work hard for you and respect you. Seems a little strange, given that is why he was reportedly so good at Spurs.

Sorry guys but £4million+ for scott parker does not make sense. The guy IS injury prone and Spurs have seen the light. Why else would they sell him? Let him go to Sunderland.

You dont give anyone a send off unless they are going and until we signed the Roma keeper Schwartz wasnt going.

You never know in football what will happen until its all signed off - like when Schwartz was off to Arsenal.

£4m for Scott Parker - crazy. Buy Huddlestone. Spurs want Parker gone cos he has lost it. He is not anor Murphy.

Parker is not and never will be in the same class as Murphy. He has his merits (when fit) BUT if it meant losing Kaka it should be a big NO NO. I believe that Kaka will be a very good player for us next season.

I read Sunderland are offering 4 million pounds for Scott Parker and that amount should be sufficient to sign him. I think Parker would be a great signing for Fulham, just what the doctor ordered. Offer 5 million for him. I think he is a very good player who could only help Fulham. He is hard working and a good passer from the midfield. Sell Sidwell for 2 million and sign Parker. Any thoughts?

A bit old and injury prone

Parker a great fetcher and carrier, but we need a playmaker. Huddlestone if fit has a tremendous range of passing, also has played centre back in an emergency. Class footballer, I think problems with weight and work rate overstated, really hope he signs for FFC

posted by denny (Guest) - Tuesday 18th June 2013, 6:37 AM

Definitely sign him. Quality player.

England CM not long ago. Exactly the position we need strength. He may be regarded as being injury prone and old - fine, he's 32 (33 in October), but I think his only real 'injury hit' season was last season.

Probably worth a gamble for £4m. Surely we can sell ourselves to him better than Sunderland can...

I think we'd get at least two solid seasons from him.

I would take a risk for £4m. If and i know its a big IF he stays fit then he is the sort of leader we have been lacking all season. A midfeld player who can go box to box and put his foot in and play a bit. Ok he is just coming over the hill but wasnt Murphy when we got him, he will want to put in a good perfomance to try and stay in the England picture so lets take a risk.

Think we should be raiding Spurs this summer, Huddlestone, Parker, Defoe, Assou Ekott all look out of favour and would all do a turn for us.

Only problem is they would no doubt want kacaniclik in return who i see as being a star for us next season in a forward role.

sign Parker and we might as well rebrand the Cottage as a full time retirement home.
posted by CarshaltonAl (Guest) - Tuesday 18th June 2013, 8:15 PM

Parker is better than any central midfielder currently on Fulham's squad, although I do admit he is often injured. I would prefer to sign Huddlestone, but don't think he will be available since he played so much towards the end of the season and provides Tottenham with excellent cover. I'd take any of the Spurs players who may be available, what about Livermore? Assou Akato? Dafoe would be a perfect poacher to partner with Berbatov.
posted by Caliyank (Guest) - Tuesday 18th June 2013, 9:28 PM

Totally agree, I think he would shine the way Danny Murphy did. Problem is that Jol wants Dutch, German players to build his squad around, think he has grown tired of English/established premiership types ... can't blame him on that really ...
