Im beginning to warm to MJ as an individual ,a family man who could be a very good manager with the right backing. I hope he stays but he must be very very wary however of the club management who have a history going right back to the days of Trinder in the 60s of getting rid of their best players. The management were always notorious for knowing the price of every player but the value of none. Hopefully they will prove me wrong next season.

He has announced today that he isn't going anywhere and that out of the three players linked with fulham ( sako, skeltenburg, amorebieta) one of them is a definite deal which he will confirm in a weeks time! Who do we think it is? I personally think its amorebieta
Replies
I'd guess at Skeltenburg as it would explain why the club hasn't agreed a new contract with Schwarzer.

When you look back though, with the exception of a few we have usually had the best form and years out of the players we sell.

JB - If they didn't have Skeltenburg lined up then you'd guess they'd have made a bigger effort to get Schwarzer to sign by now? I don't see us letting our goalie leave on a free without having a player lined up to come in. I'd be quite happy to see all three of those players you listed to come in, we really need to add some quality to the squad.

What is it with all this 'I've been a supporter for 40 years and I've had enough stuff'?
Anyone who has followed the club for any length of time will know that it can (& probably will) get a LOT worse.
Unless that is you were one of the 15 odd thousand 'life long' supporters who took a sabbatical for the best part of a decade between the '80s & 90's (for which I dont blame you for - I was there and it was properly sh*t)

Face it - being miserable is virtually part of the DNA of being a Fulham supporter so you are not fooling anyone (with or without the crappy end to the season)

Take the summer off, get some sunshine, recharge the batteries, forget waistlines, Senderos and all the other the niggly obsessions and come back next season ready for another epic struggle

It's a bit like Darwin we have defined species: 1. I have been a fan since the Boar war and am giving up - there are better opportunities at the OAP Club. 2. I hate the manager (whoever). Except Roy (forgetting he walked out in July and fucked us - in the end he wasn't a nice guy ( all managers are the same)). 3. Will MAF invest (assumes he is down already - as opposed to quids in). If not then no manager could do better. 4. Lets have whoever has won a few games recently ie Collins, Poyet, etc. 5. Our players don't try, are to old, are crap. Well Rangers would swap. 6. I love what FFC is. I don't care about things I can't change and I will enjoy the crack (not Irish spelling I know). Alright I ran out of steam but one finger on an iPad isn't easy. Just stop moaning, post about great kids in youth team as someone just has and shout its too good to be true So it's not princess di but its your princess - love it or to be honest bugger off as the anti should post somewhere else.k

So, Chelsea got the luck in the final and Rafa has done well for them, even though he is on the tubby side. Harry Redknapp couldn't save QPR. Perhaps if he had been a bit slimmer he would have had a bit more luck. And obviously David Moyes got the United job because he is on the slimmer side. Or maybe only fatheads think a manager's waistline any bearing on results.

Ah well, Chelsea win the Europa cup thereby reminding me how sad I was 3 years ago and in 1975 and, after the season we've just had, the simple and undeniable truth; we're not good enough. Not good enough to compete for a trophy, not good enough to win more than 3 games away and probably next season - not good enough to remain in the Prem. Frankly after 40 odd years of this, I've had enough.
Replies
I agree with you Jim.At the age of 66 I've decided not to renew my ticket for next season.I have been going to the Cottage since 1956 when my dear old Dad took me for the first time. Its the same club that I worshipped as a kid but something is different there now.I can't put my finger on it but things have changed, maybe its football in general that's changed or is it me just getting old. This squad of players we've got should be ashamed of themselves this season. We talk a lot these days of playing with passion and pride when turning out for your club but this lot have none of that. Why should I pay good money to watch a team that on the whole look as though they couldn't care less?I don't mind supporting a team that lose a lot more games than they win,God knows we've all got used to that over the years, but to watch a team that has no guts is hard to take.Old players like Haynes,Langley,Maurice Cook,Bobby Robson,Beddy Jezzard to name but a few must be turning in their graves at this lot.I said a few months ago that we were in danger of going down,I could see it a mile off.I know now how QPR fans must feel about their players,we were lucky we got away with it.But something big has got to happen over the summer or we will be gone next time.New manager? That would do for a start.Poyet sounds good to me.He's done ok with Brighton so far and I think he's got a bit of a spark in him which we're going to need. Will Mo spend some money or has he lost his spark?I'll tell you something though,if we keep this lot for next season we've no chance.
posted by Mick (Guest) - Wednesday 15th May 2013, 11:05 PM

Mick, you should send this message to someone at the club. I am sure you will not be the only one not to renew and unless you tell them they will not understand the reasons. Try the Chief Executive Alistair MacIntosh, apparently he and Martin Jol are not the best of friends... Either way, the club should know your decision and the reasons behind it. That goes for anyone who is considering the same.

Sad to see you go but if you wanted success you should have gone years ago. This is a small club and without Mo a championship one like Charlton, Palace. So much unrealistic stuff posted on this site.

I fully understand where Mick's coming from and it's sad one of our long term supporters has taken such a decision. It's not much to ask for the team to play with more passion and desire. I don't expect the team to win every match, but I do expect them to compete and not rollover.

Unlike our teams of the early 00's, 90's and earlier, they have lost their identity, the lack of British players may be the cause, an ineffective playing captain unable to gel the players is another and of cause a weak manager who's undecided how and who to play and most of all a very poor squad of players.

For me I have renewed my season ticket. Since returning to the Cottage I've made friends amongst those who sit around me and I enjoy the crack with them and I would miss this if I didn't renew.

Lets all hope the team performs better in the coming season. COYW

Sorry Phil, but I reckon it's your post which is unrealistic.
Do you want a club that spends its time in the bottom half, concerned about relegation every match, looking at results for teams that have done worse than us? And rarely having the diversion of a decent cup run.
Similar clubs like Fulham do offer better entertainment, more commitment and more success. Take Swansea for example.
Fans ARE entitled to see commitment and in very match.
The difference between the Fulham team now and the Fulham we grew up with, is the absence of home grown players.
Even your average imports are expensive, short term, and don't give shit about the club.
I thought the FA was going to restrict the number of foreigners in the squad. It looks like Fulham are restricting the number of English players.

Mick I could not agree with you more wholeheartedly.
I'm nudging 70 years and like you remember the old days , good and bad , when players played with real passion and I think were proud to take the field on behalf of themseves , the fans and club.
This lot are a load of lazy , overpaid , self-interested time servers. They , in the main , have loyalty to themselves and nothing and nobody else . Performances over the past few weeks have been a disgrace and everyone associated with putting these teams out should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for taking their wages under false pretences.
I like you will not , after many many years be renewing my season ticket , nor will my son and a number of other regulars we know.
These people have to wake and remember football is entertainment and exists not for the fans but because of them.......no fans contributing their pennies no team.
Jol is the root cause of our problems and until MAF does something about getting rid of him fans will start to vote with their feet and his asset will continue to lose value .
Ability questionable but you can't fault the commitment and passion of the likes of ; Hill, Langley , Cook , Keetch etc.etc.
We are what we are a lower mid-table team realize that be proud and lets have some football , win or lose , we can be proud of .Amen.

Phil,I can understand your reply,I used to be like you.I used to wear my Fulham Blinkers and not see the wood for the trees.I used to support Fulham through thick and thin, but in the past the players I have supported didnt take the piss out of their fans like this lot are doing every week.If you haven't seen the lack of pride, passion and the will to do their best by this team since xmas then you don't know much about the the REAL heart and soul of Fulham Football Club. Also I didn't say I wasn't renewing my season ticket because of a lack of success, read it again and you'll see why.I didn't start supporting Fulham because they were successful,I could have gone elsewhere for that. I think you're right Willie about the foreign players, especially the on loan players. How can you get the pride of playing for your club if your only there for a few months.Loan players used to be used to get you out of a sticky situation on a short term deal, not to be used constantly to form a large part of your squad.
posted by Mick (Guest) - Thursday 16th May 2013, 10:59 AM

I think that if you compare Karagounis and Riise you can see the difference. Kara is a short termer but you would think he was born on Stevenage Road, Riise, on the other hand, is saluting his old club on the bloody pitch, during the game in a white shirt. There are good pros out there, but this bunch just arent them. Look at Wigan, would our boys have dug deep like that ? I doubt it ...

Cottage has a capacity of 25700 and gets that every home league game. If all you guys drop your season tickets and don't go, it will still get 25700. And when, next season or the one after, we are pushing for 7th or 8th spot or looking good in a cup, you'll be watching Brentford or Kingstonian.

Isn't it great being a real, life long supporter.

Mick and Willie My point is stop complaining about things you can't control. Enjoy the ride, the good and the bad and be a sportsman. It's about taking part. There no blinkers on me FFC could do better and worse but it's my day put and I would to discuss he team and especially the kids who some of you seem to know a lot about which is of interest. The negative views are an irrelevance you won't change a thing except your stress levels. Peace and Love

Al,if we get relegated next season half of that 25,700 will disappear, mark my words.Fulham have got about 15,000 strong fans, the rest are the prawn sandwich variety who will be off as soon as we drop.By the way I've been to 31 Fulham games home and away this season, how many have you been to? Have really enjoyed the exchanges from everyone on this post.It seems to have got people's juices flowing one way or another. But I think it's fair to say that not everyone on this forum thinks that everthings rosy in the Craven Cottage garden.

Now we are officially safe with only an away game at Swansea left to play why don't we put few of our youth players in the starting 11 got nothing to lose and will give them a taste of premiership football to keep them motivated. Would be nice to see woodrow, dembele, grimmer and mesca etc given a chance. They all have had another successful year why not reward them. Never know a couple of them might thrive in the first team.

Things are not that bad. Poor ending and I think Mr Jol has to take a good deal of responsibility for that. Too many loan players that don't really care and too many older players. Kara was good in his time, he shows passion and can still do it in patches but he shouldn't be a starter. It infuriates me to see so many players jogging back when we lose the ball. Our players are not as good as those of Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool but there is absolutely no reason why they can't put in as much effort. And a number of them just don't. Jol has been criticized in the past for producing unfit teams. Is that one of the problems here. Another thing that infuriates me is the pathetic effort we put in in the cup competitions. It's not just the big clubs that get to finals or even win them. Having said that, anyone who has supported the club over 20, 30 or 40 years knows things have been very much worse.

Probably not, Fortress but he would have been chosing the players to bring in. Makes a difference.
Apparently Fulham could have had Michu or Rhodes but they weren't good enough or the right price. Oh, and they didn't play the Dutch way.
Regarding the Dutch way, their best players play abroad and play the style of their adopted countries.
And how often do you see a Dutch side closing in on one of the European Cups?

You folks can bitch all you like but for a club with our resources then prem safety is the minimum target and anything else is a bonus

The loss of Dempsey, Dembele, Murphy and then Diarra was going to cause us a big problem that big name January panic buys would not fix

There have also been some success stories: Reither has been outstanding; Dejagah and Enoh have been bloodied and show excellent promise for next season; Karagounis has pit in a shift and Urby has proved a useful loanee

Clearly there are plans to bring in new players and hopefully continue the rebuilding

Whilst it is cathertic to have a moan - the simple fact is we got 40 points, we are safe and there is another season in the prem to look forward to
